The present invention relates to an apparatus for cutting washers from sheet material.
This apparatus is characterized by the fact that it comprises two cylindrical parts of which at least one is tubular and is engaged on the other, one of them carrying, secured to it, a razor blade interposed between said two. parts and which is curved so as to match the cylindrical shape thereof, its position being such that it projects, by one of its angles, the front face of said parts in at least one relative axial position thereof.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. I is a perspective view of an apparatus for cutting washers from sheet material, for example from sheets of cardboard.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a detail of this device, and
figs. 3 and 4 are axial sections thereof, in two different operating positions.
The apparatus shown comprises two tubular parts 1 and 2, engaged one in the other. the inner part 2 being longer than the outer part í and carrying, at its rear end projecting from the part 1, a knurled cap 3, screwed onto it. Part 1 has a knurled area 4 at its rear end.
The outer part 1 has, on its inner face, two projections 1a and 1b, intended to engage in the opening (s) that the razor blades present on the market, such as the blade 5, particularly visible in FIG. 2, which comes between parts 1 and 2, bending so as to match their cylindrical shape. The position of the two projections 1a and 1b is such that, when the blade 5 is engaged on them, it protrudes, by one of its angles, designated by 5a, from the front face 6 of the part 1.
The inner part 2 has two longitudinal grooves 7 and 8 intended to receive. respectively, the projections 1a and 1b and to allow them passage when the two parts 1 and 2 are engaged in one another. The part 2 also has two annular grooves 9 and 10 intended to receive the projections 1a and 1b respectively and to give them passage, which allows a rotary movement of the part I on the part 2 once they are engaged one. in the other.
A passage 1 1 is formed between the grooves 9 and 10 to allow the projection 1a to enter the groove 9. The width of the annular grooves 9 and 10 is greater than the diameter of the projections 1a and lb, which allows a slight axial play of part 1 on part 2 whatever the relative angular position of these two parts. As shown in fig. 3. when the projections 1a and 1b abut against the rear edge of the grooves 9 and 10. the part 1 is placed slightly back from the part 2, the angle 5a of the razor blade 5 not exceeding the latter .
On the other hand, and this is visible in FIG. 4, when the projections 1a and 1b bear against the front edge of the grooves 9 and 10. respectively. the two parts 1 and 2 have their front end faces 6, respectively 12, located in the same plane, the angle 5a of the blade 5 projecting in front of the latter.
The apparatus described and shown operates as follows:
The material to be cut, designated by 13 in fig. 3 and 4, in this case a sheet of cardboard, is placed on a support, for example a wooden table 14. The two parts 1 and 2 occupying the relative axial position shown in FIG. 1, The device is placed on the sheet 13 to be cut as shown in FIG. 3 and is held firmly applied thereto, by the face 12 of the part 2, the knurled stopper 3 being held with one hand by the operator.
With the other hand, the latter grasps the part 1 by its knurled part and moves it axially, while imparting to it a rotary movement, thus causing the projecting angle 5a of the razor blade 5 to penetrate the material of the sheet. 13 and cutting a washer therein as part 1 continues to rotate.
Once completed a complete turn from the moment when the angle 5a of the razor blade has penetrated the material of the cutting sheet, the operation is completed, the washer then separating from the sheet.
This device can be used for many uses. in particular when cutting, from photographs or postcards, of washers intended to be placed in medallions.
