Les caractères 91, gb (fig. 3) sont portés, à raison de deux à la fois, par les longs bras h3 de leviers la à bras inégaux 1ï2 h3;
les leviers h pivotent sur un axe h6, sont maintenus à leur position de repos par des ressorts la' et présentent chacun dans leur bras court h,2 une coulisse h\\ dans laquelle passe une cheville i' solidaire d'une barre i de section transversale aplatie, faite tout entière en matière magnétique (en acier ou en fer par exemple) et partiellement logée dans un solénoïde k (voir aussi la fig. 1);
si bien que le ressort q fait avancer le chariot b d'une dent de la crémaillère L1; cet avancement est limité à une (.lent grâce ait fait. que la branche i= vient alors en prise avec b=; quand le cou rant cesse de passer;
le ressort o rappelle le noyau m hors dit solénoïde et fait basculer le cliquet en sens inverse dit mouvement pré cédent de celui-ci;
Le pôle négatif de la source d'électricité alimentant la machine et représentée ici par une batterie t<B>(fi-.</B> 2) est relié à un conduc teur 2! avec lequel sont en relation des plots v (fig. 3) avec lesquels les touches ?r ;
Electric typewriter. The object of the invention is an electric typewriter.
It differs from other known typewriters in that the characters are carried by levers connected to mobile cores of solenoids serving to launch them on the surface on which to write.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the machine, given by way of example.
Fig. 1 is a schematic plan; The <B> fi-. </B> 2 is the electrical connection diagram Le, fig. 3 to 5 are detail views. This embodiment comprises titi base a (fig. 1) at the rear part of which is the carriage b moving transversely with respect to it and supporting in bearings b 'the journals of a roller c on which is placed the paper to write on.
In front of the roller c is placed titi ink ribbon d unwinding from cylinder n, and winding on titi cylinder f.
Characters 91, gb (fig. 3) are carried, two at a time, by the long arms h3 of levers 1a with unequal arms 12h3;
the levers h pivot on an axis h6, are held in their rest position by springs la 'and each have in their short arm h, 2 a slide h \\ in which passes an ankle i' integral with a bar i of flattened cross section, made entirely of magnetic material (steel or iron for example) and partially housed in a solenoid k (see also fig. 1);
this has a similar free internal section, serves as a guide for the bar i and is made up of a thin titi tube of non-magnetic material, eg brass, on which. is coiled titi conductive wire. If, under these conditions, one makes Him pass current. in the conductor of k; the bar <I> a </I> is attracted by the latter, penetrates deeper inside 1c and consequently forces the lever la to apply one of its two characters ga gb on the paper.
The various solenoids k, only three of which are shown in fig. 1, are arranged horizontally in the arc of a circle on an insulating plate a 'in the notches of which they are housed and which is carried by the base a; the MI axis common to all the viers h. also has the shape of an arc of a circle in such a way that the characters <B> 91 </B> 9l 'of the corresponding levers 7t come tones significantly strike the paper even in right of space.
<B> Thanks </B> to Him mechanism known and not presented, the roller r, if necessary, one is lowered according to that of the two characters <B> f / - '</B> fj "<B> of < / B> each lever h which must come into action.
This inecaiiism comprises a solenoid that can be excited by lowering <B> (the </B> some of the keys of the inaciiine: the solenoid is provided with a core acting on the roller c to raise it.
If this solenoid binds receives no current. the roller is in its lower position and it is the character f / 1, located outside the actuated lever h that prints; when a current passes through said solenoid, the roller is lifted and the internal character of the lever (t iois in movement is inai, qtie on the paper.
The movement of the carriage b from right to left as you write is obtained by means of a spring q whose action is controlled by a rack b = (fig. 5)
with wolf teeth with which this carriage b is fitted and on which two branches can act t = a pawl d <I> with </I> three branches the 12 13, pivoted in the: the third branch; d3, is linked, on the one hand, to a spring o, on the other hand.
to a drowned ni, in magnetic matter, of solenoid star n. The latter, with a flattened cross section, comprises a non-magnetic militia tube. in brass for example, firing which is wound titi conductor and which serves as guide has drowned nt,
having a corresponding cross section. Each time the current is started in the conductor, the core w is drawn deeper into the said solenoid, causes it to switch, clicks and l in the opposite direction to that of the so called clockwise movement, despite the resistance of the spring o,
so that the spring q causes the carriage b to advance by one tooth of the rack L1; this advancement is limited to a (. slow grace has caused. that the branch i = then engages with b =; when the current ceases to flow;
the spring o recalls the core m away from said solenoid and causes the pawl to swing in the opposite direction, said previous movement thereof;
the branch hooks it up with the tooth following the one with which it was previously engaged and the branch l = moves away from the rack b9. The return of the carriage b from left to right at the end of the line takes place by hand, which at the same time strains the spring q.
The negative pole of the source of electricity supplying the machine and represented here by a battery t <B> (fi-. </B> 2) is connected to a conductor 2! with which are the contacts v (fig. 3) with which the keys? r;
c (see also <B> fi-. </B> 1) controlling the characters and the advancement of the carriage b can come into contact. The keys? R are related by conductors J with one of the ends of the winding 7c1 of the corresponding solenoids,
the other end of which is connected by its conductor z to its common conductor 1 in communication with one of the ends of the solenoid ù. The other end of this last winding te 'is connected by iiii conductor 2, a resi, taiice of settclgc 3,
a conductor 4 ail positive pole of the battery t. As for the a- key, it is connected by conductors 5; 13 and (lite resistance 7; whose value is equal to them <i that (the each of the windings 1i ', to the conductor 1.
The pads r and the keys zv <<@ can be, for example, in charcoal or in silver.
The operation of this form of execution is as follows: iii when one of the roofs 2c is lowered, the following circuit is closed:
+ Pole of battery t, conductor 4, resistor 3, conductor 2, winding fa ', conductor 1, one of the conductors z, winding k1 of the solenoid k corresponding to the key fa considered, conductor J, key 1v, pad v corresponding, conductor and, pole of battery i.
Said done (the excitation of the solenoid) z, the pawl l allows the spring <I> q </I> (to advance the carriage b by one tooth of the rack L = to the left, and that before that one of the characters @ft rl "of the considered lever has reached the paper.
The corresponding solenoid 1 is energized and attracts either core 2, which oscillates the lever h to apply one of the characters r / 9 <B> "</B> of it on the paper, the roller e is moving by the inan operation of the button to the desired vertical position.
The same operations reconstitute when we act on another key tc.
If you want to move the carriage in the direction of Uche 1n without writing one or more letters, you lower the key: I !, thus closing only the solenoid circuit ii.
(thanks to the fact due to the application of the characters on the roller takes place by means of electricity, and not by manual force, one can simultaneously obtain, if one wishes it, a larger shadow of copies, it suffices to choose in a suitable way the then maximum sauce of the solenoids, thus due to the ratios between the arms of the levers 1, and to adjust judiciously by means of the resistor 3 the intensity of the current flowing in these solenoids.
The electric control is advantageously applied here, thanks to the shape given to these solenoids and allowing them to be placed in a small space, one by one.
The movement of the carriage from right to left can also take place electrically instead of being done by hand. Levers can have a single character or three; in the second case, two solenoids are used for the lifting of the eliariot, fitted with cores before different strokes and producing two lifting of different height:
the cores i can act on the character-carrying levers via an auxiliary mechanical transmission comprising, for example, one or more levers. The machine can be powered by a power source other than a battery. <B> ci) </B> particular by an alternating current source.
The solenoids operating the character carrier levers may have a front cross section other than flattened shape.
