Sealing ring part The main patent relates to an O-ring sealing part for fluids under pressure; it is expected that this part comprises studs oriented on either side of its median plane, preferably perpendicular to the latter.
As explained in the specification of this patent, the cross section of the annular sealing part is s-shaped, generally a circle, but it can also be an ellipse, an oval, etc.
The sealing parts thus modified have confirmed in practice a long period of use resulting from the effect of scraping the oil produced by the wavy pattern imposed on the annular part in its housing.
In view of the excellent results obtained, it has proved advantageous to extend the same arrangements to all the annular sealing parts made of flexible material, even elastic, each attached between two cylindrical elements with relative displacements, one of the elements comprising a annular groove for housing the ring.
The annular parts thus modified have also shown a markedly increased service life.
The present invention relates to an annular part for sealing fluids under pressure, tinée to be mounted in a groove, comprising studs oriented on either side of the median plane of the part in the rest position, the height and the distribution of the studs being such that once in place in the groove, said sealing part follows a wavy path on either side of the median plane of the part at rest, characterized in that the cross section of the part between two studs is a non-circular surface, the studs being distributed so as to leave the piece free to move and deform while ensuring its sealing function.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, a few shape profiles .D'execution of the annular sealing part according to the invention.
The <U> fi-. </U> 1 recalls the position adopted by such an annular part after it has been placed in a groove formed between two parts between which there is a relative angular movement, as was explained in the main patent.
Fig. 2 shows an annular part whose section is substantially a square.
It suffices to place the pins on the median circumference of the upper and lower faces of such an annular part so that the latter can play its normal sealing role as well as that of scraping the oil.
Figs. 3 and 4 show annular parts, the cross section of which is that of an X; the outline of the section on the fi-. 3 has recti-line parts and curvilinear parts, while in FIG. 4 the contour is entirely curvilinear.
The annular piece of the fia. 4 is known in the trade under the name of QUAD'RING> seal.
The annular parts are fig. 3 and 4 must be able to move and extend in their housing under the action of the fluid pressure so as to ensure tightness. They must not get stuck or be subjected to excessive friction to perform this role in a sustainable way. It was found that the function of these sealing parts was not altered when the studs 3 are arranged as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 in the hollow, upper and lower concavities; each stud can also be symmetrically split into two elements 3 attached to the convex beads 9 (fig. 7).
The fi-. 5 and 6 show annular parts, the section of which is that of a bowl, but in FIG. 6, the bowl is oriented at 90 relative to the bowl of FIG. 5.
The annular part of FIG. 5 has relatively high nipples 3 arranged in the bottom of the bowl. In the case of the annular part shown in fia. 6, it was found that the nipples had to be deported towards the solid part of the annular part. The lips 11 of the cup can thus main hold their sealing role following a path one dule against the side wall facing in their housing.
All these annular parts, whatever their cross section, bear nipples 3 at the locations mentioned in the main patent.
More generally, we can say that if the cross section of the annular part is symmetrical with respect to an axis perpendicular to the main plane of the annular part, the pins are placed on the upper and lower median circumferences of the ring. ; alternatively, each stud can be replaced by a pair of two elements arranged symmetrically with respect to the median circumference concerned (fig. 2 to 5 and 7).
In the case where the section is not symmetrical with respect to an axis perpendicular to the plane of the annular part, each stud is offset towards the solid region of the section (fig. 6).
