Process for the preparation of new anthraquinone dyes The present invention relates to the preparation of new anthraquinone dyes

EMI0001.0008
wherein n, m, R and Z have the meaning given in the explanation of the formula (1),
acylated with ss-halogenated aliphatic acids on hydrides or halides.
As anthraquinone dyes of the type indicated, starting dyes which are preferred for the present process are those which contain the acylatable amino group, in particular an NH 2 group, bonded to the optionally hydrogenated arylene nucleus R; this series of amino groups which contain at least two water-solubilizing groups and of the general formula where Z is a hydrogen atom or a sulfonic acid group.
To prepare these dyes, anthraquinone dyes of the formula can be in the m- or preferably in the p-position to the -NH- group, and the arylene nucleus can have further substituents such as alkyl groups or an -SO3H- group.
As an example of such anthraquinone dyes that can be used as starting materials in the present process, the following may be mentioned: 1,4 diamino-anthraquinone-2,5-, -2,6-, -2,7- or -2,8- disulfonic acid and especially 1-amino-4- (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone - 2,31- disulfonic acid or
-2,2'-disulfonic acid, 1 - amino - 4 - (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,5-, -2,6-, -2,7- or 2,8-disulfonic acid, 1- Amino-4- (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,5,3'-, -2,6,3'-, -2,7,3'- or 2,8,3'-trisulfonic acid, 1 amino -4- (3'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,4'-disulfonic acid.
Preferred anhydrides or halides of ß-halogenated aliphatic acids are those which are derived from low bamolecular aliphatic sulfonic or carboxylic acids, with advantage the chlorides of such acids, such as ß-chloroethanesulfonic acid chloride,
fl - chloropropionyl chloride or ss-bromopropionyl bromide.

correspond, in which one of the two Z is a sulfonic acid group and the other is a hydrogen atom or a sulfonic acid group.
The products of the formula (1) obtained by the specified process are new. They are valuable dyes that can be used for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials, such as polyhydroxylated textile materials, e.g. B. from polyvinyl alcohol or from natural or regenerated cellulose, and nitrogen-containing textile materials such as silk, leather and wool and synthetic fibers from Su perpolyamides and super-polyurethanes are suitable.
The dyes according to the invention can be applied to the fiber to be dyed by the direct dyeing method by the printing or by the so-called pad dyeing method and fixed on the fiber by heat and alkali treatment. The dyeings and prints obtained by these methods are distinguished by their particular purity of color shades, by good lightfastness and by excellent wet fastness properties.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 48.9 parts of 1-amino-4- (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,3'-disulfonic acid are dissolved in 1000 parts of water and enough sodium carbonate to form a neutral solution arises.
This solution is mixed in portions with 26 parts of ß-chloropropionic acid chloride, which are diluted with 20 parts of toluene, and the mineral acid that forms is neutralized by adding a 101% sodium carbonate solution, the temperature between 25 and 25 anthraquinone dyes with these anhydrides or halides are expediently carried out in the presence of acid-binding agents,
such as sodium acetate, sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, preferably, in an aqueous medium. It is often advantageous to use an excess of the acylating agent used and to carry out the acylation at pH values between 5 and 7.
The dyes of the formula (1) thus obtained, which have constitution 35, are particularly valuable and easily accessible. After the condensation has ended, the blue dye is salted out, filtered off and dried. It dissolves in water with a deep blue color and dyes wool from neutral or acidic baths in real blue tones. Applied to cotton using the pad dyeing process (Example 4), very pure blue tones are kept. The dyeings are characterized by very good wash and light fastness.
Dyes are obtained which also dye cotton in very true blue tones if the fol lowing dyes are acylated with β-chloropropionyl chloride by the above method: 1 .. 1-amino-4- (3'-aminophenylamino) anthraquinone-2 , 4'-disulfonic acid.
2. 1-Amino -4- (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,8,3'-trisulfonic acid.
3. 1-Amino-4- (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,5-disulfonic acid.
4. 1-Amino-4- (4'-aminophenylamino) -anthraquinone-2,5,3'-trisulfonic acid.
5. 1-Amino-4- (4'-aminophenylamino) anthraquinone-2,2'-disulfonic acid. Example 2 If 30 parts of bromopropionic acid chloride are used in Example 1 instead of the stated 26 parts of β-chloropropionyl chloride, a dye which dyes cotton in shades of blue and has very similar properties is obtained.
Dyeing instructions: a) 2 parts of the dye obtained in Example 1 are dissolved in 4000 parts of water, 10 parts of crystallized sodium sulfate are added to the dyebath and 100 parts of wool are used at 40 to 50 parts. 2 parts of 40% acetic acid are then added, the mixture is brought to the boil over the course of half an hour and the dye is dyed for 3.1 hours at this temperature. After rinsing and drying, a blue coloration is obtained which is very washable and washable.
b) 2 parts of the dye obtained in Example 1 are dissolved in 100 parts of water.
A cotton fabric is impregnated with this solution at 80 on the padder and the excess liquid is squeezed off so that the fabric retains 75 1 / o of its weight in dye solution.
The thus impregnated goods are dried, then impregnated at room temperature in a solution containing 10g sodium hydroxide and 300g sodium chloride per liter, squeezed to 751 / o, liquid absorption, and steamed for 60 seconds at 100-101. Then it is rinsed, treated in 0.5 a / a sodium bicarbonate solution, rinsed, soaped for a quarter of an hour in a 0.3% own solution of an ion-free detergent at boiling temperature, rinsed and dried.
The result is a boil-proof, blue coloration. If you use a rayon fabric instead of a cotton fabric, you get a similarly good result.
If the impregnation with the dye solution is carried out at 30 instead of 80 as described, a similarly good result is obtained.
