Vorzugsweise enthält A jedoch elek- trophile Substituenten,

Process for the preparation of azo dyes that are sparingly soluble in water It has been found that valuable azo dyes that are sparingly soluble in water are obtained if the diazonium compound of an amine of the formula I A-NH2 (I) with an azo component of the formula II
EMI0001.0010
couples to a compound of formula III,
EMI0001.0012
in which formulas X is the hydroxyl or amino group,
Y is an alkyl group with 1 to 6 carbon atoms or the phenyl group, but preferably the methyl group, A is an optionally substituted phenyl group and R is an aliphatic group, and the benzene ring B can be further substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups, and here at the components is chosen so that the dye does not contain any acidic dissociating, water-solubilizing group or complex-forming group in water.
Examples of possible substituents on the phenyl ring A are: aliphatic groups, which are preferably saturated and have 1 to 4 carbon atoms, for example the methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl group, alkoxy groups, especially those with 1 to 4 carbon atoms , such as the methoxy, ethoxy or butoxy group or acyl amino,
preferably carbacylamino groups and, among these, in particular lower alkanoyl groups, such as the acetylamino group or unsubstituted or chlorine or alkyl-substituted benzoylamino groups. Preferably, however, A contains electrophilic substituents,
since these have a favorable effect on the lightfastness of dyes obtainable according to the invention, especially in the o- and p-positions to the azo bond. Examples of electrophilic substituents are above all the nitro, trifluoromethyl or cyano group, also the halogens, such as fluorine, chlorine or bromine, and aliphatic or aromatic acyl groups such as the acetyl or propionyl group,
and also benzoyl groups optionally substituted by chlorine, bromine or lower alkyl groups. Arylazo groups can also be substituents from the A radical.
If A contains an arylazo group, according to the invention it is a phenylazo group whose benzene ring can contain the substituents mentioned in the last section. Dyes of the formula III which can be prepared according to the invention and are substituted by an aryl azo group in A give reddish-tinged yellow colorations; if A is free from arylazo groups, very pure greenish yellow to yellow colors are available.
In the -S02-R substituent of the formula 1I or III, R advantageously denotes a lower alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, for example the methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl or amyl radical; However, R can also mean an optionally further substituted alkyl radical, such as the chloromethyl radical.
Dyes of the formula HI with the -SO- R group in the m-position to the azo bond are preferred because of their relatively easy accessibility and particularly high lightfastness. If the benzene ring B is further substituted by alkyl or alkoxy groups, these preferably have 1 or 2 carbon atoms; if it is further substituted by halogens, in particular by chlorine.
Valuable greenish-yellow dyes are obtained when these substituents occupy the o-positions for bonding to the pyrazole ring.
Amines of the formula I which can be used according to the invention are, for example: 1-amino-2-nitro-benzene, 1-amino-2-nitro-4-methyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-nitro-4-methoxy- or ethoxybenzene , 1-amino-2-nitro-4-chloro-, fluoro- or -bromobenzene, 1-amino-2-nitro-4-trifluoromethyl-benzene, 1-amino-4-nitro-benzene, 1-amino- 4-nitro-2-methyl-benzene, 1-amino-4-nitro-2-methoxy- or ethoxybenzene,
1-Amino-4-nitro-2-chloro-, -fluor- or -bromobenzene, 1-amino-4-nitro-2-cyanobenzene, 1-amino-4-nitro-2,5-dichlorobenzene, '1 Amino-4-nitro-2,6-dichloro- or dibromo-benzene, 1-amino-2,4-dinitro-benzene, 1-amino-2,4-dinitro-6-chloro-benzene or 1-amino-2 , 4-, -2,5-, -3,4-dicyan benzene, 4 amino-azobenzene.
Coupling components of the formula II which can be used according to the invention are, for example, 1- (2'-, 3'- or 4'-methylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2'-, 3'- or 4 ', ethylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2 '-, 3'- or 4'-propylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2'-, 3'- or 4'-butylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2'-, 3'- or 4'-amylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2'-chloro- or -bromo-5'-methylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2'-methyl-5'-ethylsulfonylphenyl) -, 1- (2 ',
5'-dichloro- or dibromo-4'-propylsulfonyl-phenyl) - or 1- (T-methoxy- or -ethoxy-5'-methylsulfonyl-phenyl) -3-methyl- or -ethyl 5-hydroxypyrazole and the analogous 5 -Amino-pyrazole.
These coupling components are obtained, for example, by condensation of aromatic hydrazines of the formula IV
EMI0002.0062
with β-ketocarboxylic acid esters of the formula Y-CO-CH, COOR 'or with f-ketocarboxylic acid nitriles of the formula Y-CO-CH2 CN, where R' denotes an alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R and Y have the meaning given under formula III to have.
The coupling is usually carried out in a weakly acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline agent. The 5-hydroxypyrazole derivatives are preferably coupled in a weakly alkaline medium and the 5-aminopyrazole compounds in a weakly acidic medium.
Optionally, a suitable diazonium compound can also be coupled simultaneously with a mixture of two or more coupling components which can be used according to the invention, or a mixture of suitable diazonium compounds can be reacted with a coupling component which can be used according to the invention.
The dyes obtainable according to the invention are suitable for dyeing hydrophobic, synthetic organic textile fibers from aqueous dispersion, for example for dyeing cellulose diacetate to triacetate, but especially for dyeing high-molecular esters of aromatic polycarboxylic acids with polyfunctional alcohols,
especially of glycol terephthalates. The dyes can also be used for dyeing synthetic polyamide fibers, such as nylon.
If appropriate, lightfast dyeings can also be produced on polyacrylonitrile fibers using dyes which can be prepared according to the invention. Compared to previously known dyes of a similar constitution, azo dyes which can be prepared according to the invention have a better ability to be drawn to glycol terephthalates and a better wool reserve.
The polyester dyes produced with these dyes are more resistant to sublimation.
The dyeing of polyester fibers with aqueous dispersions of dyes obtainable according to the invention is preferably carried out at temperatures above 100 ° C. under pressure. However, the coloring can also be carried out at the boiling point of water in the presence of color carriers, so-called carriers, such as phenylphenol, polychlorobenzene compounds or similar auxiliaries.
In individual cases, the drawability of the dyes can be improved by mixing two or more new monoazo dyes.
Depending on the composition and mixture of the dyes, greenish to reddish yellow, very good wet, sublimation and lightfast dyeings can be produced on polyester fibers.
In the examples below, parts mean parts by weight, unless expressly stated otherwise. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Parts by weight have the same relationship to parts by volume as g to cm3. Example 1 25.6 parts of 1-amino-2-nitro-4-methylbenzene who in the usual way in a mixture of 400 parts of water and 35 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid with a solution of 6,
9 parts of sodium nitrite in 50 parts of water are diazotized at 0-5. The clarified solution of the diazonium salt is added dropwise at 0-5 to a suspension of 26.6 parts of 1- (2'-methyl-5'-methylsulfonyl-phenyl) -3-methyl-5-hydroxy-pyrazole in 250 parts Water,
25 parts of acetic acid and 1 part of a fatty alcohol-polyethylene oxide condensation product. The pH of the reaction mixture is increased to 4-5 by the slow dropwise addition of sodium hydroxide solution, the coupling product precipitating out. After coupling has ended, the yellow dye is filtered off, washed neutral with water and dried at 60-70 in vacuo. It is a yellow-orange powder, its composition of the formula
EMI0003.0005
corresponds.
Milled with a surface-active condensation product of naphthalenesulfonic acids and formaldehyde, the dyestuff obtained in this way dyes from aqueous dispersion while largely exhausting the dyebath fibers made from polyglycol terephthalate, such as DACRON (from EJ Du Pont de Nemours), optionally in the presence of a quenching agent such as o-Phenylphenol, in bright yellow tones. The colors are extremely washable, sublimation and lightfast.
In the above example, instead of the 26.6 parts of 1- (2'-methyl-5'-methylsulfonyl-phenyl) -3-methyl-5-hydroxy-pyrazole, the equivalent amount of one of the coupling components given in Table I, column 3 is used and if they are combined under the conditions given in the above example with the diazo components given in column 2, dyestuffs of similar good properties which have the colorations given in column 4 of Table I on polyester fibers are obtained.

b) 2 parts of the according to Example 3, Table 1I, No. 19, the dye obtained in 2000 parts of water containing 4 parts of sodium salt of a formaldehyde-naphthalenesulfonic acid condensation product, finely suspended. The pH of the dyebath is adjusted to 6-6.5 with acetic acid.
100 parts of yarn made of polyglycol terephthalate are then melted at 50, the bath is heated to 120 within 30 minutes and the yarn is dyed for 50 minutes at this temperature. The dyed goods are then rinsed with water, soaped and dried. If these conditions are observed, a wash, rub, light and sublimation fast, pure, yellow coloration is obtained.
The dyes described in the other examples result in dyeings of equal quality according to this process.
c) Polyglycol terephthalate fabric such as DACRON (from E. J. Du Pont) is impregnated on a padder at 40 with a liquor of the following composition:
20 parts of the dye obtained in Example 1 finely dispersed in 7.5 parts of sodium alginate, 20 parts of triethanolamine, 20 parts of a fatty alcohol-polyethylene oxide condensation product and 900 parts of water finally fixed for 30 seconds at a temperature of 210. The dyed goods are rinsed with water, soaped and dried.
Under these conditions, a yellow dyeing that is fast to washing, rubbing, light and sublimation is obtained. The dyes described in the other examples produce dyeings of equal quality by this method.
