[Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIX] In a reciprocating flat switch reciprocatory motion is obtained from rotary motion by driving a toothed wheel 24 around the circumference of a fixed internally toothed wheel 14 of twice its diameter so that a point on its circumference reciprocates along a diameter corresponding to the centre line of a connecting rod 27 which is attached to a stud 26 on the wheel 14 at the said point and the reciprocating motion is amplified by the action of'an idle sprocket wheel 29 on a fixed rack 30 and a slidable rack 34 which drives the brush carriage. The wheel 24 is driven by a flexible toothed wheel 19 through a shaft 17 and an arm 20.
