EMI0001.0009
EMI0001.0017
Pflanzenschutzmittel Verwendung finden.

Process for the preparation of α-alkyl or α-aryl mercaptocarboxylic acid derivatives. The subject of the main patent is a process for the preparation of derivatives of the thioacids of phosphorus, characterized in that a α alkyl or a α aryl mercapto (sulfoxydo-, sulfonol-) ss-halocarboxylic acids or their functional derivatives reacted with thio- or dithiophosphorus or phosphonic acid esters or thio- or dithiophosphinic acids and obtained derivatives of the thioacids of phosphorus containing mercapto groups, optionally to the corresponding sulfoxyd- or sulfone-containing derivatives of the thioacids of phosphorus are oxidized.
The compounds of the general formula (I) accessible by this process
EMI0001.0006
have excellent insecticidal, in some cases systemic, effectiveness against a number of harmful insects.
In the above formula, R stands for an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl radical and R1 stands for a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group. R2 and R3 stand for alkyl or alkoxy radicals. X denotes an esterified or amidated carboxyl group or the cyano group and Y an oxygen or sulfur atom; n is 0,1 or 2.
In further processing of the field it has now been found that aα-alkyl or aα-aryl mercap to - (- sulfoxydo-, sulfonol-) ß-halocarboxylic acid derivatives of the general formula (II)
EMI0001.0009
the reaction described are accessible, compounds of the general formula (III)
EMI0001.0010
can be obtained.
In the formulas (II) and (III) R, R1, X, Y and n have the same meaning as given above, R2 and R3 represent optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radicals which are attached directly or via oxygen the Phospho ratom are bound. R 'denotes an alkyl radical and Hal denotes a halogen atom.
As can be seen from formula (III), the thioacids of phosphorus obtainable according to the invention differ from the compounds described in the main patent in that in the latter the hydrogen atom in the αα position is replaced by an alkyl group R '.
The α-alkyl or α-aryl mercapto (- sulfoxydo-, sulfono-) ß-halocarboxylic acid derivatives of the formula (II) required as starting materials for the process according to the invention can be carried out in the manner described in the main patent Addition of optionally substituted alkyl or arylsulfenic acid halides onto aαss-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives of the general formula (IV)
EMI0001.0017
and optionally oxidation of the aα-alkyl or aα-aryl mercapto-ß-halocarboxylic acid derivatives formed to give the corresponding ß-halosulfoxides or sulfones.
In the last-mentioned formula, R ', R1 and X have the meaning given above.
The process according to the invention is expediently carried out at temperatures from 50 to 100 ° C. and using inert organic solvents. As such come z. B. hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, xylene) and lower aliphatic ketones or nitriles such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, acetonitrile, etc. in question.
The derivatives of thioacids of phosphorus obtainable according to the process are mostly colorless oils, some of which can only be distilled in a high vacuum without decomposition.
Like the products described in the main patent, the compounds which can be prepared according to the present invention are also distinguished by excellent insecticidal properties and should therefore be used as pesticides or plant protection agents.
The following examples may illustrate the claimed process:
