Tool holder for milling cutter with attached blades. The present invention relates to a tool holder for a milling cutter with attached blades, comprising a body provided with a central opening, with a view to its attachment to a control shaft, as well as at least one radial projection provided with a housing intended to receive a tool, this housing having in its median part a slot dividing it into two parts and intended to allow relative movement of these two parts under the action of at least one control member in view fixing the tool in the housing.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross section thereof; Fig. 2 is a plan; Fig. 3 is a side view.
Tool holder A is bored at its center to the diameter of the end mill shaft of the bearing on which it is to be mounted. Its two faces a and a have a width at least equal to the diameter of the shaft clamping washer. They are rigorously erected along a plane perpendicular to the axis of the bore, in order to allow a plating by fact on the shoulder of the shaft. The holder or tils ends with parts B and 131, symmetrical about the center and. whose special profile is shown in fig. 1.
They each have a groove of sufficient dimensions to give the jaws c ci d dl the elasticity they need. A housing in the form of a slide with a dovetail cross section e or f is designed to receive the tool. This is then laughingly blocked by tightening the screws g. The holes used for the passage of these screws are drilled smooth in c and d, and tapped in ci and d1. The screws g, tapped over a length greater than the thickness of ci, are terminated by a square head m and a collar o.
The tools used, which are not shown in the appended figures, have a varied profile depending on the work to be performed; but all end in a dovetail, to be able to engage exactly in the slides e and f; they are held in place by tightening the screws g. The tool holder is placed on the spindle of the router and rests on its shoulder. It is locked using a washer and a clamping nut. The tools or cutting blades are then introduced into the slides; the distance from the top of the cutting angles to the center of the shaft is calibrated exactly with an adjustment gauge, so that the cutter turns rigorously round. The tightening screws, by an energetic blocking, keep the blades in place.
For sharpening it is sufficient. to take out these blades; this operation is greatly facilitated owing to the fact that there is no need to strictly maintain the cutting angle, it being possible to maintain it by virtue of the slides. Consequently, the initial profile is preserved and the original diameter is held by hand. The tool holder is intended for a milling cutter of the two-blade type; it is also made for cutters with more than two blades.
