La fig. 2 représente -schématiquement un ensemble destiné à .la mise en oeuvre du procédé. II comprend un dispositif d'entraînement automatique 9 commandant le déplacement du profilé 1 à travers un support 10 présentant une ouverture de guidage correspondant à la section droite @du praf;

Lorsque les deux pieds sont usinés, le profilé est rappelé en arrière de façon que la surface 12 pénètre à l'intérieur du support du profilé, ce qui a pour effet de détacher Tes bavures éventuelles ayant pu se former sur le pourtour du profilé lors du fraisage des pieds, le profilé est ensuite déplacé à nouveau .de façon que la fraise 13 vienne sectionner le profilé pour détacher J'ébauche du signe à la hauteur 14 désirée. Il convient encore de ;

Method of manufacturing raised signs intended to be fixed on a clock face plate and sign obtained by this process Various processes are currently known which make it possible to manufacture raised signs intended to be fixed on a clockwork dial plate. watchmaking. These signs are usually designed according to the method of attaching the sign to the plate.
The object of the present invention relates only to signs intended to be fixed on the dial plate by: the intermediary of one or more feet. This method of attachment is still the most common when the signs in relief are executed in a precious metal such as gold or platinum, or when it is desired to attach signs that have already been completed.
Currently these signs in relief are obtained by starting from a strip of material which is stamped so as to leave one or more feet and, then, the periphery of the sign in relief is cut out relative to the initially stamped foot.
In practice, it is necessary to carry out several operations with a press, and this by using tools which become very delicate when the signs in relief are of small size and that the feet consequently have a very small diameter compared to their length.
On the other hand, regardless of the initial cost of the tools, and their delicacy requiring their very frequent replacement, it is necessary for each particular sign to have a well-defined set of tools according to the periphery of the signs, the diameter of the feet. and the remoteness of these. On the other hand, it is difficult to obtain feet of a regular length by the stamping process.
The object of the present invention relates to a method which. makes it possible, with the aid of a simpler basic tool, and therefore more economical, to produce more precise and careful relief signs, in terms of the position and precision of execution of the feet. It tends to remedy the drawbacks of the known methods.
This process is characterized in that we start with a profile chosen according to the shape to be given to: the blank of the sign, in that we machine: by removing material the front face of the profile so as to obtain the foot or feet, and -in that the profile is cut: to detach; the blank of the sign obtained in such a way that it has the desired shape and height.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, the various stages of machining, a schematic view of an assembly for the implementation of the method and two details of the execution of signs obtained by the method.
On the fg. 1, we note the successive phases for the manufacture of a raised .sign comprising two feet.
We start with a profile 1, of straight section 2. The front face 1A is milled along axis 4 using a bell cutter 3, so as to obtain: the .foot 5, the height of that - here being - determined by the sinking depth of the: cutter.
The bell cutter then comes to perform an identical work but along axis 6 so as to produce the second foot. It is then sufficient to section ale sign at 8, at a certain distance from its base, depending on the height of the relief that is to be obtained.
Fig. 2 schematically represents an assembly intended for the implementation of the method. It comprises an automatic drive device 9 controlling the movement of the section 1 through a support 10 having a guide opening corresponding to the straight section @du praf;
Isle. The profile is advanced until the front face oc-

cape position 1.1 in which it is immobilized. The milling cutter 3, controlled by a machining unit, then comes to work along axis 4 to machine the foot 5. The milling cutter then retreats along its working axis and the machining unit moves so that the milling cutter can come to work again under identical conditions to those mentioned above, but along axis 6 so as to machine foot 7.
When the two feet are machined, the profile is brought back so that the surface 12 penetrates inside the support of the profile, which has the effect of detaching any burrs that may have formed on the periphery of the profile during the milling of the feet, the profile is then moved again .de so that the cutter 13 comes to cut the profile to detach the blank from the sign at the desired height 14. It should still be;
specify that, after this operation, the profile ejects the blank -sign which in the meantime remains trapped in the support and that, during this ejection, 'any burrs due to cutting are also removed. The cycle then resumes indefinitely according to the rhythm described.
It is interesting to note that the three main elements are the advancement device 9, the support: of profile 10 and the working unit carrying the cutter 3, and that these can be adjusted and exchanged independently of each other. .
It is possible, for example, to standardize; the spacing and the diameter of the feet so as not to have to modify the setting of, the machining unit carrying: the cutter and so as to require only the replacement of the support of profile if one wishes to machine successively signs having different cross sections.
On the other hand, the height of the desired reliefs can be adjusted very quickly simply by adjusting the advancement device, conversely for a given profile one can very quickly modify the dimensions and the spacing of the feet only by working with the device. 'machining.
It is also possible to conceive of a method similar to that given above by way of example, but in which the cutter is replaced by a rotating chisel.
On the other hand, the process can also be applied using a bar turning machine specially equipped with an oriented headstock stop and an auxiliary movable axial milling device, the cutting of the blank of the sign can then be carried out by chisel sinking. , the profile then being driven in a rotational movement.
This way of doing things requires limiting the length of the profiled rods, given that they quickly turn around their longitudinal axis during cutting.
Fig. 3 represents a particular sign obtained when performing: the machining of the feet 5 and 7, by moving a tool along axes 4 and 6 oblique with respect to the axis 15 of the profile. This process makes it possible to obtain relief signs having a very particular and original shape. On the other hand, it is also possible, before cutting the blank of the sign, to carry out, with the aid of auxiliary machining units, faceting or termination operations of the sign.
For example, in the case of the sign of FIG. 3, one can very well, before sectioning the sign, perform two milling operations so as to obtain the facets 16A and 16B, the sign remaining linked to the profile only by: the section 17 which can be faceted during the cutting if the latter is carried out with a diamond bur. This additional possibility makes it possible to envisage the manufacture of protruding relief signs which are practically completed after the operations according to the method described above.
Fig. 4 shows an execution detail characterized in that, before the operation of machining a foot, a stitching is performed in the surface forming the end of the foot so as to obtain, when the foot 4 is finished , a precise height 18 for the foot and, on the other hand, a very thin collar of the end of the foot coming to deform against the underside of the dial plate during the riveting of the sign, this so that the foot does not protrude from the lower surface of the dial and that the latter remains perfectly clean and without protuberance.
It should be specified that the machining by removing material around the foot can be carried out, independently of the shapes described by turning or by milling, by any other means contributing to the same goal, for example by grinding or possibly by electroerosion, this last point being however mentioned only for technical interest, because it would not be of a yield justifying the complications necessitated by its application.
