Apparatus for straightening balances and other moving parts. I a present invention relates to an apparatus for straightening ba lancers and other high-precision mobiles n @ -ant a poorly flat part, with troyens for maintaining such a mobile and for its rotation drive on its pivoting xc, characterized by a mobile straightening rack mounted on a support.
hammer connected to a fixed part of the device by at least one spring which tends Î: pressing it against a stop intended to determine the position in which said hammer touches the part to be straightened, of the mobile.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, a key embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 1. is an elevational view of the apparatus.
Figs. 2 and 3 are. a the plan c'- a side elevation, respectively.
The fi, -. 1 is a view in elevation, part (#n section and on a larger scale, of a mobile to be visited and to be straightened, as well as of certain parts of the apparatus which are used to carry and to drive this mobile in rotation .
The 5 shows the. axially movable spindle and various adjoining parts, in a following cut. the longitudinal axis of this bro- elie, and the. end 6 shows in elevation, part in section, various details of the part of the device which is used for straightening the moving parts.
The key frame the device, that is. intended for hre placed on a workbench, includes main parts 1 and. 2. A. the rear of part 1 is attached an electric motor 3, the shaft of which carries a stepped pulley 4 that a belt 5 connects with an intermediate pulley 6. The latter rotates idle on an axis 7 mounted adjustable in all the direetions on a support comprising a rod 8, a cross flange 9-11, with clamping screw, and a column 10 fixed on h. part 1 of the frame.
In the hollow front part of the latter is housed a removable box 12 intended to receive the mobile visited and laid flat which arrive by an inclined neck 13.
The mobile inspection and straightening mechanism is mounted cantilever in front of and above the front part 2 of the frame. The latter comprises, for the support of this mechanism, two parallel rods 14 on the front ends of which is fixed a block 15 from which rises a support 16 for the driving spindle of the mobile. In a bore of this support 16 is embedded a horizontal rod 17 which acts as a sort of assembly bench.
Indeed, the middle part of this rod carries, clamped on it, a support block 18 of the straightening device and its right part (fig. 1.) also carries, clamped on it, a support 19 for a spindle 20 axially movable.
We go. now first describe certain details of the assembly and of the rotational drive of the mobile 21 on the two spindles.
The support 16 comprises a part 22 having a horizontal slide 23 in dovetail clans which a carriage. 21 can be moved for the purpose of adjusting the drive spindle 25 in the horizontal direction. This carriage 24 can be blocked by means of a screw 26 in the part 22 which is. split. In the pin 25 journalled in a part 24a of the carriage. 24 is mounted a split clamp 27 that a nut 28 allows to tighten on a front part of spindle 29 having a central bore 30 for the support of one of the pivots 31 of the mobile 21 to its root.
The part of the pin 25 which surrounds the clamp 27 bristle, mounted on it to rub ment migras (by means of a split annular spring not shown), a stepped pulley 32 that a belt 33 connects to the pulley 6. A this pulley 32 is attached to a driver 34 (FIG. 2) comprising a bar 35 which engages between the spokes 36 of the mobile 21 with a view to driving the latter in rotation.
Pin 20 (fig. 5) which can. slide dsns rut bore 37 of the support 19 is hollow. Its anterior part (that is to say that which is directed towards the drive spindle.? 5) turns a split clamp 38 which a device of known construction comprising a tube 39 and an actuating button 40 allows to tighten on a cylindrical part 41 having an eccentric bore 42 (Fig. 4) intended for.
receive a part 43 whose anterior part is arranged like that of part 29 to support the other pivot 31 of mobile 21 at its root. The part 43 can be blocked in the part 41 by means of a screw 44. On the cylindrical part 41 can be slid a part 45 (fig. 5) that a screw 46 (fig. 2) allows to block. This part 45 is used. support to a finger 47 which is fixed to it by means of a screw 48 and which can be approached at will to the rim 48 of the balance which constitutes the mobile to be visited and to be straightened.
Parts 29 and 43 are removable since they are. tightened by a clamp 27 and a screw 44, respectively. They can be replaced by corresponding parts whose bore 30 is larger, larger or smaller, depending on the diameter of the pivots of the mobile.
On the posterior part of the. spindle 20 is slidably mounted a connecting piece 49 (fig. 5) of this spindle with a part 50 which can slide on the rod 17 and which is biased by small helical springs distributed over the circumference of this rod 17 and housed in a stop 52 which is screwed onto a part 53 which ends this rod 17. When the part 49 is blocked on the. pin 20 by means of a screw 54, the springs 51 push the pin 20 and. the parts which are integral with the spindle 25. so that the mobile 21 is caught between the parts 29 and 43.
It is easy to see that the action of the spells 51 varies depending on the position of the part 49 srir the spindle 20. The position that the latter occupies when. the springs 51 are fully relaxed. This can be adjusted by moving the support 19 on the rod 17 after loosening a screw 55. During work the spindle 20 can.
be locked in the support 19 by tightening a thumbscrew 56. To adjust in the vertical direction the position of the bore 30 of the part 43 in relation. in bore 30 of part 29, the clamp 38 is loosened by actuating button 40.
The part of the apparatus which has just been described is sufficient for the inspection of the key parts. To carry out this inspection, the mobile is mounted in 'es bores 30 after having withdrawn the pin 20 with the part 43 against the key springs 51, which can be done by acting. on a rod 57 (fig. 2) fixed to. part 50. When the motor 3 is started, the mobile 21 is set in rotation around its geometrical axis kept fixed by means of the references comprising the belts 5 and 33.
Finger 47 is approached to. will of the face of the mobile whose flattening must be noted, then the interstice between said face and said finger is observed against the light. The mobile driven in rotation by the motor can be braked if the need arises. For this, it suffices for the worker to brake the belt 33 more or less with the fingers of the left hand.
If the mobile is not laid flat in a satisfactory manner, it can be straightened eonjointe- i, ient the visitage, by means of the device which is now going. be described. This device comprises a hammer 58 which is mounted on a hammer support 59 by means of a pivot 60, around which it can. be rotated as soon as 1 there is. @ erroneous a screw 61. The support:, 9 is mounted to pivot on -His axis 62 (fig. 3 ) embedded in the block 18.
In a bore 63 (Fig. 6) that the support 59 has to. its upper part, the fixed part of a micrometer 64 is fixed by means of a nut 65. The movable inner part 66 of the micrometer can be blocked by means of a fen due plate 67 (fig. 2) and a thumbscrew 68. It cooperates with a stopper 69 mounted in a tube 70 which is fixed to the block 18 by means of a flange 71. The stopper 69, which is made of a relatively metal. tender, is requested by the spring 72, the pressure of which is always relatively. strong, can be adjusted by means of a screw cap 73.
By adjusting the mobile part 66 of the micrometer 64, the position of the hammer 58 is adjusted relative to the mobile to be straightened. This adjustment is generally made in such a way that if said part 66 touches the stop 69, the hammer 58 just touches the face of the mobile if the latter is set flat. Excessive straightening which would require correction in the opposite direction is therefore excluded.
Two springs act on the support 59 of the hammer, namely a tension spring 7-1-, attached to a rod 75 whose collar 76 provided with a locking screw 77 is mounted adjustable along a recessed rod 78 clans block 18, and a spring 79 housed in a tube S0 which is. fixed to the block 18 by means of a flange 81. The spring; 79, the force of which can be adjusted by means of a threaded plug 82, acts. on the hammer support 59 by means of a part 83.
In general, if relatively mobile. If the ends are to be re-dressed, such as anchor wheels or key-balance wristwatches, the adjustment is carried out by letting hammer 58 strike once on the. poorly flattened part, after having loaded the springs 74 and 79 by an oscillation of the support. 59, oscillation, the size of which is assessed according to the importance of the veiling of the. poorly flat part. It has been observed that the worker can very quickly learn to make a perfect straightening by one or two blows of the hammer 58.
To tension the springs 74 and. 79, he rocks the hammer support 59 by acting on the actuation button 84 of the micrometer 64 with the fingers of the right hand with which he also acts on the rod 57 to withdraw the axially movable spindle 20 as soon as the visit and straightening are completed.
If larger moving parts, such as circular pendulum pendulums, are often to be straightened, an additional device is provided which causes the support to oscillate.
59 at a constant rate as soon as opening it gives up the action of springs 72 and 79. This positive device which has for independent control of that of the mobile 21 an electric motor 85 with a belt transmission 86, comprises a crank 87 whose shaft 88 (-Fig. 2) rotates in a bearing 89 tightened on the rod 78 and a piston 90 which is connected to the crank 87 by means of a connecting rod 90a and which slides in a support 91. The latter is mounted on the rod 78 on which it can be blocked by means of a screw 92 (fig. 1 and, 6).
A handrest 93 is fixed to this support 91 by means of screws, not shown.
If the worker works with this device, he regulates the action of the hammer on the mobile to be straightened by determining the number of cuts of an always equal force that the hammer applies to the part to be straightened. For this purpose, it suffices. to abandon the hammer support 59 for a more or less prolonged time to the action of the springs 72 and 79 and of the mechanism 85-92.
To facilitate the work of the worker who observes with a magnifying glass the interstice between the finger 47 and the mobile, provision has been made for indirect lighting of this interstice. To a vertical column 9 e fixed to part 2 of the frame, an adjustable electric lamp 95 and an extendable support for an anti-glare screen 96 have been fixed.
Of the. Thus, the light emitted by the lamp 95 cst reflected and made folded or less diffused by the upper, white surface of the neck 13, only then to fall on the interstice to be observed and on the eye of the worker.
The observation of the mobile will be facilitated if the device is fitted with a magnifying glass more powerful than the magnifying glass which the worker usually wears - and, which it must replace. This telescope can be combined with a lamp for direct illumination of the mobile.
We could imagine various modifi cations, one of which would consist in animating the hammer with an oscillating movement by means of an electromagnetic device of the vibration motor type.
