Carding machine. The present invention relates to a carding machine, in particular for cotton.
This machine is characterized by a secondary feed cylinder disposed below a primary feed cylinder, the secondary feed cylinder having a diameter smaller than that of the primary cylinder and having a greater peripheral speed. than that of the primary feed cylinder, the secondary feed cylinder being arranged, relative to the primary cylinder and to the carding drum, so that it removes at least most of the fibers of the primary feed cylinder mayor and: delivers them to the carding drum.
In a particular embodiment, the secondary feed cylinder is covered with a lining of metal wires, these wires being thinner than those of the Turkish lining of the primary feed cylinder.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, a partial cross section of an embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention.
The machine shown includes a carding pad A, rotating on a shaft a, walking caps B, a primary feed cylinder C, a D feed table and a feed cylinder. d, parts which are all of a commonly known construction and arrangement.
A secondary feed cylinder E is. mounted below said feed cylinder. primary tion C, in bearings carried by the side frames of the machine.
These bearings are preferably adjustable to allow adjustment, said cylinder in correlation with the primary cylinder C and the drum A.
The secondary feed cylinder E is covered with a lining of metallic threads e. similar to gasket c of primary cylinder C, but preferably in finer threads than those of gasket c.
Cylinder E has a smaller diameter than cylinder C and is rotated with a greater surface speed than the latter cylinder. The two cylinders C "and E turn in the same direction, but in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the car drum A. The lining of cylinder E therefore circulates in the opposite direction to that of the lining of cylinder C at point where they touch.
The appropriate diameters and rotational speeds of the primary feed cylinder C and of the secondary feed cylinder E cooperating with a 1.30 m diameter carding drum, rotating at 160 revolutions per minute, are: cylinder C: 241 cm in diameter, 400 revolutions per minute; cylinder E: 113 cm in diameter, 1260 turns. It will be understood that these diameters and speeds are only given by way of example.
Cl cleaning knives are arranged under the primary feed cylinder C and a casing C1, bearing. grid bars c-, extends from the knife, front cleaner cl to a position near the periphery of the secondary feed cylinder E.
The cleaning knives el are arranged under the secondary feed cylinder E substantially in the same relative position with respect to the latter as the cleaning knife cl with respect to the cylinder C and the space between the anterior cleaning knife el and the carding drum is covered by a curved metal casing El carrying transverse grid bars C =.
A curved casing G, bolted or otherwise secured to the sides of the frame, extends from the rear cleaning knife e 'to the casing Cl under the primary feed cylinder C and a supplementary part Gl, of approximately triangular cross section, is disposed in the space formed between the two feed cylinders C and E and the frame drum A.
The fibers are supplied to the primary feed cylinder C in the usual way - for the food cylinder c1 and are transported in a circular path through cylinder C to the point where the latter meets the secondary feed cylinder. E.
The threads of the lining e of cylinder E, which move at this point in the opposite direction to the threads of the lining c clii cylinder C, then remove most of the fibers from the threads of the lining c and carry them along a circular path beyond the casing C and the cleaning knives and up to the carding drum A, the thread lining of which removes them from the lining e in the usual way. All fibers not removed from the yarn packing c of the primary feed cylinder C by the
Yarn packing and the secondary feed drum E are transported forward by cylinder C to carding drum A.
The carding machine shown and described, provided with a secondary feed cylinder E arranged and operating as described above, has an additional cleaning effect on the fibers and also produces a low cleaning action. combing or a paralleling action thereon between the two feed rollers.
