<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Control device for oil burners The invention relates to a control device for oil burners for hot water heating mixes a heat-sensitive control element influenced by the return temperature of the water or the room temperature. The control unit is used in particular for bowl burners with and without a fan. In known control devices of this type, the oil and air supply to the burner is not regulated continuously, they only work in two positions, a maximum position with a large flame and a minimum position with a very small flame.
In addition, these devices require a second element in the form of a safety thermostat that completely cuts off the oil supply to the burner if the maximum permissible temperature is exceeded.
These disadvantages are not present in the control device according to the invention. This is characterized in that the heat-sensitive control element is in drive connection against the adjustable pressure of a spring with a two-armed lever, which is articulated to a second lever, so that both levers form a toggle lever that can be bent beyond the dead point, and the two-armed lever is in drive connection with control means that continuously regulate the air and oil supply to the burner when the toggle lever is not bent, while additional control means are in drive connection with the two-armed lever,
which completely interrupt the oil supply to the burner when the toggle lever is in the bent position. In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown. The figure shows a longitudinal section through the housing of a control device for an oil burner of a hot water heating system and, in a schematic representation, the control means actuated by the control device, with all parts that are not necessary to explain the mode of operation being omitted.
In a housing 5 is a temperature-sensitive organ in the form of an elastic bellows. 3, which is connected to a temperature sensor 7 via a line 6. The structure of this temperature-sensitive organ is in itself. :known. The sensor 7, the line 6 and the bellows 3 are filled with bromine ether, for example.
When the sensor 7 is heated, the bellows 3 expands, so that the rod 8 attached to it moves to the right in the drawing. The sensor 7 is preferably arranged in the return line of the water, but could also, for. B. be arranged at a suitable location in one of the heated rooms.
The rod 8 is articulated to an intermediate lever 10, which is pivotably mounted about an axis 9 fixed to the housing. A spring 4 acts on an extension 10a of the intermediate lever 10, the pretensioning of which can be changed by a screw 11. The spring 4 counteracts the expansion of the bellows 3. Depending on the bias of the spring 4 set by the screw 11, the response temperature of the control device changes. The screw 11 is thus used to set the desired temperature of the heating system.
The pivoting movement of the intermediate lever 10 is transmitted via an adjusting screw 12 to a two-armed lever 1, which is also pivotable about the axis 9. The shorter arm of the lever 1 is articulated to a second lever 2 so that both levers together form one. Form toggle lever 16 which can be bent beyond the Toblage.
With the lever 2, a support lever 13 is articulated, which runs approximately at right angles to the lever 2 and is hinged to the housing 5. A spring 15 which can be pre-machined by means of a screw 14 exerts a pressure
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in the longitudinal direction of the lever 2 and causes the lever 1 in the drawn normal position always to rest on the screw 12, and that it can no longer automatically return to its normal position when the toggle lever 16 is bent upwards once.
The longer arm of the lever 1 protrudes through a slot 17 from the housing 5 and is connected to control means which are only shown schematically and are described in more detail below.
A float housing 18 is arranged below the housing 1. An oil supply line 19 opens into this, the opening of which can be closed by a needle valve 20. The needle valve 20 is controlled by a float 21 which, via a lever arm 22, presses the needle valve 20 onto the mouth of the line 19 as soon as the amount of oil in the float housing 18 has reached a certain level. In the float housing 18 there is also an outlet line 23 with a conical mouth 24, the upper edge of which lies somewhat below the oil level controlled by the float 21.
A conical body 25 engages in the conical mouth 24 and is guided on a rod 26 so as to be vertically displaceable. Depending on its position relative to the mouth 24, the body 25 throttles the ohnenge flowing through the line 23 to the oil burner 27. A spring 28 tends to always pull the body 25 completely out of the mouth 24. The upper end of the rod 26 protrudes from the float housing 18 and is connected to a lever 29 which is articulated on the housing 5 and is pulled downward by a spring 30 against the pressure of the spring 28.
The spring 30 is stronger than the spring 28, so that the body 25 is urged into its closed position by the spring 30. However, when the lever 29 is pivoted upwards, the rod 26 with the body 25 follows it.
The lever 29 has a bore 31 through which a rod 32 engages, which at its lower end has a thickening 33 on which the lever 29 rests. At its upper end, the lever 32 is articulated to your lever 1. A rod 34 is also articulated on the lever 1, which is connected via a further rod 35 to an air flap 36 which is rotatable about an axis 38 and more or less closes the suction opening 37 of the oil burner 27, which is only shown schematically.
The shorter arm of the lever 1 is also connected via a rod 39 to a two-armed lever 40, which engages in the float housing 18 and is pivotable about an axis 41 in such a way that it rest on the lever 22 and press the needle valve 20 into its closed position, can.
If the oil burner is equipped with an electric fan, an extension 40a can be arranged on the lever 40, which opens an electric switch 42 arranged in the power supply to the fan when the lever 40 pushes the needle valve 20 into its closed position.
The. The control unit works as follows: A certain temperature is set on the screw 11. If a temperature increase occurs at the temperature sensor 7, the bellows 3 expands due to the increase in volume of its contents. As a result, he pushes the shorter arm of the lever 1 upwards via the elements 8, 10 and 12. This causes the longer arm of the lever 1 to move downwards. This causes, on the one hand, a rotation of the air flap 36 in the sense of throttling the combustion air and, on the other hand, a lowering of the body 25 in the conical mouth 24, which also throttles the oil supply to the burner. This makes the flame of the burner smaller, which results in a temperature decrease in the circulating water.
Conversely, if the water temperature at the sensor 7 drops, the bellows 3 contracts, which results in greater opening of the air flap and the body 25, that is to say an enlargement of the burner flame. The regulation of the air and oil supply to the burner is therefore completely stepless and continuous.
If a temperature occurs at the sensor 7 that is above the permissible normal range, the bellows 3 expands so much that the toggle lever 16 is pushed beyond its dead position. Under the action of the spring 15 it then snaps up. The rod 39 pulls the right arm of the lever 40 upwards. The left arm 40b then pushes the needle valve 20 into its closed position and the extension 40 opens the contacts of the switch 42, whereby the fan of the burner is switched off. The oil supply and the air supply to the burner 27 are completely interrupted.
Buckling of the toggle lever 16 only occurs in emergencies. Once it has occurred, the levers 1, 2 must be brought back into their normal position with the joint 16 pushed down by hand or by means of a push button (not shown).
If the oil burner does not have a fan, no switch 42 is fitted. In this case, the device works independently of a power source.
