Il est extrêmement im portant que l'air en mouvement de rotation dans la chambre de combustion soit -unifor mément réparti sur la périphérie de cette der nière au moment où il y pénètre, et à cet effet, l'orifice d'entrée 10 a la forme d'aulne fente annulaire ininterrompue;
La demanderesse a constaté que si la pression de l'air dans le dispositif décrit ci-dessus est trop faible, la flamme devient instable et la combustion a tendance à être incomplète; on obtient cepen dant de bons résultats déjà avec une pression d'air ne dépassant pas 3 cm d'eau. Plus la pression de l'air augmente, plus la puissance du dispositif, rapportée au débit d'air, aug mente;
Device for the combustion of a pulverized liquid or solid fuel. The object of the invention is a device for burning a pulverized liquid or solid fuel, comprising a combustion chamber in the form of an elongated solid of revolution, at one end of which the fuel and air are introduced, while that the hot combustion gases exit at the other end of the chamber.
The subject of the invention is a device for the combustion of a pulverized liquid or solid fuel, 'the aim of which is to allow complete combustion of the fuel, even when the latter is one of the most difficult: to burn, like oils heavy residuals, and this without soot formation and with a very small excess of air or even without any excess of air.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a sprayer for the fuel, mounted in the center of one end of the combustion chamber and surrounded by an air inlet pipe opening into the chamber and comprising a device for taking - air a rotational movement, and by an air supply channel, the orifice, in the form of an annular slot, is located in the periphery of said chamber, at the same end,
said channel being shaped so that the air which it brings is animated by a rotational movement in the same direction as the air which. arrives through said pipe.
In the accompanying drawing is shown, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is a cross section along II-II of FIG. 1.
The device shown comprises a combustion chamber 1 of generally cylindrical and elongated shape. A sprayer 6 for the fuel is mounted in the center of the end wall 4 and the other end of the chamber has an opening or outlet 5 of reduced section, through which the hot combustion gases can exit the chamber. The wall of the chamber 2 is made of a material resistant to heat, for example a refractory ceramic material.
The sprayer 6 shown is constructed as a pressure sprayer for liquid fuel; it could also be constructed to atomize liquid fuel by means of compressed air or water vapor, or as a solid atomized fuel injector. The angle at the top of the fuel spray cone is preferably about 45.
An air inlet hose 7, opening into the chamber, surrounds the sprayer: this hose has several helical guide fins 8 which cause the flow of air passing through the hose to take up a rotational movement around the nozzle. axis of the sprayer and the combustion chamber.
A separate annular partition 9 surrounding the nozzle of the sprayer is disposed in the pipe 7; it has a conical shape at the end directed towards the combustion chamber and has holes to pass a small fraction of the air arriving through pipe 7 and to make it arrive in the fuel stream at the point where It comes out of the orifice s of the nozzle of the sprayer, so as to stabilize the flame on the nozzle.
The pipe 7 only feeds part of the combustion air into the combustion chamber, the remainder arriving in the chamber through an annular slot 10 located in the periphery. from the room. This slot constitutes the orifice of an annular channel 11, into which an air inlet pipe 12 opens out tangentially (FIG. 2), so that the air circulating in this channel and entering the chamber. through the annular slot 10 receives a rotational movement around the axis of the chamber, in the same direction as the air arriving through the pipe 7.
It is extremely important that the air moving in rotation in the combustion chamber is uniformly distributed over the periphery of the latter when it enters it, and for this purpose the inlet orifice 10 has the shape of alder unbroken annular slit;
in addition, a partition 13 is mounted between the channel 11 and the slot 10 to create a narrow passage opposing, to the air leaving the channel 11, a resistance such that this air is uniformly distributed when it leaves through the slot 10, thus preventing an irregular inflow of air into the channel 11 gives rise to an irregular inflow of air into the combustion chamber through the slot 10.
The combustion chamber has an ignition orifice 14 and a sight glass 15 for controlling the flame. When the device is in operation, the air coming from the same source arrives in the pipes 7 and 12 under a pressure of between 3 and 10 cm of water column, for example under a pressure of 6 cm. It is important that this air pressure remains low in order to limit the work required to discharge the air.
The Applicant has found that if the air pressure in the device described above is too low, the flame becomes unstable and combustion tends to be incomplete; However, good results are obtained already with an air pressure not exceeding 3 cm of water. The more the air pressure increases, the more the power of the device, related to the air flow, increases;
it already reaches under a pressure of 6 cm of water a value of 4.5 X 10s kcal / msih.
The value of the resistance opposed to the flow of air in the pipes 7 and 12 is preferably chosen so as to make the quantities of air arriving in the combustion chamber through these two pipes practically equal. One of these quantities should not be more than double the other. The total quantity of air must obviously be adapted to the quantity of fuel to be burned.
The two air currents entering the combustion chamber must turn in the same direction; if the central air flow coming through pipe 7 turns in the opposite direction or does not turn at all, the flame becomes unstable.
The air arriving through the slot 10 mainly follows a helical path along the wall of the combustion chamber towards the open end thereof and only gradually mixes with the gases of the flame in the chamber; the liquid or possibly unburned solid particles which are found in the central mass of these gases and which are projected by centrifugal force against the wall come into contact with the moving air at this location and burn; this prevents the formation of coke deposits on the wall of the combustion chamber.
The linear speed of the air flow directed mainly tangentially and in rotational movement along the wall can reach a few tens of meters per second.
In order for the device to function with certainty in a satisfactory manner, it is necessary to give a certain value to the ratio between the length and the diameter of the combustion chamber, this ratio not being less, in general, to 2: 1.
The outlet orifice 5 of the chamber is of reduced diameter to prevent the return into the chamber of combustion gases.
