<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La pellicule, sortant hors de la botte à travers la fente d'émission 19, est ensuite reprise et passée à travers la fente 20 pour faire retour dans la botte après avoir été impressionnée. Dans ce but la bobine réceptrice $ est munie d'une langue 24 (fig. 4) en tôle mince portant plusieurs entailles transversales;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Improvements to film photographic machines"
The present invention relates to improvements in film photographic machines employed to obtain photograms of considerably larger format than that of ordinary cinematographic photograms.
The object of the invention is a device aimed at obtaining the exact flattening on the focal plane, at the time of the opening of the shutter, of the portion of film to be impressed; it also relates to the various devices intended to transmit the movement both to the organs contained in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
darkroom than 1 * shutter.
In the accompanying drawing schematically illustrating a practical embodiment of the indication:
Fig. 1 is the main mid-section of the boot with the film applied to a photographic machine which is assumed in the drawing to have the lens facing to the right.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the device for pressing the film onto the window of the sash.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the curtain shutter which carries the rollers intended for. perform the exact flattening of the film.
Figures 4 to 9 relate to details of the devices ensuring the transmission of the movement.
As shown in the drawing, the film is wound on reels 2 and 6 enclosed in a bundle 1 placed in the darkroom; the transmission reel 2, it passes under the roller 3, rests on the focal plane A, 5 B, passes under the roller 4 and enters the box by winding itself on the receiving reel 6.
The portion of film which rests on the focal plane is made to lie between the edges of a window, which has an opening exactly equal to that of the chamber made in the lower frame 7, and an upper movable plate 8. , which covers / exactly that window.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
At the time of printing the film, the movement of a cam (fig. 1 and 2) causes, by means of the lever 10, the connecting rods 11 and the springs 12, a lowering of the movable plate 8, and the latter exerts pressure on the film, keeping it in perfect adhesion with the frame window 7.
At the same time the curtain shutter supported by the frame 14 is located in correspondence with this window and two rollers 15, carried by the frame 14 pass through the window and rest on the film, the roller being held in position. adhesion with the window by the springs 16 sliding on a polished plane 17,
By sliding quickly, the curtain causes the film to print through the slit 18 and the exact flattening of the film even on the tray 8 by means of the rollers 15.
As has been said, the film holder box 1 contained in the chamber contains both the transmitting coil and the receiving coil, the chamber being provided with housings for the pivots of the coils 2-6. on which is threaded the box 1.
The film, exiting out of the boot through the emission slot 19, is then taken up and passed through the slot 20 to return to the boot after being impressed. For this purpose the receiving coil $ is provided with a tongue 24 (Fig. 4) of thin sheet metal bearing several transverse notches;
EMI3.1

<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
this tongue protrudes into the black flesh and the notches * serve to secure the film to the spool 6 which, by turning, transports it inside the boot and winds it up.
The movements of the film and the shutter are regulated as it says below:
On the shaft 22 (main shaft of the photographic machine, moved by a suitable source of force by means of interposed members not shown in the drawing and continuously kept in rotation during the operation of the machine) is mounted a cam 9, which serves to periodically cause the lowering of the movable plate 8 on the film and the lifting of the same plate after printing.
On the main shaft 22 is also mounted a wheel 23 which meshes with the wheel 24, idle on the axis 25 of the roller 4. The wheel 24 carries a tooth 27 which, rotating at the same time as the wheel, drives a cam 26 with two diametrically opposed teeth, a cam integral with the axis 25 of this roller, on which is also mounted. The wheel 23 carries a projection 28 for lifting the tooth 27, disengaging it from the cam when the wheel has completed a rotation of 1800 from its initial position; once the tooth is released, the cam stops at point 29 and with it the roller 4 stops, the movement of these parts being resumed @
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
when, after a second rotation of 180 of the wheel 24, the tooth is lowered again on the cam at the point 30 diametrically opposite to the breast 29.
The device described constitutes an automatically disengaged connection between the wheel 23 and the roller 4, by means of which one obtains the intermittent rotation of the roller 4, the temporary stopping of the roller 4 producing, as a consequence, the stopping of the film at each stage of printing.
The simultaneity of the movement of the roller 4 and of the receiving spool 6 is obtained by means of a device consisting of an idle wheel 31 on the axis 25 of the roller and provided with two diametrically opposed teeth 32; these teeth mesh with the ratchet wheel 33 integral with the cam 26 (and, consequently, with the roller 4); consequently, when the cam 26 rotates at the same time as the roller 4, the wheel 31 is also set in motion.
The wheel meshes in turn with the wheel 34, idle on the axis 35 of the spool, this axis being able to be made integral with the bbbine by acting on a button 37 so as to exert a traction on the square pivot with eclipse 36. The movement of the wheel 34 is transmitted to the spool 6 by means of a friction joint adjusted by the screws 38, so as to compensate for variations in winding of the film on the spool.
It should be noted that when, in char- @ --- -
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
giant the chamber, we turn the coil 6 by hand by means of the button 37. we leave the roller 4 motionless since the wheel 31 turns in the opposite direction to that which allows it to mesh with the ratchet wheel 33 '
The click of the curtain shutter is regulated by a device consisting of the wheel 39 (pin 8) mounted on the main shaft 22 and engages. nant with the wheel 40, idle on the axis 41 on which is also idle a wheel 42 carrying a cam 43.
The wheel 42 meshes with the wheel 14 which is used for char-. manage the roller with the curtain on 1 * axis 4 ?. The rotation of the wheel 39 is transmitted to the wheel 40 and produces the lifting of the tooth 46 integral with the wheel 40 when it comes into correspondence with the camd 47 integral with the wheel 39 The tooth 46, when it is raised, drives the cam 43, on which it is supported, and consequently, goes rotates the wheel 42 which transmits the movement to the curtain wheel.
Each time the tooth 46 is lifted, the curtain is released and the release occurs under the action of a spring wound on the pivot 50 (fig.
1), the curtain itself being unloaded immediately afterwards, ie when the tooth 46, in its rotation, finds the cam.
The roller 4 is fitted with a device serving to drive the film and to mark the position of each photogram. This device (fig. 9)
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
consists of two double punches 51 fixed on the two heads of the roller; punches being pushed against the film by means of rollers 52 and cam 53, so that their projecting points pierce the film; one of these punches drives the film all its way on the outer semi-circle C, and both are reversed when passing through the outer semi-circle D by the effect of the cam and the opposite pivot.
The chamber is completed by a semicircular shaped cover which covers its entire surface, protecting it from light during operation.
