Abstract

Purifying device for water consists of an Archimedean screw with a two-start thread; the edges of the threads are welded to a cylindrical envelope. The cylinder and the screw are pref. metallic and rotate around a fixed axis which runs in a bearing at the bottom of the tank, contg. the water to be purified. The summit of the envelope is surmounted by a fixed, conical funnel whilst a motor driven wheel turns the axis of the screw. The screw may have a considerable length and the envelope may be supplied with openings through which the water can be expelled while the sludge and other solid substances are settled out; they are retained in the cylinder and are subsequently collected and evacuated through a tube. The envelope may also be short and project only 5cm above the surface of the water; the water is projected by centrifugal force into the air and dispersed in the form of fine droplets which become oxygenated. The device is inexpensive and operates with the min. of energy. It is simple, can be used universally and is free from breakdowns and wear.

Description

 la fig. I représente en élévation un dispositif à deux filets avec entrainement sur l'axe et entonnoir;

   The present invention relates to a device for the purification of water.

   The purification of water can include several operations including, in particular, the treatment by addition of bacteriological products and oxygenation, as well as the elimination of sludge and other residual solid fragments.

   Oxygenation generally takes place by taking the water to be purified in a basin and by projecting and dispersing it in the air. One of the preferred water collection devices comprises an Archimedean screw having its rotary motion within a fixed cylindrical casing. The efficiency of such a device is low, because a large part of the water flows between the screw and the cylinder. Indeed, a certain clearance always remains between them to avoid friction which, precisely, would also reduce this efficiency. As for the projection and the dispersion of water as well as the elimination of sludge, these operations require other devices of all kinds, requiring for the most part high energies. This considerably increases the cost of these water purification installations.

   The aim of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks and to considerably lower the cost of the installations, which allows them to be used on a smaller scale.

   The device which is the subject of the present invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one vertical Archimedean screw with at least one thread, the edge of which is integral with a cylindrical envelope, means being furthermore provided for dispersing the column. of water raised by the screw.

   This device makes it possible to carry out the operations indicated, as well as other operations related to them, such as pumping. etc., with minimal energy consumption, remarkable economy of means, total simplicity and universality of use, perfect resistance to breakdowns and wear.

   The accompanying drawings show non-limiting examples of embodiment of the invention. In these:
 fig. I shows in elevation a device with two threads with drive on the axis and funnel;
 fig. 2 shows a detail of a variant with external drive, and
 fig. 3 shows a column device with a perforated envelope.

   As can be seen in the drawing (see fig. I and 2), the device 1 consists of an Archimedean screw with two threads 2, threads of which the two edges 3 are welded to a casing 4. The screw and the casing are preferably metallic. The cylinder and the screw rotate around a fixed axis 5, the foot 6 of which rests on the bottom of the basin containing the water to be purified. The top of the cylindrical casing 4 is surmounted by a part 7 in the form of a conical funnel fixed on it. A drive wheel 8 drives the axis 9 of the screw, this wheel itself being driven by a motor 10.

   The envelope 4 being integral with the Archimedean screw, the movement can also be imprinted on this envelope. Fig. 2 shows rollers 11 which act on it for this purpose, these rollers themselves being driven by a motor.

   In another embodiment (see fig. 3). the Archimedean screw has a more considerable height and the casing 4 is provided with openings 12 through which water can escape, sludge and other solid substances settling and remaining inside the screw to be then collected by tube 13.

   The device can operate in several different ways: in fig. 1, it takes water near the surface and raises a column of this water to a height not exceeding 5 cm above this surface. The water thus raised arrives in the conical funnel to which the casing to which it is attached imparts a rotary movement. Because of this rotating movement. it is projected by centrifugation in the air and thus dispersed in very fine droplets which are thus oxygenated. The energy used to achieve the double result of sampling and projection is extremely low, which gives the device maximum efficiency and efficiency.

   According to the other embodiment described, the water to be purified rises inside the envelope. During their ascent. a settling process takes place, whereby sludge and solid particles remain trapped in the screw, while clearer water can flow out through the orifices. This process can take place either underwater or in the air. In this last case. to the decantation effect described is added a centrifugation and oxygenation effect similar to that described above.

   It goes without saying that the device can combine the various embodiments described above.
