Wood milling cutters are already known comprising a tip intended to be clamped in a machine, this tip being extended by a cylindrical portion having at least one slot, in which a hard metal knife is retained.
The object of the present invention is to make it possible to sharpen cutters of this type and to be able to return them without difficulty to the initial dimension. To this end, the cutter according to the invention is characterized in that the knife is fixed in a removable and adjustable manner in said slot, a collar being provided between the end piece and the cylindrical portion, this collar having a diameter corresponding to that for which is the strawberry.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment and a variant of the cutter object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the cutter according to this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial section along the line III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section similar to FIG. 3 of the variant.
The strawberry shown in fig. 1 to 3 comprises a tip 1 intended to be clamped in a machine such as an electric router. This tip is extended by a cylindrical portion 2 having a slot in which is retained a knife 3 made of hard metal, such as tungsten carbide or the like. This knife 3 is removably fixed in said slot by tightening the lips thereof under the action of an imbued screw 4 with a conical head, engaged in a radial bore of the cylindrical portion.
This bore extends on either side of the slot and has a thread 5 on one side of the slot to allow screw 4 to be tightened.
Between the end piece 1 and the cylindrical portion 2, the milling cutter has a flange 6, the outside diameter of which corresponds to that for which the milling cutter is provided.
Thanks to this arrangement, the sharpening of the cutter is very easy, since it suffices to remove the screw 4 in order to be able to remove the knife 3 and sharpen it. Then, the knife is put back in place and can be brought rigorously to the desired dimension without using any measuring instrument, simply by placing its leading edge flush with the edge of the collar 6, the latter playing the role of diameter gauge. Of course, the cutting angles of the knife are chosen according to the material in which the milling cutter has to work.
It should also be noted that the cylindrical portion 2 has two axial grooves 7 intended to facilitate the removal of the chips and to allow the passage of air to improve the cooling of the cutter.
For cutters of sufficient diameter, for example for cutters over 13 min, it is easy to provide for the placement of two knives 3 and 3a, as shown in FIG. 4.
In the latter case, one can provide, as shown, two clamping screws 4 and 4a, but it is clear that one could also ensure the simultaneous clamping of the two knives by means of a single screw.
In the embodiment shown, the bottom of the slot of the cylindrical portion 2 is located in the plane of connection between the flange and the cylindrical portion, but it goes without saying that the bottom of the slot could be located at some distance of the collar 6, or on the contrary penetrate partially inside this collar.
