B. etwa 2 : 1 be trägt.

Process for dyeing or printing polyester fibers It is known to dye or print polyester fibers by applying aqueous pigment preparations and subsequent dry heat treatment.
It has now been found that this method can be used particularly favorably if such aqueous preparations are used which, in addition to the pigment and advantageously a thickener, contain an auxiliary which is able to form a coacervated system with pure water or water containing additives.
The present invention thus relates to a process for dyeing or printing polyester fibers by applying aqueous pigment preparations to the fibers and subsequent dry heat treatment, characterized in that such an aqueous pigment preparation is used which, in addition to the pigment, contains a coacervate-forming auxiliary , whereby the quantitative ratio between the auxiliary and the pure water or water containing additives is chosen so
that coacervation occurs and that the phase richer in auxiliaries makes up at least 20% of the aqueous preparation.
Coacervation is understood to mean the separation of a colloidal solution of a hydrophilic colloid into two liquid phases, the phase richer in body being referred to as the coacervate and the phase poorer in the body as the equilibrium fluid. Separation can be promoted by adding electrolytes or other suitable substances. The coacervate is now characterized in that little colloid contains a relatively large amount of dissolved water. As a result, it is possible, with a small amount of a coacervating agent, to form a substantially larger layer of auxiliary agents than corresponds to the amount of auxiliary agent used.
Substances that - such. B. butanol or benzyl alcohol - do not meet this condition, because when the amount increases above the saturation point, the proportion of. The phase in the overall system that is rich in resources only increases slowly, for example in a flat, approximately linear progression, are not considered for the present method.
In general, it is expedient if the layer richer in auxiliaries is 20 to 60% of the two-phase system.
The polyester fibers are preferably products made from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, optionally mixed with other nitrogen-free fibers, such as cotton.
Pigments which can be used as dyes are those which can be used per se for dyeing or printing polyester fibers by the method specified at the beginning. In particular, linkable pigments come into consideration, which can belong to the indigoid or the anthraquinone series. It is advisable to use the pigments in a fine distribution.
For the dyeing of mixed fabrics made of polyester fibers and other nitrogen-free fibers, in addition to the pigments, the usual dyes for the other fibers are used, z. B. for cellulose fibers direct dyes.
If the pigment is incorporated into a two-phase system within the gap in the mixture, it is largely or practically completely absorbed by the phase which is richer in auxiliaries when it is stirred. This two-phase system, which consists essentially of water, the auxiliary and the dye, can generally be homogenized without the addition of emulsifiers by stirring in such a way that a statistically uniform preparation that is stable enough for the period of use is obtained, which now fits into the Way must be applied to the fiber material.
By adding a small amount or the amount of thickening agent, preferably sodium alginate, which is necessary for printing purposes, the resistance of the preparations with regard to homogeneous mixing can be increased.
As aids which meet the above conditions, which are therefore capable of coacervation and are therefore particularly suitable for the present process, especially hydrophilic, colloidal solutions, in particular surface-active substances, come into consideration. The reaction products of higher molecular weight fatty acids and oxyalkylamines, and optionally ethylene oxide, may be mentioned as examples.
You can, for example, without using ethylene oxide, produce such products from higher molecular weight fatty acids, preferably those with about 12 carbon atoms, and oxyalkylamines, such as triethanolamine or preferably diethanolamine, the reaction being carried out in such a way that the molecular ratio between oxyalkylamine and fatty acid is greater than 1 is e.g. B. about 2: 1 be. Such compounds are described in American Patent No. 2,089,212.
Also in the production of auxiliaries from fatty acids and oxyalkylamines with the inclusion of ethylene oxide, it is generally useful if the ratio between the conversion achieved oxyalkylamine and the conversion achieved higher molecular weight fatty acid is greater than 1, z. B. is about 2: 1. The ethylene oxide is advantageously dimensioned so that the molecular ratio between the fatty acid used for conversion and the ethylene oxide used for conversion is about 1: 2 to 1:15.
The order of the reactions of the three starting materials, namely the fatty acid, the oxyalkylamine and the ethylene oxide, is in itself arbitrary. For example, valuable results can be achieved if one of the above-mentioned reaction products of a fatty acid and an oxyalkylamine is subsequently added with ethylene oxide.
But you can also add ethylene oxide to a fatty acid oxyalkyl amide, as it is obtainable by reacting a fatty acid with an oxyalkylamine in a molecular ratio of 1: 1, and the adduct obtained, advantageously again in a molecular ratio of 1: 1, with an oxyalkylamine. Good results can also be achieved if, instead of carrying out the last-mentioned reaction (this is expediently carried out at elevated temperature, e.g.
B. at 130 to 160 C, for a few hours), the addition product of fatty acid alkylolamide and ethylene oxide simply adds an oxyalkylamine.
Even in the case of the auxiliaries to be produced with the use of ethylene oxide, fatty acids such. B. caprylic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and especially coconut fatty acid into consideration, and suitable oxyalkylamines are triethanolamine, dioxyethylethylenediamine and especially diethanolamine, and also mixtures of these amines.
Particularly preferred auxiliaries are the product obtainable from 1 mole of coconut fatty acid and 2 moles of diethanolamine with elimination of about 1 mole of water and the product obtained by the addition of 2 moles of ethylene oxide to 1 mole of coconut fatty acid (di-oxyethyl) amide and reaction of the addition product with diethanolamine in a molecular ratio of 1: 1 is obtained.
Addition products of ethylene oxide with higher molecular weight fatty acids, higher molecular weight aliphatic alcohols, alkylphenols, higher molecular weight alkyl mercaptans or higher molecular weight aliphatic amines can also be used as auxiliaries in the present process.
Instead of the addition products made from ethylene oxide, the corresponding reaction products made from polyethylene glycol compounds can also be used in some cases.
The auxiliaries, which have one of the above-circumscribed compositions, tend in and of themselves to form a two-phase system with water, and this property can be significantly enhanced by suitable additives, such as acetic acid and / or sodium chloride, so that it is easy to use succeeds in obtaining a system with an advantageous miscibility gap within the meaning of the above statements.
The preparations which can be used according to the invention can now be applied to the fiber material in a manner known per se, expediently continuously, e.g. B. in roller or film printing or also advantageously on the padder, with very little time required.
However, immersion and subsequent suction or throwing off of the excess impregnating liquid can also be considered.
The temperature of the liquor in the padder can fluctuate within wide limits, for example from room temperature to 80 C.
After the impregnation or printing of the Fa ser with the two-phase system, the heat fixation is carried out by dry heat, eg. B. at about 200 C, is performed. As a rule, you go to the fixing room with pre-dried goods.
Following the fixation, cleaning is indicated to remove excess, unfixed dye, thickeners and remaining auxiliaries. This cleaning is usually done by a treatment in a warm bath that contains a surface-active detergent. In some cases, especially if the fiber material has been printed or dyed with vettable pigments, it is advisable to add sodium hydroxide solution and sodium hydrosulfite to the cleaning liquor in addition to the detergent.
In the example below, the parts mean parts by weight and the percentages mean percentages by weight. <I> Example </I> A. With a printing ink consisting of <B> 150 </B> parts of a fine aqueous dispersion that contains 20% of the dye of the formula
EMI0003.0010
contains 40 parts of the auxiliary, the preparation of which is described below, 600 parts of alginate thickening 50: 1000 and 210 parts of water, a fabric made of polyester fibers is printed.
After drying, the fabric is exposed to a temperature of 205 C for 60 seconds, then rinsed thoroughly with cold water, then treated at 70 to 80 C for 10 minutes in an aqueous bath containing 3 g of 30% sodium hydroxide per liter - solution, 2 g of sodium hydrosulfite and 0,
Contains 5 g of an adduct of 8 moles of ethylene oxide to 1 mole of oleylamine, rinsed again with cold water and net getrock. The yellow print obtained in this way is distinguished by its strong color tone.
Instead of the fine dispersion of the dye of the above formula, that of the dye of the formula
EMI0003.0028
or one of the dye of the formula
EMI0003.0029
be used.
The aid is prepared as follows: 330 g of coconut fatty acid (1.5 mol), 345 g of diethanolamine (3.35 mol) and 1.5 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid are placed in a 1 liter round bottom flask with a descending condenser and receiver. The air in the flask is displaced by nitrogen and it is heated to an internal temperature of 160 to 165 ° C. It is kept at this temperature until 27 to 28 g of water have been collected in the ice-cooled template (1.5 mol), which is the case after about 4 hours.
After cooling, 644 to 645 g of a pale brown liquid which is completely soluble in water is obtained.
600 g of the product are then mixed with the amount of about 12 g of glacial acetic acid and 1 to 2 g of a silicone-based antifoam to be determined in a preliminary test. The amount of glacial acetic acid can vary somewhat from experiment to experiment and is determined as follows: 4 g of the product are poured into 100 cm3 of distilled water in a cylinder with a ground-glass stopper. Dissolved water, a completely clear, highly viscous solution being formed.
10% acetic acid is added dropwise from a burette in such a way that 0.5 cm3 is first added. At the point where it was dripped in, it becomes cloudy, which disappears completely after shaking the cylinder.
Acetic acid is added in portions of 0.1 cm3 and shaken after each addition until the solution remains very cloudy. As a rule, about 0.8 cm3 of 10% acetic acid are required for this, resulting in the above-mentioned value of 12 g of glacial acetic acid.
The preparation obtained is now tested by again adding 4 g to 100 cm3 of distilled water. Water dissolves. The solution obtained should be opaque. When standing, droplets of oil should slowly excrete and slowly cream. After standing for about 24 hours, an oily layer forms which makes up 40 to 60% of the total liquid.
If the 4% solution is only slightly cloudy, then another 1.6 g of glacial acetic acid is added to the preparation and checked again.
B. The auxiliaries whose preparation is described in the following can also be used for the process according to the invention.
n) Proceed as described at the end of A, but only heat until 21g of water have been split off.
b) Proceed as described at the end of A, but heat until 31g of water have split off.
c) 110 g of coconut fatty acid (0.5 mol), 165 g (1.1 mol) of triethanolamine and 0.5 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid are added to a 500 cm3 flask with a stirrer, thermometer and descending condenser for 9 hours Maintained at 160 to 165 C.
The preparation obtained is slightly cloudy in water, but completely homogeneously soluble.
200 g of the preparation are mixed with 12.5 g of glacial acetic acid. In a z. B. 4% solution after a short time, oily drops separate, which cream.
The stated amount of acetic acid is preferably determined again by preliminary tests in a manner similar to that described under A. The formation of the two-phase system can also be recognized by the fact that streaking appears when the solution is shaken.
d) In a 1-liter flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and descending condenser, 420 g of technical oleic acid (1.5 mol), 346 g of diethanolamine (3.35 mol) and 1.5 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid are so under nitrogen Maintained at 160 to 165 C for a long time until 27 to 28 cm3 of water have collected in the ice-cooled receiver.
740 g of the reaction product are obtained. The aqueous solutions of this product are slightly cloudy.
e) Likewise useful products are obtained by condensation of 1 mol of stearic acid with 2
