Abstract

A reciprocating drive particularly for pumps is designed to ensure maximum drive for the reciprocating shaft and minimum loss of dead time, with rapid return movement, and has a pair of opposed pistons (7, 8) each with its piston rod (6, 6') reciprocated in guides (13, 14, 15, 16) ensuring horizontal movement, each rod being connected by a pivot attachment (9, 12) to a drive arm which swings about a hinge pin (19) at the top. Each arm is driven in turn by a rotating disc (21) with an eccentric pin (24) extending from it which passes through the arm to act as the drive member. The two discs can be mounted on a common drive shaft with the two pins (24) acting in opposition so as to drive the arms alternately.
