The present invention relates to a cutting tool comprising a body and a removable cutting insert. This tool is more particularly intended to be mounted for example on a lathe. on a milling machine or on another machine for machining metal parts in particular.
The cutting tool, object of this invention is characterized by the fact that a guide head is pivotally mounted on the body along an axis perpendicular to the bearing plane of the cutting insert, and comprises a bearing V receiving in service position two adjacent side faces of the cutting insert.
The appended drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the cutting tool according to the invention, in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view; - fig. 2 is a top plan view; and - fig. 3 est.a sectional view along II-II 'of a detail of FIG. 2.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 3, the cutting tool comprises a body 1, intended to be fixed on an appropriate member of a machining machine for example, and one end of which has a bearing surface or plane 2.
A guide head 3 is pivotally mounted on the bearing surface 2 along an axis perpendicular to the latter; this guide head 3 has a support V 4 which receives, in the service position (see fig. 1 and 2), two side faces or edges of a cutting insert 5, for example made of hard metal, this cutting insert. section being in contact either with the bearing surface or with an intermediate element 6 itself in contact with the bearing surface 2.
In this embodiment, the pivot axis of the guide head 3 coincides with the axis of the fixing of the cutting insert 5, this axis being constituted here by a screw 7 cooperating with a thread made perpendicular to the bearing surface 2 in the body 1. To ensure better resistance to mechanical forces, and to allow the pivoting of the guide head 3 simultaneously with the cutting insert, this guide head 3 has a convex vertical cylindrical surface 8, whose origin of the radius of curvature coincides with the pivot axis 7, and which cooperates in the service position with a concave vertical cylindrical wall of the same radius as the body 1.
In another possible embodiment (not shown), the cutting insert is removably attached to the guide head by means of a fixing screw for example, and the guide head is pivotally mounted on the surface of the blade. support of the body by means of a pivot axis cooperating directly with the guide head on the one hand and the body on the other hand.
The cutting tool also comprises means for blocking the guide head in a chosen operating position and adjustment means for rotating this guide head in a controlled manner.
In the embodiment illustrated by way of example, the locking means comprise a screw 9 passing through an elongated opening 10 made in the guide head 3 and cooperating with a thread made in the body 1.
The adjustment means allowing controlled pivoting of the guide head comprise in this embodiment a screw 11 cooperating on the one hand with a thread 12 formed in the body 1 in a plane parallel to the bearing surface 2 and on the other hand a clearance 13 made in the guide head 3, the bottom 13 'of this clearance serving as a stop for the end of the screw 11.
The cutting tool has the advantage of allowing the user, thanks to the pivoting guide head with which it is provided, to make a fine and precise adjustment of the dimension f (see fig. 2), generally up to to approximately 1 mm, this adjustment being able to be made directly on the machine, without having to loosen or even remove the tool from the machine as is necessary with other known cutting tools.
It suffices, for example in the case of the embodiment illustrated, to release the locking screw 9 of the guide head 3, to slightly loosen the fixing screw 7 of the cutting insert 5, then to bring the cutting tip 5 ', in the desired position determined for example with a comparator in contact with this tip 5', by acting on the adjustment screw 11, and finally to block the locking screw 9 and the fixing screw 7 .
The cutting tool described is therefore suitable in particular for performing dimension corrections in the case of numerically controlled machines or presettings in the case of traditional machines.
