L'invention a.

Le mode d'exécution de la machine re présentée sur les fig. 4 à 8 comporte (fig. 4) un bâti 1 sur lequel sont montés, d'une part, le flan 2 en rotation continue -sur son cha riot 3 coulissant sur le bâti 1 avec la vitesse v et, d'autre part, le bâti-support 4 coulis sant perpendiculairement au déplacement du chariot 3;
Process for cutting straight and helical teeth and device for its implementation. The present invention relates to a method and a device for cutting straight and helical teeth in cylindrical wheels.
There are a number of gear-cutting machines which apply the process of cutting by involute generation, and using, as the cutting tool, a rack comprising prismatic-shaped cutting teeth, the edges of the prism being parallel to the axes of the gear. the gear.
This cutting process consists essentially in placing the cutting tool on a support organ driven by a determined recti-line movement; on this support, the tool moves according to any law of time, moreover, perpendicular to the blank to be cut and its cutting edge has the geometrical locus of the surface of its creating tooth.
Assuming the cutting has been carried out, we obtain a gear formed by a cut wheel meshing correctly with the rack described above; and it is convenient to define said gear by the primitive surfaces of the blank of the cut wheel and of the cut wheel which are, respectively, a cylinder and a plane.
It is shown that if the blank is rotated in such a way that its primitive surface rolls without slipping on the primitive plane of the rack, the surface described by the cutting tool generates in the blank a conjugate surface, envelope of the first, these two surfaces thus achieving the correct meshing conditions.
This presentation makes it possible to realize that in any cutting machine by generation, it is necessary to distinguish two kinds of movement <B> 10 </B> The cutting movement or movement of the tool on its support, during in which the cutting edge of the tool describes the surface of the rack tooth, this movement being effected at an entirely arbitrary speed.
2 The actual generating movement or movement of the blank relative to the support. of the tool. This movement generally results from two component movements this time dependent on one another, and which take place at such speeds that the pitch surface linked to the support of the tool rolls on the pitch surface. linked to the blank.
We can call this cutting process rolling, because we can easily see that the pitch of the tool rolling on the blank pitch with a linear speed equal to the circumferential speed of said blank, the rack accompanies the moving blank and somehow meshes with the cut wheel during cutting, so that each of the cutting teeth operates the complete cutting of a tooth. cut determined, we would obtain. the same result by rolling the rack on a plastic blank, each of the mesh-creating teeth hollowing out in said blank a slot which would be combined with it.
It emerges from this that the number of teeth actually cut is always equal to the number of cutting teeth; practically, the number of teeth of the teeth to be cut is. always greater than that of the teeth of the rack; this necessarily results, in all machines with rack-and-pinion tools, in particular machines of the Sunderland and Illaag type for example, a periodic movement of the rack to return to its initial position, constituting a certain number of down times unfavorable to efficiency . of the machine.
We tried to overcome this drawback by carrying out the continuous and progressive cutting of the teeth to eliminate these dead times, but we were led to abandon the rack tool, recti line tool and operation line. simple and practical, for more complex tools such as milling cutters, screws, leads or knives which have certain drawbacks; in particular, they require complicated and expensive machines.
The method according to the invention, which aims to remedy the various drawbacks pointed out in the known cutting methods, is characterized in that one or the rack is used which generates the size by developing <the progressive and continuous circle of the wheel to the tool module by performing a double movement:
a complex reciprocating cutting movement such that any one of the cutting teeth generates, with respect to the pitch plane of the theoretical mesh, the toothing thereof, and a generator movement consisting of an arbitrarily chosen translational movement acting in combination with a continuous rotation of the blank of the cutting wheel and of speed linked to the choice of the above translation.
The generating movement makes it possible to operate the continuous and progressive cutting of the entire circumference of the blank without it being necessary to periodically return the rack to its initial position.
The process according to the invention is justified by the following considerations:
EMI0002.0021
Let: <SEP> C <SEP> be the <SEP> cylinder <SEP> primitive <SEP> of the <SEP> blank.
<tb> Q <SEP> a <SEP> plan <SEP> benchmark <SEP> that <SEP> we <SEP> will call it <SEP> fixed.
<tb> P <SEP> the <SEP> plane <SEP> primitive <SEP> of <SEP> the <SEP> creates the theoretical <SEP>.
<tb> N <SEP> a <SEP> plan <SEP> linked <SEP> to <SEP> P.
<tb> T <SEP> sa <SEP> trace <SEP> on <SEP> P <SEP> (see <SEP> fig. <SEP> 1).
C rotates at a constant speed; the fictitious rack (P, N) is such that its primitive P slides on Q while rolling without slipping ser on C like a belt without there being during cutting any interruption in the movement of C, and P. Finally, the tool is mounted on a support to which is linked a plane P 'which slides on Q with uninterrupted uniform translation during cutting and at a very low speed compared to that of P.
The achievements of the cutting movement and the generating movement are carried out as explained below: l o Cutting movement (see fig. \?). We propose first of all to make straight den tures.
The rack tool is driven on its support with an alternate translational movement during which the trace m of a cutting edge describes with respect to P 'an arc of travel T', this arc and its law of description are. such that when m goes from <I> A </I> to <I> B, </I> its trajectory with respect to P is rectilinear and orthogonal to the speed of translation of P on P ', which will be called V.
Under these conditions, if 0 is the period of motion of m, this point describes in the plane P of the parallel lines, two consecutive lines being at a distance <I> p = v 0. </I>
The arc T 'is obtained in the following way: the point <I> m </I> describes on an axis x' x an alternating movement x = f <I> (t), </I> the axis <I> x 'x </I> itself is animated in the perpendicular direction oy with an alternating movement of very small amplitude and of the same period 0. The angle y of the axis x' x with the direction <I> v </I> and its reciprocating motion are chosen so that when m goes from A to P, its trajectory T over P is rectilinear.
<I> 20 Movement </I> generator.
The rack tool support frame and the blank support will first be assumed to be immovable with respect to each other, so it is consequently with the plane P 'linked to the support frame; let a) be the angular speed of the blank, R the radius of the primitive of C and n the number of teeth to be cut.
The speed V of P on P 'is such that V = u R.
If, by revolution of the tool, the blank rotates by an angle equal to
EMI0003.0018
the speed o checks:
EMI0003.0019
assuming that the tool removes a chip from all the teeth, After n revolutions of the tool, at most, the latter will be in the initial conditions and will no longer work at revolution n -I- 1.
We will then apply a relative translational movement between the support frame of the tool and the blank support, at a very low speed v, parallel to the sliding speed V of P on P ', but then the relative speed V since P on P 'must be kept, it will be necessary to correct the angular speed c) of the blank and give it a speed co' such that:
R (o '= v + V or even R (o0'-co) = v If the speed has the same direction as the speed Y from P to P', we will take co 'greater than co. A simple modification of the Inclination of the rack tool support on the carriage allows the machine to cut the helical teeth without modifying any of the other elements of the machine.
This is because said support, already inclined from the angle y to the horizontal, is rotated by an angle, B in any direction.
Let P 'always be the plane linked to the carriage, and on which the primitive P of the theoretical gear slides; or, on the other hand, P, a sliding plane on P 'with the speed V parallel to the active face of the rack.
With respect to P1, a cutting edge of the tool generates a surface N, .surface of a rack tooth; however, this edge generates the same surface N compared to the plane P which would slide on P 'with a uniform translational movement normal to the axis of the plane and of speed equal to:
EMI0003.0041
The blank neck speed corresponding to the immobility of the carriage is given by:
EMI0003.0043
If, by revolution of the tool, the blank turns by the angle
EMI0004.0000
speed c1 also checks:
EMI0004.0001
Assuming now that the carriage is animated by its generator movement z ,, la. rotation w'1 to give to the blank is such that the. sliding speed of P on P 'is always
EMI0004.0005
i.e. w1 R hence: Pt (c,), <I> = </I> (,),) <I> = v. </I>
Finally, to cut the two cone wheels judged from a parallel gear, it will suffice to rotate the support by the same angle f, but dan :, the two opposite directions with respect to the inclination y for the two wheels.
This process also makes it possible, without any modification of the setting of the machine, to cut wheels of several modules; in fact, the angle of inclination <I> y </I> and the curve <I> T '</I> drawn by a cutting edge of the mesh array only depend on (PO): suppose that the tool removes a chip every l,, teeth and let p be the circumferential pitch of the wheel to be cut: we must have: <I> k </I> y) <I> = </I> I 'H.
The largest module that we can then achieve is:
EMI0004.0017
but one can also use, without modifying the setting, module racks
EMI0004.0018
etc. (taking k = 2, 3, etc.).
Under the same conditions, a Jr module mesh will produce a helical module toothing

The invention a. also: for object a device for the implementation of the method according to the invention, characterized in that the cutting-rack tool is mounted in an orientable manner on a slide driven by an alternating movement of adjustable amplitude, in this that said slide is mounted on a second slide. orthogonal slides, and itself animated by an alternating movement of adjustable amplitude and very small in relation.
to that of the tool-holder slide and of the same period, in that all of these slides and the rack is mounted on a support head that can be oriented around its horizontal axis and on a movable support frame and therefore the rack-and-pinion member and the support of the rotating blank are driven by a relative translational movement of low speed, uniform and arbitrarily chosen.
The method and the machine according to the invention have the following advantages: The carriage is: animated by a uniform movement, very slow, without any interruption during cutting; it can be provided very heavy and very stable: moreover, the members of the cutting movement can have low inertia, and, consequently, be driven at fairly high speeds.
Thanks to this fact, and to the elimination of the dead time corresponding to the return of the cart which was discussed previously, we can; expect a significantly higher rate from the machine described.
Moreover, despite the. speed of cutting, which takes place regularly over the entire surface of the blank, heating thereof is uniform.
In addition, as has been shown in the description of the following method, the invention, a simple modification of the adjustment allows the cutting of the helical wheels; else. On the other hand, without touching the setting, it is possible, by means of different modules, to cut wheels of several modules.
Finally, this machine carrying out continuous and progressive cutting by means of a rack is clearly found. more economical and simple than the machines currently performing the same cutting but using complicated and expensive tools.
Two embodiments of the device according to the invention are described below and are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGS. 1 and 2 are geometric representations illustrating the process according to the invention to which reference is made in the description of this process.
Fig. 3 is a schematic elevational view showing a first embodiment of the device.
Fig. 4 is a front view of the device of FIG. 3, the two slides up.
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a machine provided with the second embodiment of the device.
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view of FIG. 5.
Fig. 7 is a plan view.
Fig. 8 is a rear elevational view thereof.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of the assembly of the two slides.
The device schematically represented in FIG. 3 comprises a fixed frame designated by 1, on which are mounted, on the one hand, the plane 2, in continuous rotation around its horizontal axis 2 'carried by a fixed support 3 and, on the other hand, the frame. support 4 mounted to slide vertically on. vertical slides shown schematically at 41. This support 4 carries a head 5 which can be oriented around its horizontal axis; on this head 5, which forms the angle with the horizontal, the two sliding slides 6 and 7 are mounted thereon. or thogonal.
The slide 6 is driven by an alternating movement of adjustable amplitude and very small on its slides 20; the slide 7 is also driven by a reciprocating movement of adjustable amplitude and carries the rack 8, fixed on this slide during cutting, but. of adjustable position around an axis parallel to that of the head 5, so that the active face of the tool is vertical in straight cut; this rack 8 works in one direction of its movement; at the end of the stroke, its separation from the cut wheel is achieved by usual means.
The operation of this machine is as follows: The inclination y having been chosen according to the module to be produced and according to the number of teeth jumped between two successive cuts, the carriage 4 rises very slowly with the speed v , while the slides 6 and 7 are animated with their respective reciprocating movement of period 0 and the blank 2 rotates with a speed co 'linked to the choice of v. When the carriage 4 is sufficiently raised, the cutting is finished.
The mode of execution of the machine shown in FIGS. 4 to 8 comprises (fig. 4) a frame 1 on which are mounted, on the one hand, the blank 2 in continuous rotation -on its carriage 3 sliding on the frame 1 with the speed v and, on the other hand, the grout support frame 4 being perpendicular to the movement of the carriage 3;
this support 4 carries the orientable head 5 on which are mounted, moving perpendicularly to one another, the reciprocating slide 6 of very low amplitude and the slide 7 carrying the cutting rack 8.
The carriage 3 moves on two slides 9, 9 of the frame 1 and its continuous movement is controlled by the screw. endless 10; the blank 2 is mounted on a vertical axis carried by the plate 11, the rotation of which, guided by the circular slide 15, is surée by the endless screw 12 acting on the hollow wheel. The training of. screws 10 and 12 will be defined later.
The support 4 is fixed on the frame 1 at an adjustable position relative to the carriage 3; he. can move on the slides 18, 18 perpendicular to the slides. 9 of carriage 3; it is shown in FIGS. 4 to 8, in its extreme left position and therefore closest to the carriage 3. The head 5 (FIG. 6) is carried by the support 4 and is orientable around the shaft 19; it is closed at its rear part by the flange 5 'and is fixed on the support 4 by bolts 31 circulating, by rotation of the head 5, in a groove made in the head 5.
The lower part of the flange 5 'and the internal extension 52 supporting the rolling bearing 19' of the shaft 19 are pierced with openings 32 and 33 in the shape of an arc of a circle for the passage of the shaft 30 when the support 4 of the head 5 moves back on its slides 18, 18. The head 5 carries, at its front part, the two slides 20, 201, on which slides the slide 6 (fig. 6 and 9).
The slide 6 is actuated by a positive device comprising the balance 21, the crank rod 22 and the rod 34 locked at an adjustable height on this slide 6 in a groove 45 (fia. 9).
The balance 21 is constituted by a cylinder provided at its lower part with two journals 35 engaged in bearings carried by the fixed part 36; the oscillation of this cylinder is controlled by the crank-rod 22, the shaft 22 '(fig. 7 and 9) on the rear end of which the fork 23 is blocked, actuated by the double cam 24, driven by tree 19 (fia. 5, 6, 8 and 9); inside this cylinder is a small piston 21 '= on which is articulated at 37 the connecting rod 34, the latter passing through the cylinder, of the balance 21 by the groove 46.
It is thus easily seen that the oscillation of the cylinder, driving the piston 212 and the connecting rod 34 will transmit to the slide 6 (not shown in fig. 5) its reciprocating movement along the slides 20. By varying the position of the piston to inside the oscillating cylinder 21, the amplitude of this movement is adjusted.
On the slide 6 is mounted the slide 7 sliding rack holder. in the slides 38 orthogonal to the slides 20 and 201 of the slide 6. It is driven by a substantially vertical reciprocating movement and of adjustable amplitude.
It is controlled by an adjustable finger 25, the front end of which is integral with the slide 7 with a certain lateral play in the movement of the latter thanks to the groove 47, and the rear end is engaged in the balance 26 (fia 5 and 6) the position of this end between the two branches of this balance determining the amplitude of the movement of the slide; this ba lance 26 is powered by a frustoconical rear extension 26 'to which a device by connecting rod 27 and crank 27' communicates a reciprocating rotary movement; the crank 27 'is actuated by the shaft 19.
It is thus easily understood that the reciprocating rotary movement of the extension 261 communicates to the balance 26 an oscillatory movement which transforms for the slide 7 by means of a slight lateral play of the finger 25, into a rectiliane alternately substantially vertical movement.
Finally, the slide 7 carries the cutting rack 8 fixed in cutting, but with an adjustable position around an axis parallel to that of the head 5, so that, despite the inclined y of the head 5, to the vertical, the active face of the tool is horizontal. This mesh 8 only works downhill; at the end of the stroke any known device moves it away from the cut wheel.
It has been seen that the angular speed of the blank previously. determined had to be constantly corrected as a function of the translational movement v of the blank carrier; this correction is made with the aid of a differential shown schematically at 39 which receives its movement from the shaft 17, operating in combination with three horse heads 16, 40 and 41 suitably adjusted (fig. 7 and 10) . The kinematic chain schematized by the fie. 10 shows the three horse heads as well as the control of the screws 10 and 12 from the motor shaft 30.
The ratio of the rotations produced by the horse's head 16 depends only on the number of teeth of the wheel to be cut. As for the pinions of the horse heads 40 and 41, they are chosen according to the modulus to be cut and according to the advance of the carriage per revolution of the plane (which characterizes the thickness of the co skin). These pinions turn very slowly and the movement comes to them from the screw 12 via a reduction gear 42.
The machine movement is entered by the shaft 30, controlled by the pulley 43 actuating the shaft 19 by the pinions 28 and 29 and the shaft 17 by the pinions 30 ', return 44 and pinions 17' (fia . 8).
The adjustment of the machine for cutting a pinion of ii tooth, module <B> 31 </B> (straight teeth) comprises the following operations: 10 Adjustment of the spacing of the support 4 on the frame. 2 Adjust the angular position of the head 5 so that the slider 7 forms the desired Y angle with the vertical (which is of the order of a few degrees at most).
30 Adjusting rack 8 (fig. 9) so that the plane of the active face thereof is horizontal.
40 Adjusting the position of the finger 25 on the balance 26 to determine the amplitude of the travel of the slide 7 according to the thickness of the wheel to be cut.
<B> 50 </B> Adjustment of the position of the connecting rod attachment points 34 according to the amplitude calculated for the movement of the slide 6.
60 Determination of the pinion clearances necessary to achieve the. Proper gear ratios of the horse heads 16, 41 and 40.
The operation of the machine is then as follows: While the rack 8 is driven by an uninterrupted back-and-forth movement resulting from the combination of the movements of the two slides 6 and 7, the blank holder plate mounted on the carriage 3 rotates rapidly around its vertical axis, and the carriage moves slowly on the slides 9. The tool begins to bite the blank, a cutting edge never giving two consecutive hits on the same tooth of the blank. As a result, the teeth are, at each time of cutting, in the same state of completion. When the carriage 3 has come to the end of its stroke, the cutting is finished.
