Technisches Gebiet

Technical field
The present invention relates to the field of packaging. It relates to methods for producing a cup-shaped combination packaging container, which comprises an inner cup-shaped plastic inner part that tapers downwards and a fitted, jacket-like outer part that surrounds the outer plastic part. It also relates to an inner plastic part for such a method.
Combination packaging containers of the type mentioned are known from earlier patents of the applicant, EP-B1-0 102 522 or EP-B1-0 408 515, the disclosure of which is expressly intended to be part of the present application.
State of the art
Stackable combination packaging containers, in which a cup-shaped plastic inner part, usually deep-drawn from a film, is made from an outer part made of another material, e.g. Paper, cardboard material or another plastic, coated, have various advantages: On the one hand, the container can be optimally adapted to the respective application by using two different materials. For example, if the contents of the package are frozen or hot, it is advantageous to use an outer part made of a material that has a thermally insulating effect. On the other hand, the use of a separate outer part has the advantage that the outer part can be printed separately from the container with pictures, text, advertising, instructions for use or the like, which enables a significantly better print quality.
Furthermore, the separation of the container into individual fractions has significant advantages in waste disposal (recycling). Finally, the two-layer construction of the container enables increased mechanical strength, which is particularly advantageous when transporting in multi-layer containers.
These and other advantages have led to the fact that combination packaging containers as yoghurt, ice cream or margarine cups or in other comparable applications are becoming increasingly widespread.
In the manufacture of the previously known combination packaging containers, the jacket-like, usually printed outer part is first produced. In the case of a jacket made of cardboard material, a corresponding blank is wrapped around a mandrel and the side edges are glued together in an overlapping manner. The outer part is then placed in the deep-drawing mold of a plastic deep-drawing device. The plastic inner part is then deep-drawn into the outer part, as described in EP-B1-0 102 522, already mentioned. In this way, the deep-drawn plastic inner part connects to the outer part to form the finished combination packaging container.
Suitable additional configurations of the outer part such as a fold over the lower edge (12 in Fig. 1 of EP-B1-0 102 522) or an elevation in the form of a circumferential groove (16 in Fig. 1 of EP-B1-0 102 522) ensure that the positive connection is stable and durable and does not require gluing between the inner and outer part. In order to facilitate later separation of the two parts, additional separating elements such as the predetermined separating strip described in EP-B1-0 408 515 can be provided in the outer part.
The known manufacturing process for combination packaging containers described above has, although it has proven itself in practice, also has some disadvantages: the finished container is the finished container due to the direct positive connection between the plastic inner part and the printed outer part, which is matched to the later container content set for later use. If, for example, a manufacturer of different yogurt products needs to keep the differently printed yoghurt cups required for continuous production in stock, this requires a considerable amount of space because the fully formed cups must be stored separately according to type. If the cups are produced at a different location and transported to the filling location, the transport costs also increase.
Another major disadvantage of the known method lies in the complexity of the machines used. Instead of a simple deep-drawing device, in which the cup-shaped container is made from a film by deep-drawing, specially-made, expensive and complicated machine sets are required for the known method, which form and glue the outer parts from printed blanks in a first station, over the finished outer parts insert a transfer station precisely into the special deep-drawing molds of a special deep-drawing device, and finally the deep-drawing device deep-draws the plastic inner parts into the outer parts.
Another disadvantage of the known method is the achievable axial crush resistance of the finished container. The container usually has - as can be seen in FIG. 1 of EP-B1-0 408 515 - a circumferential shoulder serving as a support shoulder to improve the stackability (3 in FIG. 1 of EP-B1-0 408 515). The paragraph is due to the manufacturing process in the outer part as well as in the molded plastic inner part. The shoulder results in a weakening of the container wall compared to axial, i.e. compressive forces acting perpendicular to the bottom of the container because the container wall tends to buckle in the area of the shoulder.
Such a weakening of the container with respect to axial compression forces is particularly undesirable if the filled and closed containers are to be stacked directly on top of one another in several layers on a pallet or the like.
Presentation of the invention
The object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a combination packaging container consisting of a plastic inner part and a jacket-like outer part, which avoids the aforementioned disadvantages and simplifies the production devices, reduces the transport and storage effort for the finished containers, and improves Stiffness of the container in the axial direction allows, and specify a plastic inner part suitable for the method.
The object is achieved in a method of the type mentioned at the outset by pushing the jacket-like outer part over the fully formed, cup-shaped plastic inner part and then fixing it to the cup-shaped plastic inner part. The essence of the invention consists in producing or molding the outer part and the inner plastic part separately from one another and then connecting the two parts to one another by pushing the outer part over the inner part and fixing it to the inner part. In this way, it is possible to use simple deep-drawing devices to produce non-specific, cup-shaped plastic inner parts, which are then connected to the correspondingly printed or otherwise assembled outer parts to form the finished combination container.
This increases flexibility in production and significantly simplifies storage and transport. At the same time, there is the possibility that the plastic inner parts are manufactured directly at the bottler, the container in-line on simplified machines and then connected to the specific outer parts in stock.
In principle, it is conceivable to glue the outer and inner parts together to form the combination container. However, this would make the later separation of the two parts more difficult. In addition, gluing stations would be required in which the gluing process is carried out. According to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, a cup-shaped plastic inner part is therefore used, which comprises latching means into which the jacket-like outer part releasably latches for fixing to the cup-shaped plastic inner part.
This has the advantage that the finished combination container can be obtained by simply plugging the two parts into one another, and that the outer part can later be easily separated from the inner part, e.g. to read the printed inside of the outer part or to separate the different types of material from the container for separate disposal or reprocessing.
A preferred further development of this embodiment is characterized in that the latching means comprise a circumferential shoulder arranged in the bottom region of the cup-shaped plastic inner part, the outside diameter of which is larger than the inside diameter of the lower edge of the jacket-like outer part, that the jacket-like outer part with its when pushed over the cup-shaped plastic inner part The lower edge is pushed so far over the circumferential shoulder that it engages behind the shoulder, that the latching means continue to comprise an upper, outwardly projecting edge on the cup-shaped plastic inner part, and that the jacket-like outer part with its upper edge of is pushed over the cup-shaped plastic inner part by hits the edge at the bottom and is held between the edge and the circumferential shoulder after it has snapped into place.
A particularly simple fixation of the outer part is achieved in this way. At the same time, the jacket-like outer part can absorb any axial compression forces applied to the container without being weakened.
The plastic inner part according to the invention is characterized in that it is cup-shaped and tapers downwards, and that snap-in means are provided on the plastic inner part, in which the jacket-like outer part can be detachably latched for fixing to the cup-shaped plastic inner part.
A preferred embodiment is characterized in that the latching means comprise a circumferential shoulder arranged in the bottom region of the plastic inner part, the outside diameter of which is larger than the diameter of the lower edge of the jacket-like outer part, and in that the latching means furthermore have an upper, outwardly projecting edge on the cup-shaped plastic inner part, in particular in the form of a sealing flange, against which edge the jacket-like outer part abuts with its upper edge when pushed over the cup-shaped plastic inner part.
In a particularly preferred development of this embodiment, a circumferential, inwardly projecting shoulder is provided in order to improve the stackability in the base region of the cup-shaped plastic inner parts. The circumferential shoulder forms the upper limit of a circumferential rear pull, which is bounded at the bottom by the circumferential shoulder. At the same time, the introduction of compressive forces into the jacket-like outer part is facilitated by the rear pull.
Further embodiments result from the dependent claims.

Ways of Carrying Out the Invention
1 shows a partially sectioned illustration of a preferred exemplary embodiment of a plastic inner part according to the invention, as is suitable for the method according to the invention. The half of the figure to the left of the dash-dotted center line shows the longitudinal section, the right half of the figure shows an uncut side view. The cup-shaped plastic inner part 1 is simply conical in the example shown with a diameter tapering towards the bottom 9. It is expressly pointed out that the simple conical cup is only one embodiment and that of course other stackable shapes such as e.g. four, six or otherwise polygonal or mixed square-round shapes are conceivable.
In the example shown, the conical wall 2 of the cup-shaped plastic inner part 1 is delimited at the upper edge by a sealing flange 3, by means of which the cup can be closed. This can be done, for example, by sealing with an aluminum foil. However, other edge shapes are also conceivable, such as those shown in EP-B1-0 102 522 in the left half of FIG. 1. The wall 2 of the cup is, starting from the upper edge or sealing flange 3, down to the bottom area without a shoulder. A circumferential rear extension 5 is provided only directly in the floor area, which is delimited at the top by an inwardly projecting circumferential shoulder 4, the function of which will be explained in more detail later in connection with FIGS. 4 and 5.
Towards the bottom 9, the rear pull 5 is delimited by an outwardly projecting, circumferential shoulder 8 which merges directly into the bottom 9 and forms an annular bead. The rear section 5 itself is divided into two rear section 6 and 7, of which the upper rear section 6 is substantially cylindrical, and the lower rear section 7 is designed to open slightly towards the floor.
This design of the base area has several essential advantages: on the one hand, paragraph 4 provides a support shoulder that enables the cups to be stacked one inside the other. On the other hand, a "spring base" is realized with the rear pull 5, i.e. the bottom 9 can move resiliently in the axial direction when axial pressure forces occur. This property is important for the rigidity of the combination container, which will be discussed in more detail below. Finally, the geometry of the backing allows the plastic inner part 1 to be deep-drawn even without the use of elaborate sliding molds if a plastic material with increased shrinkage behavior, e.g.
Polypropylene (PP) is used because the deep-drawn cup can be easily removed from a solid deep-drawing mold despite the backing 5 due to the shrinkage.
The bottom 9 of the plastic inner part 1 can be designed differently. With regard to the possibilities, reference is made here to EP-B1-0 102 522. In the present example in FIG. 1, the base 9 has an outer contact surface 11 which surrounds a central retracted base part 10 in a ring shape.
According to the method according to the invention, a plastic inner part 1 of the type shown in FIG. 1 is first produced by deep drawing from a plastic film or another suitable manufacturing process. The finished cup is then connected to a jacket-like outer part 12, as is exemplarily shown in FIG. 2, to form a combination packaging container by pushing the outer part 12 over the cup-shaped plastic inner part 1 from below and fixing it to the inner part.
This has the particular advantage that only the outer parts that are matched to the product to be packaged and are printed specifically for the product, which can be folded easily and stored in a space-saving manner, have to be kept in stock, while the (non-specific) plastic inner parts can be delivered directly to the bottler or also as required produced elsewhere on simple deep-drawing devices and then combined with the outer part.
The jacket-like outer part 12 can consist of different materials and can be produced in different ways. With regard to the possibilities, reference is made to EP-B1-0 102 522 and EP-BI-0 408 515. If the outer part 12 - which is often the case - is produced from a blank from the outside and / or inside of printed cardboard material, the blank is wound in the form of a jacket on a mandrel and the side edges are then glued to one another in an overlap area 13. Of course, a predetermined separating strip with grip tabs and corresponding perforation lines can also be provided on the outer part 12 for better separation of the plastic inner part 1, as is described in EP-B1-0 408 515.
The jacket-like outer part 12 is preferably fixed on the cup-shaped plastic inner part 1 by a releasable latching. The upper edge or the sealing flange 3 and the circumferential shoulder 8 with the overlay 5 lying above function as a latching means on the plastic inner part 1. The outer diameter of the shoulder 8 is (slightly) larger than the inner diameter of the lower edge 15. The height of the outer part 12 in the axial direction Direction is slightly less than the (axial) distance between the underside of the sealing flange 3 and the shoulder 8.
To form the combination packaging container 16 or 19 minutes, as shown in FIG. 3 and shown in an enlarged section in FIG. 5, the jacket-like outer part 12 according to FIG. 2 is inserted over the plastic inner part 1 according to FIG. 1 pushed until the top edge 14 abuts the underside of the sealing flange 3. At the same time, the lower edge 15 of the outer part 12 slides over the shoulder 8, which yields resiliently due to the material and geometry and reduces its outer diameter. Simultaneously with the abutting of the upper edge 14 on the sealing flange, the lower edge 15 has slid over the shoulder 8 and released it again, so that the shoulder 8 springs back into its starting position. The jacket-like outer part 12 is releasably fixed between the sealing flange 3 and the shoulder 8 on the plastic inner part 1.
At the same time, the upper edge 14 is protected by the sealing flange 3 and the lower edge 15 by the shoulder 8. This is advantageous if, for example, a jacket-like outer part 12 made of moisture-sensitive cardboard material is to be used. It is also possible to provide a fold to protect the edges, as is known from EP-B1-0 102 522. Depending on the design of the jacket-like outer part 12 in comparison to the cup-shaped plastic inner part 1, a more or less tight fit of the outer part 12 on the inner part can be achieved.
As can be seen from FIG. 2, the outer part 12 has a largely smooth outer surface without debilitating shoulders or the like. For this reason, the outer part 12 is able to absorb relatively large axial pressure forces. Accordingly, the outer part 12 in the finished combination packaging container 16 can absorb axial compressive forces which act on the base 9 and the sealing flange 3 of the plastic inner part. The "spring base" already mentioned above plays an important role here. If axial pressure is applied to the plastic inner part 1 of the combination packaging container 16, the base 9 moves resiliently in the direction of the sealing flange 3 until the shoulder 8 presses on the lower edge 15 of the jacket-shaped outer part 12.
If the outer part 12 abuts the sealing flange 3 at the same time with its upper edge 14, the axial pressure is largely introduced into the jacket-shaped outer part 12 and collected there. In this way, the rigidity of the combination packaging container 16 is significantly increased compared to the previously known containers, so that the filled containers can be stacked on top of one another in several layers without additional aids.
The function of the circumferential paragraph 4 when stacking several combination packaging containers 16, 16 min is clear from FIGS. 4 and 5. The parts of the second combination packaging container 16 min are provided with the same reference numerals - but in a deleted form - as the corresponding parts of the first combination packaging container 16. When stacking the containers 16 and 16 min, the upper second container 16 min is supported, which also includes a jacket-like outer part 12 min, a cup-like plastic inner part 1 min, rear pull-in sections 6 min, 7 min, a shoulder 8 min, a footprint 11 min, a shoulder 4 min and a retracted base part 10 min, with its footprint 11 min on the Paragraph 4 of the first container 16.
The inwardly projecting heel 4 or 4 min ensures that an outer part 12 or 12 min with a smooth outer surface can be used. The stack height, i.e. the increase in height due to the stacking of two containers 16, 16 min depends largely on the height of the rear pull 5. If the height of the rear pull 5 and thus also the stack height is increased, the inside diameter increases at paragraph 4, 4 minutes. This makes it possible to enlarge the outside diameter of the shoulder 8, 8 min. The shoulder 8, 8 min then protrudes further over the lower edge 15 of the snap-in outer part 12, 12 min, as a result of which the latching function and protection of the lower edge 15 can be improved.
In principle, all materials and dimensions that have already been described in the documents EP-B1-0 102 522 and EP-B1-0 408 515 can be used for the present combination packaging container. It is particularly preferred to produce the plastic inner part by deep drawing from a PP film for 1 or 1 min, and to use blanks of printed cardboard material with or without predetermined separation strips for the outer part for 12 or 12 min.
If the outer part is made from a plastic for 12 or 12 minutes, it is advantageous for simplified processing to use the same material as for the plastic inner part 1, 1 min.
