Process for the preparation of a metal-containing azo dye. It has been found that this leads to a new valuable, metal-containing azo dye
EMI0001.0003
correspond, allows cobalt-releasing agents to act in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is formed which contains one molecule of each of the two starting monoazo dyes bonded to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new metal-containing dye is a brown powder that dissolves in water with a red-brown color and in concentrated sulfuric acid with an orange-brown color and dyes wool from weakly alkaline, neutral or weakly acetic acid baths in orange-brown shades of good lightfastness and washfastness.
The two monoazo dyes used as starting materials in the present process can be prepared by methods known per se by mixing diazotized 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-sulfonic acid amide with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and diazotized 4-nitro -6-acetylamino-2-amino-l-oxybenzene coupled with 4-tertiaryamyl-l-oxybenzene in an alkaline agent.
When carrying out the process, it is generally advisable to use a mixture of the two monoazo dyes corresponding to the formulas
EMI0001.0022
total of about 2 moles of monoazo be standing and each about 1 mole of the two dyes used as starting materials ent; holding mixture to use an amount of a cobalt-releasing agent containing about one gram atom of cobalt and / or to carry out the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline agent.
For example, complex cobalt compounds of aliphatic o-oxycarboxylic acids which contain cobalt in complex bonds are particularly suitable as cobalt-releasing agents for carrying out the process. As examples of aliphatic oxycarboxylic acids, u. a. Lactic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid and especially tartaric acid can be mentioned. Simple cobalt compounds, e.g. B.
Salts of divalent cobalt such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate and. optionally cobalt hydroxide can also be used as a cobalt releasing agent.
The conversion of the dyes into the complex cobalt compounds takes place with advantage in the heat, openly or under pressure, e.g. B. at 70 to 75, optionally in the presence of suitable additives, e.g. B. in the presence of salts of organic acids, bases, organic solvents or white direct means that promote complex formation.
Example: 4.0 parts of the sodium salt of the dye from diazotized 4-nitro-6-acetylamino-2-amino-l-oxybenzene and 4-tertiaryamyl-1-oxybenzene and 3.95 parts of the sodium salt of the dye diazotized 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-sulfonic acid amide and 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, both dyes in the form of a moist paste (filter cake) are stirred in 300 parts of water and mixed with a solution of 3 parts len crystallized cobalt sulfate, 0,
75 parts @ vartic acid in 20 parts of water and 3 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution for one hour at 70-75. The cobalt mixed complex formed in the process partially crystallizes out. It is completely separated by adding sodium chloride, filtered and dried.
