CLAIMS
1. Removable hose clamp comprising a flange (1) surrounding an article to be tightened, and provided with coupling elements (2, 3) complementary to a snap-on coupling device used to join the ends of the flange and to bring them together to tighten the collar, characterized in that the coupling elements comprise a toothed tongue (5) at one end of the flange and a pair of toothed jaws (9, 10) at the other end of the flange , the jaws forming an opening (13) through which the tongue can be inserted lengthwise, from the front, into the jaws, the tongue having teeth (6,
7) on either side coming to cling to the teeth (11, 12) of the jaws so as to form a double bond retaining the inserted tongue to prevent its withdrawal in the longitudinal direction, the inserted tongue being able to be moved laterally relative to the jaws to allow it to come off and thus allow the collar to be loosened.
2. Removable clamp according to claim 1, characterized in that it is made of plastic and molded in one piece.
3. removable clamp according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the teeth are barbed.
The subject of the invention is a hose clamp for flexible pipes and other uses.
Hose clamps have been known for a very long time comprising a flange intended to surround a flexible pipe and the ends of which are each provided with a set of teeth capable of engaging with each other so as to tighten the collar on the pipe. However, these collars are prone to suddenly release when energized. It is also known, for example from US Patents Nos. 3605200 and 3925851, to provide a pair of jaws at one end of a flange and a tongue to the other, the lower jaw and the lower surface of the tongue being furnished. teeth so that, by engaging the teeth, the ends of the flange can be joined together and the flange tightened around the hose.
These collars suffer from the following drawbacks: first, the resistance of the connection between the teeth is limited; then, when they are tightened around non-circular objects, there is blit a misalignment between certain teeth which, therefore, do not engage; this leads to a weaker bond and, in the event that the teeth should start to slide, there is nothing to prevent the collar from fully opening. With the clamp according to the invention, defined in claim 1, the tongue has teeth on either side and the two jaws are both toothed.
So far, no one has thought of making a necklace with this characteristic which has the following important advantages:
1) By providing teeth on either side of the tongue and on the two jaws, the alignment of the teeth to be engaged is improved. Indeed, the teeth of the upper jaw engaging the teeth on the upper side of the tongue cause the teeth of the lower jaw and the teeth on the lower side of the tongue to be engaged are properly aligned, and vice vice versa. If only one pair of teeth is provided, it may happen that some of the teeth that need to engage do not because they are not properly aligned, which can cause the teeth to slide together. compared to others and cause the complete opening of the collar.
This sliding is prevented with the collar according to the invention because, if one of the sets of engaged teeth tended to slide, the other set of teeth engaged would prevent the collar from opening completely.
2) For a given bond strength, the collar may have an increased number of locking positions when two pairs of sets of engaged teeth are provided. This is due to the fact that with a collar having two pairs of sets of teeth, the number of teeth in engagement is double the number which one obtains with only one pair of sets. It follows that for a link of the same strength, the teeth of a collar may be smaller when there are two pairs of sets and that, consequently, their spacing may be less. It follows from the above that with such an arrangement of teeth, the collar according to the invention is more able to be adjusted to the required clamping force than are the known collars.
The coupling elements, or one or the other of them, such as in particular that comprising the jaws, will have sufficient inherent elastic flexibility to allow the ends of the teeth of each set to pass one over the other and then allow these teeth to engage.
The back of each tooth plays the role of a ratchet, coming to bear on the back of the opposite tooth with which it cooperates and being held there by the effect of the homologous teeth in engagement of the other set, thus producing the double bond sus - stated, of great resistance, the dynamic tension being improved when the pressure produced by the collar surrounding and tightening a flexible pipe exerts a deforming action on the elastic material of the flexible pipe.
The more we tighten, the more we increase the dynamic tension and the more we improve the resistance of the double bond.
Advantageously, the teeth of the clamp are barbed, that is to say are in the form of barbs. When the teeth of the collar are barbed, the resistance of the connection between the tongue and the jaws is much more than doubled compared to the connection obtained with a single pair of rows of identical teeth. The reason for this is that, if one tries to pull the tongue out of the jaws, the barbs of the teeth tend to bring the jaws closer together and therefore strengthen the bond. This phenomenon will be better understood if we consider the teeth of the upper jaw and the teeth of the tongue engaged with them (as shown in the accompanying drawings).
It will be noted that the barbed shape of the teeth (that is to say their reentrant rear surfaces) forces the upper jaw and the tongue to engage more closely in the presence of a tension in the collar tending to pull the tongue out of between the jaws. Similarly, the tongue and the lower jaw will also be forced against each other so that, overall, the jaws tighten on the tongue, thereby increasing the connection between them. Such a phenomenon can only occur if there is only one pair of rows of teeth.
The collar can be made of a plastic material suitable for the intended use. It can be molded in one piece. The collar can however be made of a suitable metal such as steel, which may be preferred for larger collars when dealing with higher pressures.
The collar can be provided, in the vicinity of its coupling elements, with gripping means to facilitate the insertion of the tongue into the jaws either manually or using a tool.
In the accompanying drawings, given by way of example:
fig. I and 2 show in elevation and at the end a preferred embodiment of the collar according to the invention, and
fig. 3 shows a detail of this embodiment on a larger scale.
The collar shown in the drawings comprises a flange 1, the ends of which are provided with coupling elements 2 and 3. The element 2, male, has a tongue 5 intended to be inserted between two jaws, 9 and 10, formed on the element 3, female. The tongue 5 is secured to a heel 4 secured to one of the ends of the flange 1 and the jaws 9 and 10 are secured to a heel 8 secured to the other end of the flange I, these heels being provided on the outer side of the flange. The tongue 5 has barbed teeth 6 and 7 on either side. The jaw 9 has barbed teeth 11 intended to engage with the teeth 6 of the tongue, and the jaw 10 has barbed teeth 12 intended to enter. engaged with the teeth 7 of the tongue. This engagement of the teeth is
authorized by a substantially tangential arrangement of the tongue 5 and the jaws 9 and 10 relative to the flange 1.
The collar is preformed as shown in fig. 1, the flange 1 constituting a flexible open ring. This, in the open state, has an oval shape such that, when the ring is closed, a circular shape is obtained after snapping teeth 6 and 7 with teeth 11 and 12.
By fixing the jaws 9 and 10 only to the heel 8, by one of their ends, by using an appropriate material and by judiciously dimensioning the tongue and the jaws, these can have an inherent elasticity sufficient for s '' move aside and give way to the tongue when the latter is introduced into the jaws, through the opening 13 which they form at the front, then come together to bring the teeth 6 and 7 to engage with the teeth ll and 12.
Heels 4 and 8 have ribs 14 to facilitate gripping when the collar is closed.
To open the collar once closed, grip the coupling elements 2 and 3 and move them laterally relative to each other in opposite directions (perpendicular to the plane of symmetry of the collar) until that they are free from each other.
The collar is made in one piece, for example in a suitable plastic material.
