5. Pollisage.
6. Traitement de surface.

There are many methods of manufacturing watch strap buckles, the most common of which are those consisting in obtaining them either by folding or by welding. Such loops often exhibit imperfections or initiation of fracture at the folds or welds. Finally, these known methods generally require complex and expensive tools for the automatic manufacture of the loops.
The present invention tends to obviate these drawbacks and relates to a method for manufacturing a watch strap buckle which is distinguished by the fact that this buckle is produced by machining a portion of a profile.
The subject of the invention is also a loop obtained according to the method described which is distinguished by the fact that it consists of a machined part.
The appended drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example three implementations of the method according to the invention.
Fig. I illustrates the oblique milling of a profile to obtain a loop.
Fig. 2 illustrates the production of a loop from a profile by cutting and applying impressions thereon.
Fig. 3 illustrates the production of a loop by milling and cutting off a section.
The blank for a buckle is taken from a generally U-shaped brass section, the middle part of which forming the bridge of the buckle can have very variable aspects, for example longitudinal grooves, a section of desired shape. The fact of using a profile therefore makes it possible to easily obtain all shapes and decorations of the loop bridge.
According to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, the loop is pulled from the profile by oblique milling. Then the part forming the bridge of a section of profile receives the imprint of a decorative pattern by pressing for example.
Then various milling operations give the sides and the bridge the final shape desired for a given loop. These milling operations can all be done automatically with existing machine tools or transfer machines.
The holes are drilled in the sides and are intended to receive an elastic bar.
The loop can be finished by polishing followed by protection such as nickel plating or gilding.
In the second implementation of the method illustrated in FIG. 2, the loop is drawn from a section having the general shape of a U by successive operations. The imprint 1 of the decoration is printed on certain parts of the middle branch of the profile at the same time as the clearances 2 are cut between two parts.
Finally the sides 3 are cut between two opposite stamps.
Here also the buckle can be polished and nickel-plated or gold-plated.
In the third embodiment of the method shown in FIG. 3, the loop is obtained by milling in a solid section and then by cutting to separate the parts. Here also the imprint of a decoration can be opposed on the bridge, and the loop is finished by polishing and nickel plating or gilding.
The main advantages of pulling the loop from a profile are
a) The robustness of the buckle and the absence of any defect at the junction of the sidewalls and the bridge, which here came from one and the same workpiece without deformation.
b) The possibility of giving the shape of the section of the profile any kind of shape to the decoration of the bridge.
c) The possibility of making a loop by machining and without special tools.
In a variant not shown, the manufacture of a watch strap buckle from a profile could include the following operations:
1. Sawing the profile.
2. Deburring.
3. Applying the imprint of an acronym and cutting the shape of the bridge.
4. Cut the shape of the sides and the holes for the bar between two opposite stamps.
5. Polling.
6. Surface treatment.
