L'instrument représenté se compose de deux parties dont l'une 14, est constituée de deux bras 1 et 2 reliés entre eux à l'une de leurs extrémités par une traverse plane 3, la longueur 4 de cette traverse 3 étant légèrement supérieure à celle de la gueule de l'animal dans laquelle il doit être introduit, sa largeur 5 correspondant à la distance approximative entre la commissure des lèvres et le milieu des maxillaires inférieurs;
REVENDICATION
Instrument pour ouvrir et maintenir ouverte la gueule d'un animal, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend deux parties, dont l'une (14) est constituée de deux bras (1, 2) reliés à l'une de leurs extrémités par une traverse plane (3), la longueur (4) de la traverse (3) étant légèrement supérieure à la largeur de la gueule de l'animal, sa largeur (5) correspondant à la distance approximative entre la commissure des lèvres et le milieu des maxillaires inférieurs;

The object of the present invention is an instrument for opening and keeping open the mouth of an animal.
Veterinarians and ranchers find it very difficult to open the mouths of animals (eg cattle) they need to care for.
To keep the jaws open, they must wedge the animal's tongue between its teeth. This process is unsafe and the bites frequent.
The proposed instrument is of very simple construction and use. It is very efficient.
The appended drawing represents by way of example an embodiment of the instrument, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan of one of the two parts of the instrument.
Fig. 2 also shows the other part of the instrument in plan.
Fig. 3 shows in profile the instrument as it is introduced into the mouth of the animal.
Fig. 4 shows the instrument in profile when the arms are pressed against each other and blocked.
The instrument shown is made up of two parts, one of which 14 is made up of two arms 1 and 2 linked together at one of their ends by a flat cross member 3, the length 4 of this cross member 3 being slightly greater than that of the mouth of the animal into which it is to be introduced, its width 5 corresponding to the approximate distance between the commissure of the lips and the middle of the lower jaws;
The other part 15 consisting of two arms 6, 7 linked together at one of their ends by a bar 8 of the same length 4 as that of the cross member 3; at least two arms of one of the parts forming an angle 9, the two parts being attached to each other at the height of the apex of this angle (fig. 3) so that the bar 8 is superimposed on the edge 10 of the cross member 3 and that the two parts can tilt relative to each other about the axis determined by their junction points; The instrument is introduced into the mouth of the animal, the arms 1, 2, 6 and 7 being directed towards the back of the head, the cross member 3 and the bar 8 being introduced between the jaws so that the cross member 3 or in contact with the corners of the lips.
When the closed instrument is introduced into the mouth of the animal, the latter does not have any difficulty in taking in its mouth the crossbar and the bar connecting the handles of the device.
With the instrument in place, it is easy to fix it on the animal's head, by means, for example, of a rope so that it can no longer reject it. It is then sufficient to tighten the handles against each other and block the instrument.
The instrument can be manufactured using metal rods of round section. The width and spacing of the sleeves depend on the animal for which it is intended.
When the instrument is in place, the ends of the handles should reach approximately the height of the top of the animal's head. The instrument cannot therefore move transversely. Plus, the sleeves are long enough to leverage.
When the handles of the instrument are pressed against each other, ends 3 and 8 pull away, opening the mouth of the animal. These ends of the instrument are wide enough to press on either side of the jawbone.
The instrument can be held in this position (fig. 4) by means of a ring 12 sliding from the angle 9 at the end of the arms.
