Electrically operated typewriter. The present invention relates to an electrically operated typewriter.
The appended drawing represents schematically and, by way of example, an embodiment of this machine.
On a support 1 in non-magnetic material moves the carriage 2 carrying the roller 3. The characters 9 are fixed to the ends of the character-carrying bars 4 which are guided in two combs 6 and 7.
A small shaft 13 movable along its axis passes through each character bar. One end of this small shaft carries an armature 14, the other a coil spring 12. When the electromagnet 15 is energized, the armature 14 is attracted and is placed in front of a part 8. This is integral with the cores 19 of a double electromagnet 22 so that it moves against the action of a boiled spring 23 on a guide rod 21 when the circuit of the electro - magnet is closed.
A ratchet 30 connected to the carriage by means of a rack or a chain is actuated by a pawl 28 fixed to the lever 29. The latter is set in motion by the core 26 of an electromagnet 25. A pawl 32 prevents the ratchet from turning backwards under the effect of a tensioner fixed to the carriage (not shown in the drawing).
To produce the automatic return of the cart at any time, the pawls 28 and 32 can be triggered by an electromagnet 33 acting by its core 35 on the lever 34.
The stroke of the two cores 26 and 35 is adjustable by means of screws 27 which serve at the same time to tension the springs 36 intended to return the cores 26 and 35 to their rest position.
Fig. 5 of the drawing represents schematically the course of the current in the machine.
The electric current passes through the coil 25 for the advance of the carriage 2 then through the coil 22 and from there by a common wire, to the small coils 15. Each of these small coils 15 is connected, on the other hand, to a 10 'key on the keypad of the machine which can come into contact with the common wire 37 through which the current returns to the source. A bypass 38 with a key 11 can feed the coil 33 which produces the automatic return of the carriage 2.
The operation of the machine is as follows: By pressing any key 10 on the keyboard, the circuit of the corresponding coil 15, and of the coils of the electros 22, and 25 is closed. The frame 14 is attracted and is placed vis-à-vis the arm 8 of the frame 19. The latter moves under the attraction exerted by the. spool 22 and the corresponding cardholder bar is driven and, guided by the combs G and 7, strikes at 5 on the roller 3.
