Abstract

The emitter comprises a tube (3) mounted in a support (1) with one end free, to form a jet nozzle (4). The support is partly enclosed by a bush (5) of absorbent material, part of which is close to the nozzle. The bush can be of sintered metal, and its central portion near the nozzle can have an external conical surface (6) coaxial with the tube and support. The design effectively disposes of any surplus ink which may come to rest round the nozzle.

Description

   REVENDICATION

The invention relates to a device for emitting an ink jet comprising a tube held in a support and one end of which is free and constitutes a nozzle nozzle.

In general, to write by means of an ink jet, ink is sent into a tube under a pressure capable of creating a convex ink meniscus at the outlet of the nozzle nozzle.

The pressure required is slightly less than that which would cause the ink to flow out of the tube. The ink meniscus is therefore very sensitive to pressure variations or to shocks due to and under external forces. it may burst, The ink then spreading over the outer lateral surface of the tube, which may considerably hamper the emission of ink.

To avoid the drawbacks of wetting the outer surface of the nozzle nozzle, it has already been proposed to provide slits arranged along the tube and leading to compartments filled with absorbent material. The ink which is deposited on the outer lateral surface of the tube is sucked into the slots, under the effect of capillarity, and conducted into the compartments. However, the machining of these slots is very delicate and expensive, because their width must be very small, in principle of the order of a few tenths of a millimeter.

The object of the invention is a simple and inexpensive device allowing the efficient absorption of ink which may accidentally cover the exterior surface of the nozzle nozzle.

The device according to the invention is characterized in that the support is partially surrounded by a ring of absorbent material, at least part of which is located near the nozzle.

The single figure of the appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, a longitudinal section of an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention.

The device shown comprises a hollow cylindrical support I, one end of which has a bore 2 in which a tube 3 is retained. The free end of this tube 3 constitutes a nozzle 4. A ring 5 of absorbent material, preferably of sintered metal, is fitted on the support 1. This ring 5 has a frustoconical surface 6 coaxial with the support and surrounded by a bead 7 whose top is located substantially in the same transverse plane as the top of the frustoconical surface 6.

The tube 3 passes through the ring 5 and the nozzle nozzle 4 is located near the top of the frustoconical surface 6.

Thus, when ink spreads on the outer lateral surface of the tube 4, it is immediately absorbed by the absorbent material of the ring 5.
