Automatic machine tool The present patent relates to an automatic machine tool, in which the parts to be machined are turned and then transported to another machining station by means of a conveyor device.
The machine tool according to the invention is characterized in that said conveyor device is constituted by a clamp intended to grip and transport the turned part, this clamp being formed of a first jaw integral with a movable arm and of a second jaw capable of being moved away from the first, against a spring which tends to keep the clamp closed, by a member mounted on a second movable arm, means imparting to the two said arms movements such as the second jaw is separated by said member when the first jaw arrives in the vicinity of the part to be gripped and is released at the precise moment when this jaw comes into contact with this part,
this instant coincides with that when the chisel to cut ends its cutting work.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof, FIGS. 2 to 5 are elevational views, on a large scale, of the clamp, illustrating its operation; fig. 6 is a plan view of this clamp and of the necked part.
The machine tool machine tool chisels shown are designated by A, the bar to be turned by B, the workpiece by P.
This part P is intended to be transported, after turning, from the position it occupies in FIG. 1 of the drawing, in the extension of the X axis, to undergo a new machining operation, for example a milling or cutting operation.
The device for transporting the part P comprises, mounted on two auxiliary frames 12 and 13 of the machine, a clamp 14 carried by an arm 15 capable of pivoting around an axis 16, and a hooking member 17 capable of rotate around an axis 18.
The clamp 14 is formed of a jaw 14a, integral with the arm 15, and of a jaw 14b, articulated on an axis 19 of the arm 15 and subjected to the action of a return spring 20 which tends to hold the clamp. closed. The anterior surface of the jaw 14b takes the form of a step 14c.
The hooking member 17 consists of a rod 17a terminated by a spout 17b. This rod is capable of sliding axially and of being blocked in a sleeve 17c.
The hub of the arm 15 is provided with a toothing 21 meshing with a toothed sector 22 presented by an arm 23a of a lever 23, the other arm 23b of which carries a feeler 24. The latter is intended to follow a cam surface 25 integral with a toothed wheel 26- engaged with a worm, drive 27.
The member 17 is rotatably secured to an arm 28 carrying a feeler 29 intended, like the feeler 24, to follow a cam surface 30 also fixed to a toothing 31 in engagement with the screw 27.
Two springs 32 and 33 apply the feelers 24 and 29 respectively against the surfaces 25 and 30. These two surfaces are each formed of two circular portions a and b connected by ramps C.
The relative angular positions of the cams 25 and 30 are adjusted, and their rotational speeds syn-

chronized so that the conveyor device works as follows: During the bar turning of the part P, the feelers 24 and 29 slide on the surfaces 25a and 30b of the two cams which turn in the directions indicated by the arrows Fi and F .. The clamp 14 and the finger 17 then occupy the positions (lower, respectively advanced) in which they are shown in FIG. 2.
When the bar turning is finished, the chisel A operates a groove in the bar B when the feeler 24 attacks the first ramp 25c. The arm 15 then begins a clockwise pivoting movement; in the time interval required for the clamp to pass from the position it occupies in FIG. 2 to that in which it is in FIG. 3, the feeler 29 reaches the edge limiting the surface 30b and the ramp 30c. During this time interval, the step 14c has been hooked by the spout 17b and the jaw 14b has pivoted so as to allow the part to pass between the two lips of the jaws 14.
At the end of this time interval, the feeler 29 glides along the ramp 30c, the slope of which is steep, which very quickly tilts the finger 17 back (fig. 4), allowing the jaw 14b to sway. 'escape; under the action of the spring 20, this jaw is energetically and instantly urged against the jaw 14a. This recall coincides with the failure of part P and bar B.
The arm 15 then continues, by carrying the part P, its tilting movement in the direction of the X axis, which it reaches at the instant when the feeler 24 itself reaches the edge limiting the ramp 25c and the surface. 25b. The arm 15 does not return to its lower position until the second ramp 25c presents itself under the feeler 24. A short time later, the second ramp 30c brings the finger 17 to its previous position (FIG. 2). During the next phase, during which the feelers 24 and 29 slide on the surfaces 25a and 30b, respectively, the bar B is advanced and a new part P is turned.
