Fig. 2 est une coupe par la ligne 2-\' de la fi-. 1.
La vis 50 sert aussi à maintenir fermement l'ensemble qui vient. d'être décrit sur une barre de support non rotative 51. Celle-ci est fixée au bâti principal 11 et, si on le désire, elle peut. être réglable verticalement pour per mettre de disposer la surface 44 de l'anneau 1-3 à l'écartement désiré de l'extrémité supé rieure de la douille rotative 19a. Polir la clarté du dessin, l'anneau 43 a été représenté à, une distance exa-érée de la surface de des sus de la virole 39;
Method for manufacturing twisted textile yarns, and apparatus for its implementation. The present invention relates to the manufacture of textile strands or threads by twisting a filamentary material. The term twisting, as used herein, denotes not only the simple twisting of a filamentous material, but also operations such as backing, twisting, wrapping or wrapping, this invention includes a method of making fabric. twisted textile yarns, as well as an apparatus for carrying out this process.
The process that the invention comprises for the manufacture of twisted textile yarns having a substantially constant number of turns per length and having a substantially diameter. constant, in which the material to be twisted is. unwound at the end from a supply reel and form during this emptying, while said reel rotates at a normal operating speed, a balloon 'coaxial with the reel and which terminates in a point of torsion coaxial with the coil and spaced (the exit end of said coil,
wherein the rotating balloon is not subjected to traction from a rotating mechanical part through which the material of said balloon passes towards said point of torsion, and wherein the material is continuously drawn at the deviation of said point of torsion by a force exerted in the axial direction and away. of the output end of the coil, is earaetérisé in that the point of torsion is fixed faeon at.
proximity to the outlet end of the coil, and in that the following air currents are created. helicoidal paths along the surface of the coil, directed from its ends towards its center and such that the shape of the resulting balloon is different from that which it tends to assume under the action of centrifugal force and such as to maintain a uniform tension on the material, while it approaches the point of torsion, whatever the point of the reel from which the unwinding is carried out at any given moment.
The apparatus which the invention also comprises, for the implementation of the above method, is characterized in that it comprises a spindle for supporting a reel, a device for rotating the reel, a device intended to impart to the balloon formed by the material being unwound a shape different from that which it tends to take under the action of the.
centrifugal force and comprising stationary means for fixing the position of the point of torsion and acting to fix the position of the end of the ball near the exit end of the spool, and a device for create air currents following, helical paths along the surface of the coil and directed from its ends to its center.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus which the invention comprises.
Fig. 1 is a vertical diametral section. Fig. 2 is a section through the line 2- \ 'of the fi. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1, and fig. 4 is part of FIG. 1 larger scale view.
The apparatus shown comprises a non-rotating vertical shaft 1-0, resiliently mounted at its lower end on a stationary part 11 of a frame by means of spring washers and a nut 13. For common uses, the ar bre 10 may have an axial bore 14. However, in the case where the wire does not have a core, shaft 10 may be solid.
Shaft 10 is provided with a lower bearing 1.5 and. an upper bearing 1.6, a spacer tube. 17 being interposed between these bearings to ensure that they are placed in the proper position and the parts being held in place by a nut 1.8 screwed onto the upper end of the shaft 10.
A rotating tubular spindle is mounted on the bearings 15 and 16. This spindle comprises a pulley 19 and a tubular sleeve 19a on which a supply reel can be mounted. This bush is forcibly fitted into a bore of the pulley 19, its end constituting a shoulder inside said hazard against which the bearing 15 is held applied by an ordinary elastic segment 20.
The lower end of the pulley 19 is provided with a sealing and dust protection device, 21, comprising a groove in which the circular edge of a cup is engaged.
The spool is supported by a base piece 22 provided with an axial hole hub force-fitted to the outside of the pulley 19 of the spindle. The base 22 is provided with a series of resilient fingers 23 which extend upward. and are blocked at their lower end between the sleeve 19a and the wall of an enlarged portion of the axial hole of the base 22 (see also FIG. 2).
Any form of coil desired can be used. In the particular exempl.e chosen, there is shown a type of coil P whose winding. supports itself, this reel, provided with ends which go in narrowing, before been formed on a reel holder tube 24. The lower conical end of the. coil P conforms to the contour of the base 22 and, in practice, the base 22 protects this end of the coil.
The lower end of the tube 24 protrudes, like gold dinar, beyond the winding and is freely received in an annular depression of the base 2.2. The elastic fingers 23 perform both the centering and the tightening of the. coil P on the rotating sleeve 19a ,, so that the coil participates in the rotation of this sleeve. This arrangement allows. to the rotary reel to deform the fingers to find itself its axis of rotation, which is not necessarily that of the shaft 10. The fingers 23 also make it possible to remove the empty tube 24 and to mount a full reel P on the sleeve 19a by longitudinal movements.
A windmill, or propellant 25, is slidably mounted near the upper end of the socket 19a. It comprises a substantially cylindri portion that 26, of which. the internal diameter exceeds the external diameter of the solid coil P, a flat wall 27 and a hub 28 (fig. 1 and 4).
The hub 28 has an annular recess 29 into which freely penetrates the projecting upper end of the reel-holder tube 24, as well as an axial hole: in which a ferrule 30 is force-fitted, said ferrule having a central hole which s 'fits tightly around socket 19a. Between the ferrule 30 and the bore of the hub 28 are firmly blocked the upper ends of a series of elastic fingers 23a (Fig. 4) which extend.
down along the outer surface of the sleeve 19a and function to hold and center the upper end of the spool tube 24.
The windmill 25, the fingers 23a and the ferrule 30 constitute a complete assembly in itself that one can. slide up. away from the sleeve 19a when it is desired to mount a new coil on this sleeve. The metal fingers 23a are interposed between the tube 24 and the. outer surface of the sleeve 19a, and have the effect of locking the coil on said sleeve so that it participates in the rotation of the sleeve.
For most applications, the soft linet to. cylindrical wind shown in fig. 1 product at. Inside the Ball Path The desired pneumatic action (ie creating the necessary air currents) to re-adjust the shape and speed of the ball.
The reel. 25 est. provided with an uninterrupted lower peripheral rim 31, smooth and rounded, which extends downwards from the top of the coil P over a distance which, for the best results, is of the order of one third of the length of the reel, the inner diameter of the cylindrical portion 26 of the reel being greater than that of a full coil. An annular chamber 32 is thus formed between the exterior surface of the coil P and the interior surface of the slack 25.
The cylindrical portion 26 projects above the level of the planar wall 27, so as to. constituting a shallow annular channel 32c between the hub 28 and the inner surface of the part 26a of the cylindrical portion 26 of the reel. The planar wall 27 may have one or more openings intended to communicate the chambers 32 and 32a. When the reel 25 rotates with the sleeve 19a, the outer surface of the cylindrical portions 26, 26a of the reel. create, by friction contact with the ambient air, a rotating ring of air which rotates around the periphery of the spool of wire P.
As the outer surface of part 26, 26a has a constant diameter exceeding the maximum diameter of the coil P, the effect. of this part is substantially independent of the effective diameter of the coil, and the. speed of the rotating air ring is constant and greater than that of the air ring normally created by the. rotating coil itself. From the fact that the air set in motion. by the reel tends to move away from the spool under the effect of centrifugal force, it is also. creates air currents which apparently follow a helical path along the face of the coil from the ends to the center, the two propellers apparently facing opposite directions.
Air currents moving. axially tend to force the balloon formed by the wire being unwound from one or the other of the respective end portions of the spool, to remain close to the peripheral surface of this spool, as shown at 33 to the lower end of the coil, but in the region adjacent to the edge 31, the ascending and descending air currents unite and tend to spread radially outwards,
so that the ball forms a more pronounced bulge on the outside of the cylinder 26 and whose maximum diameter is at all times situated between the horizontal planes of the upper and lower ends of the reel 25 and to assume a shape such that the end 35 of the balloon,
which is located directly above the spool and in which the wire coming from the spool approaches the point of tor sion (on the underside 44 of the ring 43 for determining the point of torsion described below and which is concentric with the spool and spaced from the upper end of the spool), is at all times located in a plane which makes a substantially constant angle with the axis of the spool.
As can be seen in FIG. 1, the parts are located relative to each other so that the angle between the axis of the coil P and the end 35 of the ball lon exceeds 60.
Normally, in the region outside the cylinder 26, the annular rotating air mass, including the drive. results from the friction exerted on it by the reel and of which. the linear velocity exceeds that of the air which is in contact with the coil itself, exerts on the ball a constant and uniform driving force such that it substantially neutralizes the resistance of the air.
Whatever the exact shape of these air currents, the net result is to change the shape of the ball, so that the wire reaches the point of tor sion in a direction which makes a substantially constant angle, for a given speed of rotation of the spool or for a given type of wire.
The approximate shape of the balloon when the yarn unwinds from the lower end of the spool has been shown by. line in line. continuous 36, while the dashed line 37 represents the. approximate shape it takes when the wire unwinds from the upper end of the spool.
The balloon 36 (or 37) neither touches nor the slack 25 during operation. normal of the spindle, as indicated at 38, nor any rotating mechanical part, such as that of a fin for example, so that it does not suffer any wear by friction and that it is. not influenced by the speed or inertia of any part likely to come into contact with it. However, when switching on or off the. spindle, there is momentary contact between the wire unwinding from the spool and the edge 31 of the reel.
It should be explained here that it is possible, by applying spindle speeds of the order of 15,000 to 30,000 revolutions per minute and a diameter of 18 cm for the ball (re shown by line 37) in order to twist a continuous 100 denier nylon filament, to maintain the tension at constant value. which is subjected to the yarn at the point of twisting with a deviation not exceeding 0.5 g, and to reduce the total tension of the yarn to a value of the order of 2 g.
With such reduced total tensions of the twist yarn and such a small variation in tension between the extreme positions of the yarn balloon, under the indicated speed, re-twisting of a spool of yarn can be done end to end. other of the. spool over a period of approximately one hundred consecutive hours before a wire break occurs.
The closure ferrule 39 disposed at the upper end of the sleeve 19a (FIG. 1) has a central threaded hole 40 which is intended to receive a stud 41, in the case where there is one. uses a.
The stud 41 shown in FIG. 1 consists of a piece in the shape of a right cone of which. the upper end penetrates inside the smooth edges 4? of the opening of the above-mentioned ring -13, whose surface below .14 defines the. plane of the point of torsion.
We can define this ring eonime constituting a device whose undersurface -1-1 determines the point of torsion and constitutes a smooth path for the thread, thus forcing the end 3._5 of the ball to approach (the the axis of the labrum, while being situated in a transverse plane determined with respect to this axis.
In the figure, this plane is. located below the plane at which the point of torsion would be situated in the event that the ball of the balloon could freely take the shape which it tends to take under the effect. of centrifugal force alone; in other words, the point. of torsion as defined by the ring -13 is. abnormally lowered, so that the angle between the axis of the spindle and the end of the balloon exceeds 60.
The airneau -13 is carried by an oscillating arm -16 to which it is removably attached by means of screws (not shown). The arm 46 is provided with a sector-shaped hub 47 and is rotatably attached to a support block 48 by means of a ferrule. -19 and a clamping screw 50 (fig. 3).
The screw 50 also serves to firmly hold the assembly that comes. to be depicted on a non-rotating support bar 51. This is attached to the main frame 11 and, if desired, it can. be vertically adjustable to allow the surface 44 of the ring 1-3 to be placed at the desired spacing from the upper end of the rotary bush 19a. To polish the clarity of the drawing, the ring 43 has been shown at an exa-erated distance from the surface of above the ferrule 39;
in practice, this distance would be appreciably. lower than indicated.
The block .18 has its blind hole intended to receive a compression spring 5? and a retaining ball 53. The hub -17 of the oscillating arm -16 has recesses 54 in which the ball 53 is forced to engage under the.
thrust of the spring 52 polish resiliently maintain the arm 46 either in a horizontal position or in a vertical position, as desired, during operation of the apparatus or when the spindle is pulled back of a full reel.
When it comes to twisting a very fine wire, the arrangement is adopted (fig. 1, except that the stud 41 is removed from the ferrule 39 and that the dewlap ring 43 is lowered to close The surface 44 of the end of the socket 19a can be further reduced. The tension exerted on the straight twisted part 45 can thus be reduced to a fraction of a gram. a denier (the 15 to 75, are usually twisted under such a ten- Slon.
It should be explained here that, during operation of the apparatus of FIG. 1, the end 35 of the balloon wraps around the top of the nipple 41 forming turns which slide and separate from the end (the nipple 41 and produce a rec twist, albeit axially twisted) yarn. The number (the turns wound on the stud varies from letnl> s to another during operation. At times, this variation in the number of turns is very fast, while at other times, there remains a constant number of turns on the nipple for several minutes.
The number of turns wound to. a given moment on the nipple 41 is weak, for example 2 to 4 on a nipple such as that of the fi-. L Despite. of these variations which occur here. formation of turns and. in the shape of the portions of the ball that are. located below the ring 43, the tension and the number of turns of twist per unit length of the wire located above the ring and designated by 45 to, fig. 1, are neighbors of a constant value and independent of the point at which the turns separate from the coil.
In the case of known devices, the tor sion per unit length varies cyclically at. as the starting point of the wire varies from one end of the spool to the other during unwinding, during operation, this cyclical variation of the twist being usually of the order of 10 0 / n of the predetermined number of twist turns per unit length, and it follows that the surface of a fabric produced using such a yarn exhibits variations which can be observed with the naked eye.
The torsion per unit length obtained by means of the apparatus described can, as has been specified, be kept so constant that the. variation does not exceed 0.2 0.10 of the predetermined total. The fabric produced using such a thread is so regular that its surface does not show any variation visible to the naked eye.
In addition, the tension of the twisting yarn is reduced to such a low value, for example a small fraction of a gram, that the most delicate yarn can be twisted at much higher speeds than was possible. to apply with the previous devices. Due to the fact that its tension is low and constant, there is no risk of the yarn breaking during twisting, which lowers labor costs, eliminates knots and ensures increased production per spindle , being. given that it is. no need to stop the spindle to reattach broken ends.
The position occupied by the drive belt when in driving contact with the pulley part of the spindle has been shown at 65 in FIG. 1, while, when the spindle has been stopped, the belt does not touch the pulley, its position being that indicated by broken lines at 66 (fig. 1).
The operation of the apparatus shown is as follows: Assuming that the spindle is fixed and that the guide arm 46 occupies its vertical position, a coil P is placed on the spindle so that the thread unwinds properly and the wind linet is placed at the top of the coil, the fingers, elastic clamps being inside the tube 24, then the ring 43 is brought into a horizontal position. We do. pass the initial end of the wire to be twisted over the circumference of the reel 25 and through the opening of the ring 43 and from there it is led to any known winding device (not shown) and it is wound at by hand a few turns of wire on the wire holder tube (not shown).
This done, the drive belt is actuated (using any known device, not shown) to bring it into contact with the pulley with a view to driving the latter, which causes the spool to rotate and the pulley. spindle in the desired direction.
The shape and size of the balloon are determined by the position of the ring 43 and by the air currents created by the reel 25. The operator does not need to initiate the formation of the turns around the stud, whereas they are formed automatically. In the case where the apparatus is used to manufacture a sheathed wire, the stud 41 is removed, allowing as much. the wire to be sheathed to cross in the upward direction the axial hole 14 of the spindle.
