Abstract

A device for converting reciprocating motion into rotary motion consists of a piston and cylinder (3) with the carry of the cylinder (4) fixed on a framework (2) and the head of the piston (7) attached by a pivot pin (8) to the periphery of a disc (1) to be rotated. The other end of the piston rod (7) protruding from the cylinder carries two buffers (22, 23) which, on the forward piston stroke, abut a pair of stops (24) mounted on the rear of the cylinder. The cylinder itself can also pivot about a vertical pin mounted in bearings (5) on the frame (2), supporting the rear of the cylinder. As the disc (1) is rotated by reciprocation of the piston (7), the piston and cylinder pivot about the rear pivot point (21) and a bar (14) attached by a pivot pin (15) to a point on the piston rod between the buffers and restring against the cylinder pivot (21), acts to operate the arm (17) of a switch (13) controlling the supply of pressure fluid to the cylinder.
