Apparatus for dispensing pasty and liquid substances. The object of the present invention is an apparatus for dispensing (pasty and liquid substances, such as soaps or other detergents, toiletries, medicinal preparations, foods, etc., having different degrees of viscosity. .
The subject device. of the invention is of the type comprising a body having a chamber and a socket intended to receive the neck of a receptacle, removable inverted container. the. substance to be dispensed, a piston capable of coming and going to distribute a determined quantity of said substance through a discharge orifice opening downwards when the apparatus is in position (operation, and means for actuating said piston from the exterior of said body.
It is characterized in that said actuating means comprise. a lever which extends downward from the bottom of said body, behind said discharge port, the latter lying in the plane of movement of the lever bed, in that the discharge port is capable of closing by itself and in that it comprises means for adjusting the stroke of said piston and, therefore, the quantity of substance dispensed, the whole being arranged in such a way that said determined quantity of substance is expelled through said orifice discharge each time said lever is pulled forward and under the sole effect of the pressure generated by the movement of said piston.
I-I accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus which is the subject of the invention, designed to dispense soap paste.
Fig. 1 is a vertical axial section of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a partial view from behind, with a console removed to show parts which are normally hidden.
Fig. 3 is a section along III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section along IV-IV of FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a wall console comprising this embodiment.
Fig. 6 is a partial side elevation thereof, part in section along VI-VI of FIG. 3, the different parts being in the same positions as in FIG. 1.
Fig. 7 is a partial side elevation thereof, the parts shown in section in FIG. 6 being seen from the outside.
The fi-. 8 is a partial side elevation thereof, part in section along VIII-VIII of FIG. 3, showing the container separated from the body and the body separated from a wall bracket.
Figs. 9 and 10 are perspective views of an elastic tip and a rigid nozzle respectively. Fig. 11 is a perspective view of a key for locking the body to the wall bracket.
The apparatus comprises a body 1 which is provided, at its upper part, with a sleeve 2, of circular shape, open upwards and designed to receive the neck 3 of also circular shape of a non-recoverable container 4. which can be molded paper, metal, glass, etc., and which contains soap paste. When the body is in the operating position, as shown in fig. 1, the container. 4 is in the inverted position. At the lower part of the body 1 is provided a cylinder 5 disposed horizontally and projecting rearwardly from the front wall, the front end of cylinder 5 being permanently closed by a plate 6.
To facilitate the machining of hole 7 of the cylinder, the rear part 42 of the body 1 has a hole 8 which is aligned with the troll 7 and closed by a socket 9. The open rear end of the cylinder 5 freely communicates with a main chamber. 10 which leads directly, through a wide intake opening 11, into the interior of the sleeve 2 provided, as will be seen below, to engage the neck 3 of the container 4.
Behind the chamber 10 and the bush 2 surmounting said chamber, the body 1 comprises a housing 12 integral with it, open at the rear and at the bottom. An ankle 13 is provided transversely in the upper part of the housing 12, this ankle being supported horizontally in two bosses 1.4 (see FIG. 2), and a key control lever 7.5 is freely mounted on the ankle 13 by its upper end. The lower part of the lever 15 passes through the opening provided at the bottom of the housing 12, so as to protrude below the body 1.
At an intermediate point of its length, the lever 15 has an opening 16 providing a passage for the rear end of a piston rod 17 to which the lever 15 is pivotally connected by a transverse pin 18 forming a pivot and mounted. in two bosses 19 provided on the lever 1.5. A part of the. rod 17 is slidably supported in a hole 20 of the sleeve 9, and a compression spring 21, surrounding the rod 17, is provided between the sleeve 9 and the lever 15, so that the latter is normally forced into the limit position of its rearward travel, as shown in solid lines in FIG. 1.
The extent of the forward movement of the lever 15 is determined by the maximum possible compression of the spring 21. The rearward stroke of the lever 15 is variable, as it is determined by the. position of an adjustment screw 22 mounted on a lan guard 23 of the lever 15. The tongue 23 extends beyond the point of suspension of the lever 15, said adjustment screw 22 being. seen to come into contact with the inner surface of the housing 12, to stop the lever 15. Thus the stroke of the rod 17 can vary, but only by adjusting the rest position of the lever 15 with which the adjustment means are associated, so that this lever always pivots to a constant forward position indicated in dotted lines in fig. 1.
On the front part of the rod 17 are mounted a non-perforated closing plate 24, preferably of an elastic material such as felt, leather or a suitable rubber, this plate being clamped between two rigid washers 25 fixed on the. front half of the rod 7.7, and a perforated plate 26, which is attached to. front end. of the rod 17. The plates 24 and 26 are provided to come into contact with the opposite ends of a thick ring 27 which constitutes a piston and which is capable of sliding in the hole 7 of the cylinder 5. This ring 27 surrounds the rod 17 and is free to move relative to the latter between the plates 24 and 26. The thickness of the ring 27 is less than the distance separating them.
On the lower face of the front end of the body 1, there is provided a threaded boss 28 having at its upper part an outlet light 29 which leads. in the front end of the cylinder 5. A nozzle 30, made of metal or other rigid material, is screwed into the boss 28 and supports a nozzle 31, of molded rubber. The end piece 31 has an end 32 with flattened faces (see Fig. 9) pierced with a tent 33 which constitutes a discharge orifice normally closed due to the inherent elasticity of the constituent material. the mouthpiece.
The discharge orifice therefore closes on its own; it is located in the plane of movement of the lever 15 and opens downwards from the hole 7 of the cylinder 5. The end 32 of the nozzle is housed in a circular opening 34 and disposed in the center of the ex hollow end 35 of the nozzle 30 (see Fig. 10), the shape of the opening 34 allowing. at the flattened and split end 32 of the nozzle. 31 <le dilate to a point. determined to let pass the dough which must. be distributed. Openings 36 are provided in the wall (the end 35 of the nozzle in order to allow a tool to be fitted to this nozzle to facilitate its assembly and disassembly.
The end piece 31 comprises a flange 37 which is clamped between the upper face 38 of the nozzle 30 and the bottom of the boss 28.
The edge of the neck 3 of the upturned container q is clamped against a seal. of rubber 39 which is supported by a washer .10, practically rigid, for example metal. The washer 40 rests on a bearing surface 43 extending between a part of the body which surrounds the chamber 10 and a part of this body which constitutes the side walls of the sleeve 2.
The rubber gasket 39 and washer 40 are provided to fit tightly in the socket 2, but they are not attached and can thus be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. The tightening occurs by engaging a certain number of inclined tabs 44 spaced at the periphery of the neck 3 of the container, with a complementary series of tabs -15 provided on the sleeve 2.
Tabs 4-5 are circumferentially spaced such that tabs 44 of the neck of the container can. move freely between them, a movement. limited rotation of the body 1 relative to the container -1 ensuring an engagement of the legs 44 and 45. The inclination of the legs 44 has the effect of forcing the neck. \ l against the seal. of rubber 39 and to compress the latter, thus ensuring a tight seal between the receptacle -1 and the body 1. of the apparatus.
Due to the manufacturing tolerances required for the position of the tabs 44 of the container neck relative to the edge of the neck 3, it is important to be able to raise or lower the surface of the rubber seal 39 with which the edge of the neck comes in contact, and this adjustment can be done easily by choosing gaskets 39 and washers 40 before the appropriate thickness, taking into account that the angle of inclination of the tabs 44 of the neck determines the degree of compression in the rubber gasket 39 To increase the limits of adjustment, the seat 43 can be formed by the outer end of an interchangeable ring seal chosen from a series of similar linings.
If desired, an interchangeable gasket of this type can be fixed in a simple cylindrical socket corresponding to the chamber 10 by fastening means which are inaccessible when the apparatus is mounted in the position of use, this gasket having lugs similar to the lugs .15 of the sleeve 2 and a bearing similar to the bearing 43, to support a rubber seal such as the seal 39, with or without a washer 40.
To prevent accidental removal from the container. 4 of the body 1, the container. -1 is. locked to the body 1 by means of an ankle 6 (fis. 3, 6 and. 8), slidably mounted. in a hole 47 made in a locking block, e 48 provided in the upper part. Housing 12 and in a position such that one end of said pin 46 can protrude into the sleeve 2 of the body 1, in alignment with the tabs 44 of the neck.
When the peg 46 is in this position, the container cannot. rotate relatively to the body only at a very small angle or even not chi at all. The ankle 46 is normally hand held in an unlocked position by a compression spring -19, an excessive displacement of the ankle 46 being outward. prevented by a fixed transverse pin 50 provided to abut against one end of a recess formed in the pin 46. The spring 49 is housed in a hole 51 in which a head 52 of the bolt 46 can slide.
The pin 46 is automatically moved to a locking position of the container, against the action of the spring 49 (see fig. 6), and it is held in this position when the body is assembled. 1 on a plain base console or fixing 53. The console 53 (fi-. 5) comprises a plate 54 allows both to fix the console against a wall or against any other suitable surface, said. plate 54 having two grooves forming lateral gaudes 55, converging and open, provided to receive ribs 56 forming. laterally protrusions which are provided on the opposite outer faces of the housing 12 of the body 1.
The plate 54 has three holes 57 intended to receive fixing screws 58, with a countersunk head, an inclined ramp 59 extending from the upper edge of the plate 54, and a hole 60 intended to receive the protruding end 61 of a pin 62 for locking the body, mounted in a blind hole 63 of the body 1, offset from the locking pin 46 of the container and parallel thereto. The peg 62 serves to lock the body 1 on the plate 54 and it has four circumferential grooves 64, very close to each other, roughly in the. middle region of its length. A spring.
compression 65 est. placed between the closed end of the hole 63 and the recessed rear end (the peg 62, to project the end 61 of the latter through an opening made in a closing disc 66 which is fixed at the end opening of the hole 63 and which holds the peg 62 in the hole. An open plug 67 is forced into a recess provided in one side of the block 48 at the top of the housing 12, such that the outer face of the stopper 67 is in the plane of the side face of housing 12, stopper 67 being held in place by any means (the appropriate fixing in such a way that it cannot be easily removed by unauthorized persons.
An opening 68 formed in the stopper 67 is star-shaped, the notches constituting this opening being cut with precision as to their number, their dimensions and. their spacing. The opening 68 is provided for the passage of a rod 69 of a key 70 (fig. 11), the cross section of the rod 69 having a shape complementary to that (the opening 68.
When the key 70 has been correctly inserted into a transverse passage 71 provided in the block 48, the cylindrical end 72 of the key 70 is. housed in a hole 73 provided in the block 48 @ and aligned axially with the opening 68 of the stopper 67. The passage 71 communicates with the holes 47 and 63 in which respectively slide the pin 46 for locking the container and the pin 62 locking the body, so that if a specific key 70 is introduced, the teeth of the rod 69 engage with the grooves 64 of the pin 62.
For the. setting up the device, the. elie-ville 62 can. thus be moved by the key so as to erase the end 61 and. to allow the body 1 to slide on the console 53. When the key 70 is withdrawn, the city plug 62 is pushed forward by the spring. 65, so as to engage in the hole 60 of the plate 54.
While the body 1. is mounted on the tray 54, an inclined face of the. head 52 of pin 46 comes into contact with inclined ramp 59 of plate 54, so that container locking pin 46 is moved against the action of its spring. 49 and that its opposite end has spring, comes to engage automatically. between two adjacent tabs 44 of the neck 3 of the container, in the sleeve 5.
The rear edge 74 of the housing. 12 covers the upper edge and the side edges of the upper part of the plate 54, so that it is impossible to insert a tool behind the body 1 when the latter is in place, to release it. body locking pin 62 1. The holes 57 provided in the plate 54 are arranged such that the fixing screws (see fig. 6) which hold the plate 54 against a wall 75 are inaccessible when the body 1 is mounted on the plate 54.
The opposite ends 76 of each tab 44 of the neck of the container are perpendicular to the surface of the neck 3, so that any attempt to remove the container 4 from the body 1 is frustrated by one of these square ends 76 which comes into contact with the protruding end of the ankle 46.
By modifying the number and shape of the tabs 44 of the neck or of the tabs 45 of the sleeve or of the tabs of these two parts, it is possible to prevent an inappropriate container 4 from being connected to the body 1. In the form execution shown, the tabs 44 of the neck are inclined, but it is obvious that the legs 45 can also be inclined or be alone inclined.
To facilitate the flow of the paste or the liquid in the chamber 10, there is provided an air inlet tube 77 which is fixed in a boss 41 made in the upper part of the chamber 1.0, so that when a container 4 has been mounted on the body 1, the tube 77 is located in the container. The lower end of the tube 77 communicates with one end of a passage 78 provided in the boss 47 and perpendicular to the tube 77, the other end of the passage 78 emerging. inside the housing 12. The tube 77 is preferably removable to facilitate packaging of the device for transport or storage.
At the outer end of the tube 77 is provided a rubber cap 79 which prevents anything. passage through the tube 77 of the substance contained in the container, through the upper opening of the tube or through a hole 80. The cap 79 includes an upper part which covers the end of the tube extending beyond the hole 80. This part has a smaller diameter (read the rest of the cap, so it must be stretched to fit on the tube 77. The larger diameter part of the cap 79 is not stretched when it is placed on the tube. tube 77.
Lie so that air passing through tube 77 from passage 78 can escape freely through hole 80 and the space between tube 77 and the larger diameter portion of cap 79, and thence into the hole. inside the container. The substance contained in the container cannot, however, penetrate sufficiently far into the cap 79 to penetrate inside the tube through the hole 80.
When a container 4 is to be mounted on the apparatus, this container preferably being that in which the substance to be dispensed is sold commercially, an original stopper is removed from the neck. 3 and the body 1 of the apparatus is turned over so that the sleeve 2 can be placed on the neck 3 of the container. The body 1 is then rotated slightly on the container 4 or simultaneously and in the opposite direction the body and the container, so that the tabs 44 of the container engage with the tabs 45 of the socket. The whole constituted by the receptacle, and the body mounted one on the other is. then turned over and attached to the wall bracket 53.
By fixing the body 1 carrying the container 4 turned upside down on the plate 54, the container is automatically locked. 4 on the body 1 by means of the. ankle 46, as described above.
When the appliance is to be used to dispense a certain quantity of substance contained in the container 4, for example soap paste, the user acts on the control lever 15 by pulling the lower end of the handle forward. this lever. The piston rod 1.7, acting against the action of its spring 21, moves forward the plate 24 which closes the opening made in the ring 27, faeon. thus trapping in the ring in front of the plate 24 a load of soap paste.
The piston shown, with a one-way inlet valve, is. shown to be effective, even if the soap paste is crystallized, as occurs. at low temperatures. As the movement of the lever continues, the plate 24 moves the sliding ring 27 forward. and the soap paste is also pushed to. through the lumen 29 in the interior of the nozzle 31, held in the nozzle 30 and in the opening 34; the. pressure thus exerted does. expand the nozzle 31 and ensure the opening of the discharge port 33, the soap paste being.
then expelled by this. orifice 33 and received, for example, in the hand (facing upwards) of the hand with which the user actuates the lever 7.5. The distance that the piston rod 1.7 moves determines the quantity of soap paste dispensed. The maximum quantity of soap paste dispensed for a single stroke of the piston is set by acting on the screw 22 which carries the lever 15. The quantity of soap paste dispensed could also be adjusted to. advance by acting on the tension of the res comes out of the piston, on the. maximum stroke of the lever, on the relative position of the piston and the plate 24, on the thickness of the plate 24 or in any other way.
In an apparatus of the type described, it is important to size the control lever 15 such that the limit of the forward stroke of the piston is. reached when the lower end of the control lever is at a distance of approximately 38 mm from the discharge opening, so that the charge of soap paste is discharged onto the fingers or into the palm of the hand operating the lever 15.
When the lever 15 is released, the spring 21 brings the lever 15 back as well as the rod 17, the plates 24 and 26, the latter returning the ring 27 to its rest position. The return movement of these parts decreases the pressure exerted on the compressed mass of soap paste The cylinder 5 is not completely emptied with each operation and the discharge port 33 of the elastic nozzle 31 closes on its own. mouthpiece 31 and nozzle 30 are removable and can be changed, the slot provided in the mouthpiece and constituting the discharge port may have various dimensions. The inverted container 4 can be protected by a suitable box placed on it and which may have a watch strap capable of being locked on the plate 54.
In this case, the locking pin 46 can be omitted. The box for protecting the container may end at a certain distance above the body of the apparatus so that the neck of the container is visible below. of the box. If container 4 is. in glass, one can easily. see when it is. empty and when to replace it.
