642,833. Converting rotary to oscillatory motion. McKINNEY, R. J., and McEVOY, W. Jan. 8, 1948, No. 587. [Class 80(iii)] Mechanism for obtaining an oscillatory motion of a lever B from a rotary crank A comprises a reciprocating rod C coupled by a connecting rod E to the crank and carrying a spring-loaded catch D. On the downward stroke of the rod E the catch D engages and drives the lever B until the catch is released by a fixed abutment F. The lever B is then released and is returned quickly to its initial position by a spring G in readiness for another stroke. 'The position of the abutment F is adjustable to vary the effective stroke. In the Provisional Specification the application of the mechanism for operating a cutter for a strip of moving material is described.
