Newspaper holder The present invention relates to a newspaper holder, comprising a tubular-shaped envelope, split over part of its length, for the passage of the folded edge of a newspaper intended to be introduced therein and provided at its upper end. a hook end and at its lower part a movable handle; it is characterized by the fact that it comprises means for clamping the folded edge of the newspaper, actuated by a device housed inside the tubular casing, said device itself being actuated by said movable handle.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, three embodiments of the newspaper holder object of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are partial elevational views, front and side respectively, of a first embodiment of the newspaper holder in the newspaper attachment position, not shown in FIG. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 are partial elevational views of the newspaper holder, corresponding to FIGS. 1 and 2 respectively, in the newspaper release position, not shown in said figures.
Figs. 5 and 6, on a larger scale, are sections on the line V-V of FIG. 1 and along the line VI-VI of fig. 3 respectively, in the clamping and disengaging positions respectively of the clamping means.
Fig. 7 is a partial front elevational view of a second embodiment of the newspaper holder, in the newspaper clamping position.
Fig. 8 is a partial side sectional view, taken along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7. Fig. 9 is a cross section taken along the line IX-IX of FIG. 7.
Fig. 10 is a cross section taken along the line X-X of FIG. 7, through a guide bearing of the operating rod actuating the clamping means.
Fig. 11 is a partial section in elevation, along the broken line XI-XI of FIG. 12, of a third embodiment of the newspaper holder, in the clamping position of the newspaper.
Fig. 12 is a cross section of the newspaper holder shown in FIG. 11.
Fig. 13 is a partial section in elevation, along the line XVll-XVII of FIG. 14, in the release position of the newspaper holder; and fig. 14 is a cross section along the line XIV-XIV of FIG. 13. The newspaper holder, in a first embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 6, com carries a tubular envelope 1, having a longitudinal slot 2, intended for the introduction of the folded edge of the sheets of a newspaper 3.
One of the edges of the slit 2 is folded inwardly of the envelope 1 to form a flange 4 against which the folded edge of the newspaper 3 can be clamped with the aid of a movable tube 5, concentric. inside the casing 1. For this purpose, the mobile tube 5, split over a length corresponding to that of the slot 2, has a serrated edge 6, curved towards the inside of the tube, the teeth of which penetrate, in the position of tightening, .in the folded edge of the newspaper.
At its upper end, the mobile tube 5 is fixed by a screw 7 to an end piece 8, covering the upper end of the casing 1 and capable of rotating with said tube. A hook 9, attached to the end piece 8, allows the newspaper holder to be suspended when it is not reading.
The movable tube 5 is integral at its lower end with a handle 10, having a spout 11, for example in the shape of a semi-circle, intended to penetrate. In a recess 12, of the same shape, of the casing 1, in the clamping position of the newspaper holder, as shown in fig. 1 and 2.
To insert a newspaper into the newspaper holder, pull handle 10 (fig. 1) and turn it in the direction of arrow f, so as to release the slot 2 (fig. 3), loppe 1 being maintained in its initial position to prevent it from rotating.
After having introduced the folded edge of the newspaper 3 into the slot 2, the handle 10 is rotated in the opposite direction to that indicated by the arrow f. This rotation of the handle has the effect of making the teeth of the serrated edge 6 penetrate the sheets of the newspaper, while pressing the folded edge of the newspaper against the edge 4 of the envelope, as shown in FIG. 5. The handle 10 is then pushed until the spout 11 penetrates the bottom of the recess 12, as shown in FIG. 1, so as to block the newspaper between the serrated edge 6 of the tube 5 and the rim 4 of the envelope 1.
In a second embodiment, the tubular casing 13 (Fig. 7 to 10) is made in the same way as the casing 1 of the first embodiment. It comprises a slot 14 with flange 15, serving as a support for the folded edge of a newspaper 16. Inside the casing 13 is housed a movable rod 17, held in an eccentric position by two bearings 18, respectively fixed. in the vicinity of the ends of said envelope. The movable rod 17, fixed at its lower end in a handle 19, is provided, between the bearings 18, with hooks 20, intended to press the folded edge of the newspaper against the rim 15 of the envelope 13.
The upper end of the tubular casing 13 is closed by a fixed end piece 21 with a suspension hook 22 and the lower end of said casing is provided with a slide 23, in the form of an arc of a circle, in which is engaged a lug 24, fixed in a collar 25 of the handle 19, in order to limit the rotation of said handle.
The newspaper clamping and release maneuvers in this embodiment are simpler than those described in the first embodiment of the newspaper holder due to the shape of the slide and the excen tricity of the rod. relative to the envelope. By turning the handle in the direction of the arrow f (fig. 7), the hooks release the newspaper which can be removed from the slot and, by rotating the handle in the opposite direction to that of the arrow f, the hooks penetrate the folded edge of the newspaper and hold it tight against the edge of the envelope, as shown in fig. 9.
Another newspaper holder is shown in Figs. 11 to 14; ii comprises a deformable envelope 26, with a generally triangular section, comprising the faces 27, 28 and 29. The face 27 has a longitudinal slot 30, intended for the introduction of a newspaper 31. One of the faces edges of slit 30 is folded inwardly of envelope 26 to form an edge 32 against which the folded edge of newspaper 31 is clamped by means of the other edge 33 of slit 30.
Inside the casing 26 is housed a rod 34, capable of rotating at its upper end in a collar 35 formed by said casing. The rod 34 is fixed at its lower end to a handle 36, mounted on a flange 37 of the casing, around which said handle is capable of turning. Cams 38 are fixed on the rod 34, intended to exert pressure on the face 29 of the deformable casing 26 under the effect of the rotation of the rod 34.
By turning handle 36 in the direction of arrow f (fig. 13) while keeping the face 28 of the casing pressed against a fixed surface, for example a table, the cams 38 move the face 29 away from the position shown in fig. 14 and bring it into the position shown in FIG. 12, which allows the folded edge of the newspaper 31 to be introduced into the slot 30. By then releasing the handle 36, the edge 33 of the slot tends to return to its initial position, the face 29 no longer being stressed by the cams. , and clamps the folded edge of the newspaper against the edge 32 of the envelope.
In the three embodiments which have just been described, the constituent parts of the newspaper holder can be made of metal or of synthetic material, except for the handle which is made of wood. The connecting member between the movable handle, integral with the inner tube or the rod, and the fixed casing could be constituted by a ratchet coupling comprising a ratchet wheel.
