Les fig. 1 et 2 sont respectivement une vue de face de ladite forme d'exécution de la machine et un schéma illustrant la commande et le fonctionne ment de cette machine ; la fig. 3 est un détail en coupe du régulateur de vitesse de la machine et de ses moyens de com mande, la coupe étant prise dans un plan contenant la ligne 3-3 de la fig. 4 ; la fig. 4 est une coupe par le plan 4-4 de la fig. 3 ;
The present invention relates to a machine for cutting toothed wheels by generation.
In the generation size method, for example as practiced for the size of bevel and hypoid toothed wheels, the tool represents a tooth of the generator wheel running in engagement with the wheel to be cut or grinded. According to this process, it is ensured that the surface described by the cutting edge of the tool, which cutting edge is usually rec tilinear, envelops the surface of the curved profile of the tooth to be cut. If the generator size is carried out at a constant speed, the feed, or rate of penetration of the tool into the workpiece, varies greatly, causing the extreme edge of the tool to be subjected to a load. exaggeratedly high during the initial pruning stage.
Conversely, if it is ensured that the rate of penetration of the tool into the work is constant, in order to ensure a longer working life of the tool, the generation rate must vary. It is preferable that the cutting speed of the tool is kept constant. Up to this day, it has been common practice to use the same motor to operate the tool and to effect the generation movement and, in order to achieve the desired variation in the generation rate, of action. drive the generator train using a cam (or equivalent speed variation device) driven by the engine.
However, the most advantageous variation in the generation rate differs from one type of toothed wheel to another so that for the best results a series of different cams would be required. These cams are unfortunately relatively large in size, besides being expensive and they are necessarily mounted in the machine so that their replacement is so difficult that it is only possible in very special cases. for example when the machine is to be used only for the size of a single model of toothed wheel for a long period of time.
It is, therefore, only in such cases that maximum cutting efficiency by the machine is ordinarily achieved.
The machine, object of the invention, aims to overcome this difficulty. It comprises a tool and its support, a rotating workpiece shaft and its support, a gear train serving to perform generation movements which include the rotation of said shaft including said support and, simultaneously with this movement, a rotation of the two supports one with respect to the other, a motor used to actuate the generator train, a device used to vary the speed of the motor, a cam driven by the motor and a cam follower roller connected to this device for the 'to actuate in such a way that this variation of speed is effected while the generation movements follow.
The latter device should be of a type suitable for varying the voltage applied to the motor, for example a variable voltage autotransformer, and in a particular embodiment of the machine the control device comprises a cam working in synchronism with the generator train. This cam may be small in size, inexpensive and form part of a set of interchangeable cams, each of which is particularly suited to the gear size of a particular model or of a series of similar models.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine.
Figs. 1 and 2 are respectively a front view of said embodiment of the machine and a diagram illustrating the control and operation of this machine; fig. 3 is a sectional detail of the speed regulator of the machine and its control means, the section being taken in a plane containing the line 3-3 of FIG. 4; fig. 4 is a section through the plane 4-4 of FIG. 3;
figs. 5 and 6 are diagrams illustrating successive positions of the cutting tools during cutting by generation of two bevel gears, the pitch angle of which is small and large respectively; fig. 7 is a diagram of the working cycle of the machine; fig. 8 is a circuit diagram of the speed regulating device provided for the variable speed motor.
The embodiment of the machine shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a frame 10 supporting a tool holder cradle 11 which rotates about a horizontal axis 12, the tools being designated by T and T '. The toothed wheel to be cut G, which is in the present case a bevel pinion, is mounted on a workpiece shaft 13 rotating about an axis 14, also horizontal, in a workpiece head 15 which is rectilinearly adjustable. on the frame 10 along the axis 14 on an oscillating base 16, which in turn is angularly adjustable on a neck support 17 smoothing about a vertical axis 18 which intersects at the same point the axes 12 and 14.
This smoothing support is adjustable and it is movable to allow the advance of the part relative to the tools, rectilinearly on the frame 10 in the direction of the axis 12 of the cradle. Thanks to these various adjustments, the som met of the cone of the part G can be made to coincide with the point of intersection of the axes 12, 14 and 18.
In operation, the cradle 11 is driven by an oscillating movement around the axis 12, in synchronism with the rotation of the shaft 13, around the axis 14, by a generator train receiving its command. 'a motor 19 by means of angle gears 21, of gears 22 modifying the rolling rate and of angle gears 23. The generator train comprises a main shaft 24, spur gears 25, gears of angle 26, a shaft 27, a cam 28, an elbow lever 29 which oscillates the cam 28 and a connecting rod 31 pivotably connecting the elbow lever 29 to the cradle 11, the arrangement being such that, at each revolution of the shaft 27 and the cam 28, the cradle oscillates alternately in one direction and then in the other around its axis 12.
The profile of the cam 28 is such that the oscillating movement (or generating bearing of the cradle) during which the pruning takes place is in a constant speed ratio with the rotations of the shafts 24, 27 and that the return bearing s 'performs at a higher speed, although not constant.
An advance cam 32 carried by the shaft 27 is intended to act in a conventional manner, by means of means not shown, to advance the sliding base in order to cause the wheel to be cut. to the cutting position during the initial period of the generator bearing of the cradle and to recall the slide, to bring the part away from the tools, during the final period of said generator bearing. The generator train further comprises angle pinions 33, an upper shaft 34, angle pinions 35, a shaft 36, angle pinions 37, division change pinions 38, a shaft 39 and angle pinions 41, the controlled element of which is carried by the workpiece shaft 13.
Thanks to the dis position described, the part-dividing movement is effected by the uninterrupted rotation of the part-holder shaft during the return bearing of the cradle, so that, during each of the successive generator bearings, the tools T, T 'dig one of the hollows or spaces separating the following teeth of the wheel to be cut, although the hollow thus cut is usually not the hollow or space which directly follows the previous one.
In the embodiment shown, a motor 42 drives the tools by means of angle pinions 43, pinions 44 allowing the speed of the tool to be changed, a shaft 45 arranged along the axis 12 of the cradle, angle gears 46, shafts 47, angle gears 48, shafts 49, angle gears 51, toothed wheels 52 and crankshafts 53. These latter shafts are intended for to rotate the tools alternately in one direction and in the opposite direction and, by means of mechanisms not shown, to cause alternately the advance and retreat of the pivot axes of the tools, so that each tool of one pair performs trimming during the back-empty swing of the other tool.
These mechanisms are arranged inside tool-holder housings 54 which are adjustable on the cradle 11 in such a way that the tools T and T 'can represent a tooth of a generator wheel of all the dimensions and shapes included. in the working capacity of the machine. To this end, the shafts 49, 49 and the pinions 48, 48 are adjustable, together with their respective heads 54, radially and angularly with respect to the cradle.
In operation, the size by the tools is carried out while the cam 28 communicates its generator bearing to the cradle around its axis 12 and while the part G rotates simultaneously. On completion of the generator bearing, the cam 32 acts so as to recall the sliding base 17 and thus to bring said part away from the tools. The return bearing of the cradle then takes place and, during this rolling, the part continues its rotation, thus bringing a following tooth hollow to the desired position for the size which takes place during the next generator rolling of the cradle. .
Upon completion of the return bearing, cam 32 advances the sliding pedestal, which returns the trimming wheel to the trimming position, in preparation for the next generation bearing. The described cycle is repeated until all the hollows of the workpiece or wheel to be cut have been cut by generation.
In the case of an angle pinion or bevel gear with a low taper and a small number of teeth, the curvature of the profile of the teeth is relatively large, as shown in FIG. 5, whereas, in the opposite case (large angle and high number of teeth), the profile of the teeth is only slightly curved, as shown in fig. 6.
In fig. 5, while the size is being cut, the cutting tools T, T ', the outline of the composite profile of which has been shown, occupy the successive positions with respect to a tooth hollow during cutting, which have been indicated in <I> a, b, c, d </I> and e, these positions being reached while the cradle rolls around axis 12 and the part rotates around axis 14 s 'accomplished by successive equal angular displacements from the start of pruning up to half of the generation.
In the example shown, the extreme edge or tip t of the profile of the tool penetrates the hollow of the teeth in increments which gradually decrease for equal increments of the relative movement of generation, the feed being maximum from a to b and minimum from d to e (central position). The active surfaces of the teeth are cut by the side edges s and s' of the tools, but although the cutting starts at position <I> a, </I> it is only at position <I> f , </I> indicated by dashed lines, that the edge s begins to generate the profile p of the finished tooth. It is only a little beyond the position e that the opposite edge s 'starts to cut by generation the opposite tooth profile p'.
Generation and size are complete and part withdrawal can begin when the cutting edges 'are tangent to the highest point of the profile p', this being the position of the tools indicated by the dashed line g, which is l 'inverse, or symmetrical, of the position f. In this example, the generation of the tooth area between positions f and g is a large fraction of the total generator bearing (ranging from a to g) that is allocated to size. From position e to position g, the size is effected only by the lateral edge s' and by the rounded angle, between s and t, which generates the curve r of the fillet of the root.
Similarly, during the cutting of a toothed wheel with a large taper and a high number of teeth, as shown in FIG. 6, the rate of advance of the extreme edge t decreases while the generating rolling of the cradle and the workpiece is carried out from position a'-b 'to position c'-d' and up to the central position generation é.
However, the part of the bearing devoted to the actual generation of the tooth surface is much smaller than in the case shown in fig. 5, given that, while the size is carried out from position a 'to position g', where the lateral cutting edge is tangent to the tooth profile pg 'at the top of said profile, the generation of profiles <I > pg </I> and <I> p g '</I> only take place during the movement from position f' to position g '.
It has been determined empirically that when the generating rolling has taken place during about three quarters of its angular amplitude between the start of the pruning (position <I> a </I> or d) and the center or middle position of generation e or e ', that is to say when it is carried out approximately until the position <I> d </I> or <I> d', </I> the advance rate edge t is low enough to prevent the risk of tool tip damage when the rolling rate reaches the maximum allowable for tooth flank generation p '<I> or p g' </I> and for the bearing back.
Therefore, in order to allow trimming to be carried out in the minimum time without the risk of damage to the end of the tools, it is important that the rolling rate be minimum at the position <I> a < / I> or <I> a '</I> and that it accelerates, from this position, to the maximum, at the position <I> d </I> or <I> d' . </I> It should however be noted that, in the case represented by FIG. 5, the rolling angle X at which the acceleration should take place from position a to position d is approximately half of the total rolling angle, denoted by Y, at which takes place the size, while in the case of fig. 6,
the corresponding angle X 'in which it is important that the rate of roll increase from position <I> a' </I> to position <I> d ', </I> is a much larger fraction of the total angle Y 'from s' to g'. To resolve these various problems, the machine has been provided with the device, which will now be described, serving to vary the speed of the motor 19.
As shown in fig. 2, 3 and 4, a worm 101, fixed to the main shaft 24 of the generator train drives a worm wheel 102 keyed to one of the ends of a shaft 103 pivoting in the frame 10. At the opposite end of the shaft 103 is removably attached a discoid cam 104, which may be one of the elements of a set of interchangeable cams. A cam roller 105 is carried by a lever 106 pivoting on the frame about an axis 107.
A spring 108 connecting this lever to the frame constantly urges said lever in the dextrorsum direction of FIG. 4 around the axis 107, so as to hold the roller against the cam. The lever 106 carries a toothed sector 109 which meshes with a pinion 111 fixed to the shaft 112 of a variable voltage autotransformer 113 mounted on the frame and constituting, in this embodiment, the device provided for varying engine speed 19.
The winding of the auto-transformer 113 is connected to lines L1 and L2 from a suitable source of alternating current; and in the secondary circuit of the auto-transformer, which comprises a contact finger 114 carried by the shaft 112, a current rectifier 115 is mounted. The motor 19 is connected to the positive and negative direct current junctions of this rectifier.
The arrangement is such that, when the cam 104 rotates in the dextrorsum direction (in FIG. 4) its peripheral portion between the points 116 and 117 acts on the roller 105 so as to impart a sinistrorsum rotation to the lever 106, this which rotates the shaft 112. The finger 114 thereby performs a movement, along the transformer winding, in the desired direction, to increase the number of turns of said winding that the secondary circuit comprises and, consequently, the direct current voltage applied to the motor 19, which accelerates the angular movement of the generator train comprising the main shaft 24.
This angular speed of the train remains constant, at its maximum value, given that the rest part of the cam which goes from point 117 to point 118 in the sinistrorsum direction passes below said cam roller. Then, when it is the part of said cam going from point 118 to point 116 which becomes active, the shaft 112 receives a sinistrorsum rotation, which decreases the angular speed of the generator train. The transmission ratios used in the machine are such that the cam 104 performs one revolution for each revolution of the cradle bearing cam 28.
It can thus be seen that the cam 104 and the cam roller 105 constitute a device which works in syn chronism with the generator train to actuate the auto-transformer and thus varies the speed of rotation of the cradle and of the workpiece-holder shaft. during the generation of the gear teeth.
The curve of FIG. 7 shows the relationship that exists between this speed variation and the angular position of the cam 28 during a complete revolution of the latter. The shape of the cam 28 and its angular position on the shaft 27 are such that said cam performs the return rolling of the cradle during a minor fraction of its revolution, while the part of the cam 104 which goes - in the sinistrorsum direction - from point 119 to point 121 is active, and that it performs the generator rolling during the remaining major fraction of its revolution, the part of this cam which goes in the sinistrorsum direction from point 121 to point <B> 119 </ B > (119 'on the curve)
being then active. During most of the upward rolling, that is to say between points 116 and 122 of the curve, the rotation communicated to the cradle by the cam 28 is in a constant speed ratio with the rotation of the generator train. comprising the workpiece shaft 13, although, due to the variable speed of the motor 19, its speed varies in absolute value.
As large a fraction as possible of the constant speed ratio fraction of the generator bearing is used for the size, the whole preferably being used except for the fraction between points 123 and 122, which is used. for the movement of withdrawal of the sliding base 17, the fraction between points 116 and <B> 123 </B> therefore being available for the size.
For the size of a toothed wheel with a small taper angle and number of teeth (conditions shown in fig. 5) where the rolling angle occurring during cutting (from a to d) is approx. matively half of the total roll angle (from a to g), the cam 104 receives a shape such that the point <B> 117 </B> (where the acceleration of the generator train ends) is located at mid -distance between points 116 and 123.
However, for the size of toothed wheels having a medium taper angle (miter gears or the like) and having a medium number of teeth, the cam 104 is replaced with a cam of a different shape, so that the period of acceleration is accelerated. tion is extended to a point 117 ', as represented by the dotted line in FIG. 7.
Moreover, in the case of toothed wheels having a high taper and a high number of teeth, as shown in FIG. 6, the cam 104 can still be replaced by another cam in order to extend the acceleration period, as indicated by the dashed line, up to point 117 ". When the machine is called upon to be used for Because of the relatively small numbers of sprockets in a single model, a set of three cams will usually be sufficient to effect, with reasonable efficiency, the size of the entire set of wheels that can be cut on the machine.
However, if it comes to getting a very large amount of wheels. of any model, it may be preferable, in view of maximum efficiency, to establish a special cam 104 whose shape is such that the points corresponding to the points <B> 116 </B> and 1-17 where the acceleration begins and ends occupy the most favorable positions, in accordance with the principles previously set out.
