Pneumatic hammer comprising at least one removable tool The present invention relates to a pneumatic hammer comprising at least one removable tool, of the piston type capable of being driven in a reciprocating movement in the body of the hammer under the action of compressed air reaching the piston through a control valve.
This piston is intended to strike the rod of a tool detachably engaged in a bush forming one end of the body of the hammer.
The pneumatic hammer which is the subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that the shank of the tool has an annular groove in which is engaged an elastic ring intended to force in the sleeve, the shank of the tool not being free in said ring which is tinée to serve as a stop for retaining the tool in the body of the hammer.
The drawing shows schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the pneumatic hammer object of the invention. FIG. 1 is an axial sectional view of the hammer.
Fig. 2 shows in partial section an alternative embodiment of said hammer.
Fig. 3 is a partial view of the hammer fitted with an accessory for guiding the tool. Fig. 4 is a section along IV-IV of FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 shows a variant of detail. This pneumatic hammer comprises a body 1 consisting of two main parts 2 and 3. Part 3 is hollow and has a cylindrical housing 4 in which a piston 5 is able to slide under the action of compressed air reaching the piston 5 by a control valve 6, housed in part 2 of the body 1. Indeed, as seen in FIG. 1, this part 2 has a transverse blind hole 7 in which is engaged a valve body 8, held in the bore 7 by a screwed part 9. The stem 10 of the valve is capable of sliding in the body 8 against the action a spring 11, engaged around the rod 10.
The spring 11 bears on the one hand against the body 8 and on the other hand against a push-button 12, made integral with the rod 10 by a pin 13. The valve stem 6 is therefore disposed transversely in the body 1. hammer and protrudes therefrom by its button 12. The actuation of the valve 6 is effected by means of a control lever 14, articulated on the body 1 along an axis 15 and acting on the valve 6 via the push-button 12. A tubular end piece 16 extends the part 2 and is intended to receive the end of a flexible compressed air supply pipe.
The path of the compressed air in the body of the hammer is as follows: From the nozzle 16, the compressed air arrives in a chamber 17 and when the valve 6 is open, passes inside the body 8 and from there in an axial bore 18 of the part 2. Radial bores 19 bring the compressed air into longitudinal channels 20 drilled in part 3 of the body 1, part 3 which is screwed by means of a thread 21 on part 2. These channels 20 open into an annular chamber 22.
The piston 5 is of the differential piston type, that is to say it comprises two parts of different diameters; a part 23 of greater diameter than its front part 24. The shoulder 25 constitutes the face of small cross-section of the differential piston 5 on which the compressed air acts to bring the piston 5 back to the rear position in the body 1. This the recoil movement of the piston 5 is made possible by the escape of the air contained in the space 26 by an axial bore 27 of the piston 5, radial channels 28 and slots 29 drilled in part 3 of the body 1 .
However, after recoil of the piston 5 and when the channels 28 reach opposite part 30 of the cylinder 4, the compressed air engages through the bore 27 in the space 26 of the cylinder 4. As the compressed air acts at This moment on a surface of greater cross section than that represented by the shoulder 25, the piston 5 is driven forward, until the channels 28 come opposite the slots 29 and let the compressed air escape. As soon as the pressure has dropped sufficiently in the space 26, the piston 5 re takes its backward movement.
As seen in fig. 1, the tool 31 to be actuated by the pneumatic hammer has a rod 32 which is engaged in a sleeve 33 which in a way forms the end 34 of the body of the hammer. In the example shown and to facilitate the construction of the hammer, this sleeve 33 is formed by a piece attached to the end 34 of the body of the hammer. To prevent the tool 31 from being able to separate from the body of the hammer, its shank 32 has an annular groove 36, in which an elastic ring 37 is engaged.
This ring is provided with a dimension such that it forces in the sleeve 33, but that the rod and more exactly the thinned part 38 of the latter passes freely into the ring 37. The latter therefore effectively constitutes a stop for retaining the tool in the body of the hammer.
Preferably, the ring 37 is formed using a steel strip of rectangular section. In addition, it is advantageous to form said ring 37 so that its outer surface has a taper (see fig. 1), so as to facilitate the engagement of the ring in the sleeve 33 during the installation of the ring. tool 31 in the body of the hammer.
Of course, the groove 36 is provided of sufficient width to allow complete freedom of movement for the tool 31 under the effect of the piston 5.
As seen in fig. 1, the control lever 14 is disposed longitudinally with respect to the body 1 of the hammer so as to be able to be pressed against it in the active position of the hammer. In addition, a device is provided to allow the adjustment of the size of the opening of the valve 6 by modifying the amplitude of the movements of the control lever 14. This device comprises a screw 39 with a knurled head 40, screwed on. transversely in part 3 of body 1 under lever 14 so that head 40 of said screw 39 serves as a stop for lever 14.
A notch-and-spring device is provided for maintaining said stop screw 39 in a determined angular position. In the example shown, notches are provided under the head 40 of the screw and a leaf spring 41 fixed to the body 1 engages via its free end in said notches to prevent any untimely rotational movement of the screw 39. By screwing the screw 39 more or less, the position of the stop formed by its head 40 and at the same time the size of the opening of the valve 6 is varied under the action of the control lever 14.
Fig. 2 shows a variant of detail of the pneumatic hammer shown in FIG. 1, variant in which the bore of the sleeve 33 has a conical shoulder 42, intended to ensure better retention of the ring 37 and therefore of the tool 31 in the sleeve 33.
Figs. 3 and 4 show means of the tines to prevent the rotation of the tool 31 on itself during work. These means include a part 43 in the general shape of a split ring intended to be clamped by a screw 44 on the end 34 of the body 1. This part 43 has a part 45 in the form of a fork with two teeth 46. On the other hand , the rod 32 of the tool 31, which in the particular case is constituted by a chisel, has two flat faces 47 which cooperate with the teeth 46 to ensure guidance of the tool 31.
Of course, as a variant, the part 43 could have a completely different shape than that shown in the drawing. In addition, instead of presenting a part 45 in the form of a fork with two teeth, this part 43 could simply be provided with an extension guiding, on one side only, the tool 31 which would in this case only have 'a single flat face 47. As a further variant, the means for preventing the rotation of the tool 31 could be constituted simply by an ankle engaged transversely in the end 34 of the body 1 and the point of which protrudes into the socket 33 to engage in an axial groove formed in the rod 32 of the tool 31.
Such guide means are particularly advantageous when the pneumatic hammer is used to actuate chisels or gouges, used for example for woodworking.
Fig. 5 shows, on an enlarged scale, an alternative construction of the valve 6 and of the device provided to allow adjustment of the amplitude of the movements of the control lever 14 and thus the size of the opening of the valve 6. .
As can be seen in this figure, in this variant, the valve body 8 has a thread 48 and is screwed into the bore provided transversely in the part 2.
This valve body 8 itself has a threaded bore 49 into which a part 50 is screwed which is axially drilled. The stem 10 of the valve 6 passes through the axial bore of the part 50 and it is this axial bore of the part 50 which itself serves as a guide for the push-button 12. A seal 51 is hand-held. held in the bottom of the threaded bore 49 by the return spring 11 of the valve 6 on its seat.
This part 50, which has a head 52, is intended to serve as a stop for the control lever 14 and thus to determine the size of the maximum opening of the valve 6. By screwing the part 50 more or less into the bore threaded 49, we can therefore vary the position of the stop that constitutes the head 52 and thus vary at the same time the size of the maximum opening of the valve 6.
Means are provided for maintaining the part 50 in a determined angular position. In the particular case, these means comprise a plunger 53, capable of sliding in a bore 54 provided in part 2. A spring 55 engaged in the bore 54 maintains the piston 53 in contact with a flange 56 provided on the edge of the head 52. The friction of the piston 53 against the collar 56 may be sufficient to prevent any untimely rotational movement of the part 50 in the threaded bore 49. However, one could provide notches on the lower edge of the collar 56, notches in each of which could engage the end of the udder 53.
As a further variant, a washer made of a material with a high coefficient of friction could be interposed between the piston 53 and the flange 56.
Of course, any other means of blocking the part 50 could be used.
