The present invention relates to a device for terminating an electrical cable and earthing the sheath of said cable, this cable being composed of a conductor, a metal sheath and an insulating sheath, this device comprising a sheath. rigid, an O-ring surrounding the insulating sheath of the cable and a sleeve made elastic by means of slits, said sleeve surrounding the insulating sheath near a part of the cable released from this insulating sheath to expose the metal sheath.
The invention aims, on the one hand, to ensure the locking of the cable and the tightening of the O-ring for sealing purposes. It also aims to ensure effective earthing by very simple means.
These goals are achieved with the device according to the invention which is characterized by a tightening nut screwed by one of its ends onto a thread of the rigid sheath and having at its other end a fold comprising a ramp holding in contact with a inclined part of the sleeve in order to press this sleeve against the cable and against the O-ring bearing against the end of the rigid sheath, and by a spring of conductive material introduced between the metal sheath and the insulating sheath of the cable, this spring having a curved part coming into contact with the rigid sheath and a strip pressed by the O-ring against the metal sheath of the cable.
This device will be described below with reference to the appended drawing which relates to exemplary embodiments.
Fig. I is a sectional view illustrating means for tightening an O-ring.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the part used for earthing.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of an embodiment of the device comprising means for clamping the seal and the earthing part similar to those illustrated respectively in FIGS. 1 and 2.
In fig. 1, the cable coming from the right in the figure is shown at 1 and ending beyond the dashed line on the left, at 2 the end of a rigid sheath surrounding the cable, at 3 an O-ring (O-ring) located between a ring 4 and a ring 5 in contact with a sleeve 6 made elastic by means of slots (not shown) in FIG. 1.
A tightening nut 7 is screwed at one end onto a thread 8 of the sheath 2 and has at the other end a fold 9 comprising a ramp 10 coming into contact with an inclined part 1 1 of the sleeve 6.
The cooperation of the ramp 10 with the inclined part 1 1 gives rise to a component acting on the cable 1 via the sleeve 6 and, on the other hand, to a component directed on the O-ring and transmitted thereon. by the sleeve 6 and by the intermediary of the rings 4 and 5. A locking of the cable is thus obtained in order to ensure the mechanical fixing or retention of the cable and at the same time the tightening of the O-ring in order to ensure tightness. .
It is advantageous for the sleeve 6 and the ring 5 to be made in a single piece in order thus to avoid any sliding and any rotation of one of the pieces 5 and 6 with respect to the other.
In fig. 2, the cable I is shown in detail, comprising a metal sheath 12 and an insulating sheath 13. The O-ring 3 is located between the two clamping pieces 14 and 13, one of which 14 forms a metal envelope corresponding to the sheath 2.
The establishment of the earthing between the metal sheath 12 and the casing 14 takes place by means of a spring 16 of thin conductive material which is introduced between the insulating sheath 13 of the cable and the metallic sheath 12. This spring carries a curved part 17 coming into contact with the casing 14.
The leaf of the spring must be arranged so that, by its clamping action, the O-ring 3 can intervene in order to apply this leaf to the metal sheath 12 and thus to ensure good electrical contact.
An effective earthing is thus ensured by very simple means, that is to say without welding, fixing by bolts. etc.
Fig. 3 shows an embodiment which comprises means similar to those shown in FIG. 1 in combination with the part used for earthing according to fig. 2 and which has all the advantages.
We therefore have, on the one hand, the nut 7 designed and acting as provided in FIG. 1 and the spring 16-17 arranged and intervening as in FIG. 2; in addition, the sleeve 6 and the ring
S form a single piece and the ring 4 is formed by the end of the rigid sheath 2.
At 18, there is shown one of the slots with which the sleeve 6 is provided.
