Stereoscopic camera. The subject of the invention is a stereoscopic photographic apparatus producing already inverted alloys on a film.
the usual stereoseopic cameras produce image pairs, the position of which must be reversed when they are to be examined a-Li by means of the usual ste, i, eoseopes; that is to say that these images must be cut from the film and their position reversed, so that, by vision (stereoscopic images, the eye can see the image taken by the lens of right and vice versa.
The inversion of images for stereoscopic vision can also be achieved by very complicated and expensive optical devices.
The stereoscopic camera forming the subject of the invention is provided with two objectives with parallel optical axes in correspondence of which are placed two plane reflecting surfaces such as two plane mirrors or two prisms functioning as plane mirrors, forming an angle of 45 'with the axes of the objectives and, an angle of 900 between them, so that the images are formed on two local planes parallel to each other and with the axes of the objectives and in correspondence with windows having the size of a photogram and against which passes, along an adjustable curved path, the film to be impressed.
This apparatus is characterized in that the curved path of the film has the shape of U having, dimensions such

In the case where perforated films are used, such as those for cinematography, normal or to not reduced, the advancement of the film can be carried out to the using a toothed drum whose tooth spacing corresponds to the spacing between the perforations of the film, the circumference of the drum being such that the number of teeth on it is equal to or multiple of number of holes in a photo- gram, of the stops integral with said drum which can allow the film to be advanced by a length equal to to one or two photos to the times,
the advancement of one photo- gram to at a time being adopted when using the a-P-Pareil as a normal non-steroscopic graphic camera, which is easy to obtain by blocking one of the objectives.
The film, between two focal planes, can be guided along the curved path by a device making it possible to press the film before printing and to release it as soon as, after the shutter has been released, the film is to be advanced. , the film press device being mechanically connected to the film advancement movement and to the shutter release.
In addition, in order to avoid double exposures, the cocking of the shutter can be carried out in the first phase of the advance of the film to using a device which, when pushing on the trigger member, causes the clutch between a rack which arms the shutter and the shaft carrying the film winding drum, this connection automatically ceasing when the shutter is armed.

On the path of the rays coming from each of the objectives are interposed two on mirror faces A ' and A " forming an angle of 45" with the optical axis of the respective objective. on the planes XX ' and X "-X", which are parallel to each other and which form an angle of 450 with the mirror surfaces A' and A ", come to fori-laugh the reverse images FP which can be brought to focus on these planes by any organs capable of jointly moving the two objectives along their optical axes.
Along these parallel planes X! -X 'and X' # - X "pass the two film sections Z, which, as shown in Figs. 1 to 4, are guided along of a U. path This U curvature of the film is obtained, in practice, by providing a protruding line guide,
com taking a pair of rollers R - R "which are each mounted insane in correspondence with the tops of a pair of parallel triangular levers articulated at the distance from the shortest possible from the periphery of these rollers on Q'-Q "pivots" journaled between plates D projecting to the outside of the cover C of the device. The length of the film between each pair of exposed images is equal to to the height of two images.
On another of the tops of these triangular levers are also mounted two small rollers which come to bear on the branches of the path in U which are found at the opposite of that of the R # -R "rollers mounted on this same lever. At the third top of these pairs of triangular levers are mounted two WW" pins pushed towards each other by a spring 1. Between the plates D protruding from the cover of the apparatus (' fig. 2) are mounted on pins 2 # - 92 \ * two small plates P # -P " which by the action of the rollers are pressed against the sections of film to impress.
The pins W-IV, "can be moved apart, overcoming the action of the spring 1, by a wedge J which can be controlled from the outside by means which will be described. further.
Under the effect of the spacing of the pins W and W ", the rollers Y-R" and K-K "act simultaneously to release the pressure of the film.
The J wedge is mounted on a 3 lever articulated in 4 on a fixed part of the device. The lever 3 can be operated with by hand from the outside by acting on a button B. In practice, however, this button is only used to release the film so < B> to advance a new section of celLii-below after each trigger.
The advancement of the film by a section having the length of two images (or also of a single one, as we will see later), so to avoid the partial or total superposition of the images , is produced as follows: The film roll introduced into the ma- .gasin II passes along the devices described, which guide it along the U, path and, after passing the second branch of the U, before winding onto the winding reel H ', its marginal perforations engage with the rows of teeth of the drum Y.
The number of each series of teeth is equal to the number of perforations existing on a section of film of a length equal to to two images. The Y drum is mounted on an axis 5, so as to rotate with it while allowing axial movements of the latter. This axis, with its parts projecting beyond the drum, is mounted in brackets (not shown) fixed to the housing of the apparatus.
The axis 5 carries, at its ends, two disks 6 and 6, each of which is provided with two diametrically opposed 7-V and 8-8 ', spindles, having different lengths. Pins 7 and 7 ' may engage the shank formed on a retaining tooth 9, arti abutment on a fixed part of the apparatus and subject to the action. a spring (not shown). On the other hand, the pins 8 and 8 ' can come into engagement with an arm 11, coupled to </ B > another arm terminated by a hook 10. The parts 10 and 11 are in two different planes and are articulated on a common pivot supported by a rigid part of the apparatus and they are both urged in an angular direction by a spring (not shown).
The hook 10 is placed in a position such that, by the action of said spring, it engages with the free end of the lever 3.
On the axis 12 of the winding reel are wedged two toothed wheels 13 and 14. The wheel 14 is a usual gear wheel, while the wheel 13 is a to ratchet wheel which cooperates with a pre-seen 15 pawl tooth at the end of a lever at < / B> two branches 16 articulated on a fixed part of the device and pushed by a spring (not shown), so to push the tooth 15 towards the wheel at ro chet 13. Near tooth 15 is provided a small tooth 17 </ B > which is usually engaged with the hook 9.
The film drive device is connected to the shutter arming, so to avoid overlapping of images.
This connection is performed as follows: The gear wheel 14 is connected, by a gear train or other transmission (shown schematically by the toothed wheel 18) to a wheel gear secured to the to ratchet wheel 20. These two wheels are mounted on a hinge pin, on which the toothed wheel 21 is mounted loose.
This toothed wheel carries a pawl 22, the tooth of which is pushed between the teeth of the ratchet wheel by a spring 23 tooth coming to take in a notch 221 of the ratchet 22 (fig. 5), when a nozzle 25 carried by a rack 26 in, engaged with the wheel toothed 21 engages the projecting end 24 of the pawl 22. The rack 26 is pushed into its rest position by a spring 27, while the wheel to ratchet 19 can turn freely only in the direction of cocking of the shutter and is always stopped in the positions where the tooth of the pawl 22 comes between two teeth of the ratchet 20 .
The wheel 19 can be in in turn engaged with the tooth 28 of a lever 29 which is articulated in 30 on a fixed part of the device and is subjected to the action of a not shown spring tending to move it away from the wheel 19. The lever 29 also has a spout 31 which can come to rest against the end 32 </ B> of the pawl 22 (fig. 5). The free end of the lever 29 is pushed by this spring against a wedge 33 ordered by a button or push button (not shown).
The corner 33 is integral with a bracket 34 which, at one end, ends in a bevelled part 35 and which, at the the other end, carries a pin 36. The bevelled part 35, which for clarity of the drawing has been drawn in its upper position, as it really is, is such that when pushed down, it abuts against the tail of the v ier to two branches 16. D 'on the other hand, the pin 36 can come up against a release lever 43 articulated on a fixed part (the device and pushed by a spring (not shown) against the pin 36, and the end of which 37 is bent at right angles, so as to hold the end of the cocking lever the shutter,
which is urged by a spring 39, engaged with a hook 40 of the rack 26. One end of the rack 26 is in bevel or wedge shape and on its path is arranged a pawl provided with two teeth 41 and 42. This pawl is articulated on a fixed part of the device and is pulled towards the rack 26 by a spring (not shown). In addition, tooth 42 is in the path of the tail of the to two-point lever 16.
The apparatus described has the following advantages: 10 of allowing to press two sections (the film on both sides of the U path without pulling them on both sides of the U and to allow the film to be released when this release is necessary; 20 to allow the film to be fed the exact length of one or two frames, depending on the case, thus avoiding the partial superimposition of the images, or also leaving between the images a larger space; 30 to avoid double exposures by the made that the shutter is cocked at the same time as the film is driven; 4 "to allow the use of the binocular camera as a usual single lens camera.
These advantages will be better understood by the description of the operation which follows. Loading of the apparatus. - After removing the cover C, a reel of usual ci nematographic film H is introduced into the usual magazine, and the end of the film reel is fixed, as usual, to the winding roller H ', Then, by actuating the button B,
the maintenance of Fe _xt free of lever 3 is produced by the 10. The cover C is closed and thus the film is sits angled in a U shape and its perforations engage the double set of teeth of the Y drum.
Release says film. - Once the cover is closed, the wedge J is engaged between the pins W 'and IV "and pushes them back moving them apart, overcoming the action of the spring 1. The pins W-W ', moving away, make the levers S' and S "oscillate a few degrees on their pins d 'articulation Q # -Q "and, consequently, the rollers R' # - R" and KK "are pushed together and the plates P # -P" (fig. 3)
no longer bear against neighboring film sections.
The film can thus slide freely. Arinement de the obturatear. - Once the cover is closed, by turning the reel H 'in the driving direction, the film advances by rotating the drum Y. The gear wheel 14 fixed to </ B > this drum is set in rotation and causes the rotation of the toothed wheel 19 which actuates the graining and the wheel with ratchet 20. A < / B> at this time, the pawl 22 is engaged with the to ratchet wheel 20, while the toothed wheel 19 operates the rack 26 via the toothed wheel 21.
This rack, by sliding, causes the angular movement of the cocking lever 38, which is pulled by the tooth 40 until this that this lever, passing through- above the elbow arm 37 of the release lever 43, is held by the latter.
As a consequence of these movements, the spout 25 of the rack 26 abuts against the end 24 of the ratchet 22 (fig. 5) </ B > and, by overcoming the action of the spring, disengages this pawl from the tooth of the ratchet, so that the tooth to comes out 23, by tilting in the the aforementioned notch of the pawl 22, keeps the latter disengaged from the wheel to ratchet 20. Under these conditions, the gear 21 is idle and is brought into position rest by the rack 26 pushed by the spring 27.
In this position, the end 32 of the eliquet 22 is placed in front of the spout 31 of the lever 29; the lever 38 (the shutter is released by the arm 87 of the lever 48, and the cream. 1st 26 and the hook 40 submitted on the action of the spring 27 releases the cocking lever 38.
-stopping the film. - In order to understand the operation of the film stopping devices, it is necessary to consider that, during the first phase of cocking the shutter, the action of the bevelled end of the rack 26, abutting against tooth 41 of the eliquet, causing the lowering of the (slow 49- under the end of the lever 16 </ B> which, pushed by the spring, turns until its tooth 17 comes bitter against the pawl 9. Under these conditions, the wheel to </ B > roehet 13 can rotate until one of the pins 7 or 7 ',
abutting against the shank of the pawl 9, disengages the hook-shaped end of the latter from the tooth 17 of the lever 16, so that tooth 15 of the ratchet is pushed between the teeth of the wheel at ratchet 13 and prevents a new rotation says drum H, thus stopping the driving of the film.
Shortly before stopping the film, one of the pins 8 or 8 ', , coming into contact with the arm 11, causes the rotation of the hook release 10 which leaves the end of the lever 3 free to swing. Thus, the pins W '- W " are found simultaneously pulled by the spring 1 and push back, the wedge J, and the rollers Ir -K "as well as the plates P # - P" lie apart and press the sections of film to to expose in the local plans.
In their rotation, the 8-8 ' pins come forward of the V-7 pins at such an angle as to allow the 11 arm to return to its rest position before the hook 9 releases the tooth 17, that is to say before it pulls it film is stopped, and this so that after release of the shutter, the lever 3 can be maintained by the tooth 10 under the action of this trigger.
If the apparatus is set up such that the length of the film between each pair of images exposed at the same time is equal to a the length of two images, the entire film, to < / B> except for the second image, will be exposed. C this is achieved by providing two sets of teeth on the Y tanibur, so that the number of teeth in each set will be equal to the number of perforations existing in an equivalent length of film < B> to two images.
By also providing on the disc 6 -a spindle 7 ', in a position diametrically opposite to the spindle 7, </ B> and on the disc 6 ' -a pin 8', diametrically opposite to the pin 8, and by moving by any means (not shown) in the axial direction the axis which carries the two disks 6 and 6 ', the film drive can be stopped to each half-turn of the Y drum, that is: -that is, to each length of film equals to a single frame.
The latter possibility can be used even if the device is to be used as a single-lens device and, in this case, devices intended to move these discs can also operate certain devices to leave closed -He only shutter or otherwise to shut off a single lens.
Shutter control. - In order to allow the line to be driven after an image has been taken, the following devices are provided: It must be taken into account that The film is stopped each time the 15 pawl tooth engages the to ratchet wheel 13.
By pushing the trigger member 34, the following operation occurs: 11, The pin 36, by acting on the lever 43, raises the arm 37 which releases the trigger the shutter.
20 The wedge 35 is lowered and abuts against the end of the lever 16, forcing it to turn past the end of ratchet 42 when spindle 7 has released tooth 9 wrench tooth 17 and tooth 41 has been moved by the end rack during the cocking operation.
30 The corner 33 oblIges the lever 29 to rotate around the joint 30, thus pushing the spout 31 against the end 32 of the ratchet 22. The end to comes out 23 thus comes out of the slot che 221, by causing the engagement of the tooth of the pawl 29 with the wheel to ratchet #_) 0 and producing the coupling of the wheels 19 </ B > and 21, which allows a new cycle of arming the shutter. 1 The eliquet 44 and the nozzle 28 serve < B> to ensure that the wheel 20, coupled to the wheel 19 and having the same number of teeth as the latter,
always presents to this click and a space between two teeth.
It is obvious that the optical part of the positive device can be used to examine non-inverted stereoscopic images taken by conventional binocular apparatus.
In fact, if the objectives of the de- crit apparatus are replaced by a pair of eyepieces and if in agreement with the focal planes two diffusing surfaces are provided, the images will be inverted by the device and we will obtain a stereoscopic vision.
