Along a pipeline, and in particular in places where it is bent or must be welded to another pipe, it is necessary to provide inspection chambers allowing an inspection of the pipeline and, if necessary, its cleaning or its linkage .
There are currently such inspection chambers made of prefabricated reinforced concrete elements. These rooms are expensive, heavy and therefore require significant lifting equipment on site.
To overcome these drawbacks, hard PVC inspection chambers have been proposed which have the advantage of being light and of being able to be installed easily. However, these light inspection chambers have the drawback of requiring, in addition to a raft on which they rest, a coating of light concrete, since their resistance is not sufficient to withstand the pressure of the earth. This greatly increases the duration of a site, the backfilling can only be carried out after the setting of the protective concrete. In addition, the placement of this concrete requires machinery on site and sometimes the creation of large forms.
The present invention relates to an inspection chamber for pipes tending to obviate the drawbacks of existing chambers. Its purpose is to create a low-weight inspection chamber that can be put in place without a lifting device and that nevertheless has sufficient strength so that it is not necessary to surround it with a layer of concrete of protection before backfilling the excavation.
The inspection chamber for pipes according to the invention is distinguished by the fact that it comprises a composite wall formed by a sealed internal wall made of thermoplastic material covered with a layer of expanded plastic material.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example the axial section of an execution of an inspection chamber according to the invention.
The inspection chamber illustrated in section in the drawing rests on a concrete slab 1 made at the bottom of an excavation. This inspection chamber comprises a lower element 2, provided with a main channel 3 and secondary channels 4, of generally cylindrical shape comprising a sealed internal wall 5 made of thermoplastic material, for example PVC + PE, hard PVC or polyethylene . This internal wall 5 is covered with a mass or layer of expanded plastic material 6, for example polyurethane foam. Preferably, this foam has closed cells so that they do not fill with water over time.
In this way, a light inspection chamber element has been produced, which can therefore be handled without a lifting device, and which nevertheless has great rigidity and great resistance due to its polyurethane foam coating. In this way, the internal wall 5 of the inspection chamber is protected from shocks during its transport and, once placed in the excavation, it can be backfilled directly against the inspection chamber without any precautions.
In the example illustrated, the inspection chamber is deep, it also comprises an intermediate element 7 and an upper element 8 which both have a sealed internal wall 9, 10 made of hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coated with a layer 11 , 12 of closed-cell polyurethane foam.
To complete the installation of the inspection chamber, it suffices to pour a concrete ring 13 around the opening 14 of the upper part 8 to seal a frame 15 receiving a cover 16 of cast iron.
The lower 2, intermediate 7 and upper 8 elements fit into each other, the shape of their ends presents a staircase formation. In order for the assembly of the three elements to be leaktight, a two-component synthetic elastomer seal, for example in Thiocol (registered trademark), is produced, which secures the elements 2, 7 and 8.
The installation of such an inspection chamber can be carried out without a lifting device since the elements 2, 7 and 8 are light, and, above all, the excavation can be backfilled without formwork and coating of the chamber, since it is strong enough due to its plastic foam coating to withstand the pressure of the soil. The installation of such an inspection room is therefore much faster and less expensive than that of existing rooms.
The illustrated inspection chamber has a circular section but, in variants, all kinds of shapes are possible: square, oval, rectangular, etc.
Likewise, the number, arrangement and dimensions of the entrances to the inspection room can be modified.
Alternatively, the inspection chamber may include a composite wall composed of an outer wall of thermoformed plastic, an inner wall also of thermoplastic and an intermediate layer of expanded plastic. This expanded plastic material is injected between the two inner and outer walls.
