The present invention relates to an auxiliary apparatus for leveling holes that are difficult to access. This device can meter month on a machine tool such as a drill for example, or meter actuated by its own drive means. The first method is to be chosen when it is easy to transport the space-saving piece on the work surface of the drill. On the other hand, the second is better suited when it is more advantageous to position the machine on the rather bulky part.
Currently, for leveling holes placed in hollows and practically inaccessible, it is necessary to have recourse to a whole series of devices involving several operations even when the machine is stationary, and this results in a waste of time. In fact, it is always necessary to start by removing the tool attached to the spindle of the machine tool in order to set up such an auxiliary device. The object of the invention is to create an arrangement in which the tool is released laterally with respect to the means for driving and controlling the spindle.
All the operations in question are therefore reduced to one, which is moreover easy to perform.
For this purpose, the apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a platform cantilevered with respect to a base, a leveling tool month at the cantilever end of the plate and means for transmission rotating the tool under the action of a drive shaft housed in the plate, in order to carry out the machining of pole holes in recessed parts of a piece.
Two embodiments and some variants of the apparatus according to the invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the drawing, including:
fig. 1 is an elevational view of a drill equipped with the first embodiment,
fig. 2 a sectional view of the first embodiment,
fig. 3 an elevational view of a second embodiment with certain details in section, and
fig. 4 is a top plan view of the second embodiment.
The apparatus shown in FIG. 1 comprises a lower support and fixing base 4 on which are mounted three columns 5 for guiding an upper element or protruding plate 10. The plate 10, adjustable in height with respect to the base 4, by more or less penetration of the columns 5, is profiled at the forefront of the tool 7, so as to have an extremely small size section and to be able to reach the narrow recessed parts. As a whole, the plate 10 has the shape of an irregular rhombus, three vertices of which are fixed to the columns 5 and the fourth of which, much further from the center than the other three, is fitted with the tool 7.
The interior of the plate 10 is large enough to house therein members for transmitting the movement of a drive shaft 8 approximately in the center of the rhombus, to a tool spindle 6, located at the very front of the plate and of which The axis is parallel to that of the drive shaft 8. Several variants are possible for the transmission means. In a first embodiment (fig. 2), the transmission is provided by a chain 14 connecting a toothed wheel 15 mounted on the drive shaft 8 to a wheel wedged on the tool-holder shaft 6.
As seen in fig. 1, the apparatus described can be put on a drill. In fig. 1, 1 indicates the column of the drill, 2 the work surface, 3 the controls of the drill. The drive shaft 8 is connected to the chuck 9 of the drill. It is the piece to be planed. In fig. 2, 12 indicate the body of the plate, 13 the housing.
We also see the bearings 16 of the spindle 6, the bearings 26 which support the plate on the shaft 8, a bearing 27 for guiding the plate on the columns 5 and the screws 28 for fixing the housing 13. The spacer ring 29 ensures the transmission of the axial movements of the shaft 8 to the plate 12, cooperating with the collar 30 of the shaft 8.
The tool-holder shaft with vertical axis 6, fitted as required with
stop elements, carries a toothed wheel calve and has a recess where the shank of the tool is housed. The drive shaft 8, also fitted with thrust bearings and carrying the drive gear 15, protrudes at the top, so that its cone-shaped profile end is coaxial with the spindle 9 of the drill to which it is coupled.
In a variant, the transmission could be obtained using a set of gears. One could also provide a small horizontal axis carrying two bevel gears at its ends, these gears being engaged in two bevel gears calls respectively on the drive shaft 8 and the tool-holder shaft 6. A belt transmission would also be possible.
Instead of being mated to spindle 9 of the drill, shaft 8 could also be connected directly to a stand-alone motor.
Figs. 3 and 4 relate to the second embodiment, which is more improved and more functional than that of FIGS. 1 and 2: the changes concern the tool holder end and the connection between the plate 10 and the base 4. According to fig. 1 and 2, the leveling tool is mounted on the lower side at the end of the table. Only the machining of the holes located below the tool is thus possible. The execution of fig. 3 has a multiple tool-holder spindle, so that this limit has disappeared. Two planing tools, an upper 17 and a lower 7 (fig. 3) are driven by the same transmission.
Of course, they must be used separately, but it is easy to understand that this execution saves the time it takes to turn part 11 over and replace it or to turn over and replace the device with the first execution.
In this second execution, the three circular columns 5 have been replaced by a single column integral with the base 20, equipped with square slideways 19, with rollers or dovetail. The plate 10 can slide, thanks to slides 18 pairs to the previous ones, along the base column, and the slides provide the desired effect of parallelism. At the rear of the platform are a damping device to reduce bending stresses and a positioning control device.
When the plate works with the lower tool, it is subjected, at the end of the spindle, to a working reaction directed upwards, causing in its turn a fitting reaction directed downwards. Despite the precision of the slides, the rear of the plate tends to move closer to the support base. This really tiny bending of the plate, which despite everything may cause machining defects, is eliminated by the damping device 22. The latter comprises a sleeve 31 inside which can move a screw 24 controlled by an external button 25. and retained in its movements by a spring 23.
The prior adjustment of the tension of the spring 23 causes an upward thrust of the rear of the plate 10 thus opposing the effect created during machining with the lower tool 7 and keeping the plate perfectly horizontal. plate 10, essential condition for successful leveling of the hole in part 11.
If necessary, the bending caused by the machining of the upper tool 17 could also be balanced: it would suffice to fit two spring devices 22 and to tension them by causing a downward thrust, or even to take advantage of N the tensile strength of each spring usable for compensation during the two machining operations. As a variant, the compensation device 22 could also be of the fluidodynamic type.
The plate also comprises, to the right of the support column, threaded cylindrical elements 21 which pass through it on either side and come into abutment on the support base, which makes it possible to adjust the vertical working stroke of the plate. once it is placed on the workpiece.
The operation of the device with regard to the first embodiment, where the device is mounted on a drill and the transmission is carried out by chain, is as follows: the device must be positioned on the work surface of the drill and fixed by means of pivots passing on either side of the base or flanges according to the conformation of the worktops. It must then be reattached to the machine tool spindle, coaxially with the drive shaft.
It then remains to position it in height by varying the distance between the plate and the lower base of the device using the plate adjustment controls, so as to ensure the necessary travel of the drill spindle by manual command. In turn, the tool spindle of the table, via the transmission, will impart the same stroke and the same rotation to the tool placed at the very front of the table. The tool will thus enter without the slightest difficulty in the pole holes in the recesses existing on the workpiece placed on the work surface and will be able to level the holes that a normal milling cutter mounted directly on the drill spindle could not. achieve.
