Abstract

The cable gland serves both to anchor and seal the cable where it enters a junction box or similar fitting. The main part (A) of the gland body which receives the sealing ring (a) is extended in a conical projection (a2) in which lodges a metal ring (e) having a corresponding shape, ensuring that the cable is clamped and that its sheath is earthed. The clamping ring (e) has radial slots allowing some expansion when the ring is pushed over the cable sheath, and its rearward face (g) is shaped to fit against the sealing ring (a). Differing tapers are used for the part of the gland (al) accepting the sealing ring (a) and the part (a2) receiving the clamping ring (e). A locking ring (C) screws into the main part (A) of the gland, compressing the clamping ring (e) as it is tightened.
