Sealed tin can.
The present invention relates to sealed cans, preferably metallic, intended to contain fluid or powdered products, and more particularly tin cans hermetically sealed by crimping and containing food liquids such as fruit juices. , beer, milk, etc., or any industrial liquid, such as varnish, colors, solvents and liquid cleaning products, etc.
An object of the invention is to make it possible to empty the box without having to resort to a special tool, such as a can opener.
The tin can according to the present invention is characterized in that it has a flow orifice formed in the cover of the can, and that it is provided with a rigid lever fixed flat and across said cover, so as to cover said orifice, the means for fixing the lever to the cover making it possible to ensure the leaktight closure of the flow orifice.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, four embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial axial section of the first form of execution.
The end. 9 is a perspective view.
Fig. 3 is a partial axial section of the second embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the operation of opening a box according to the third embodiment.
Fig. 5 is a partial axial section of the third embodiment.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view, and
fig. 7 is a partial axial eoupe of the fourth embodiment.
Referring to fig. 1 and 2, we see at 1 the cylindrical body of the tin can and at 2 its cover, with the usual crimped rim.
A flow hole 4, of relatively small diameter, is drilled in the cover 2, near the rim 3 of this cover. A stamped lever in one piece and having a ribbed body with a flat bottom 5 and a raised end 6, forming a handle, is fixed diametrically through the cover 2, so as to cover and plug the hole 4 with the aid of a circular weld line 7 surrounding this hole 4 and at the same time forming the hermetic closure of said hole 4. The free end of the raised part 6 is notched at 8, so as to form a claw.
The operation of this embodiment is very simple; when it is desired to empty the box, the raised end 6 of the lever 5 is lifted by inserting the thumbnail under the nail 8. In doing so, the opposite welded end of the lever 5 is detached, breaking the annular line of weld 7 surrounding the hole 4. The liquid contents of the box can then either be consumed on the spot using the box itself as a drinking vessel, by introducing through the opening 4 a suction tube such as a straw, or by emptying the box of its contents into a glass or any other receptacle through said opening 4, after having drilled at least a second hole in the box, for example using a piercing point formed on the lever 5, as will be described later.
It should be noted that the device for leaktight closing and manual opening of a tin can described above can be easily adapted to any known metal can without it being necessary to change anything in the manufacture of this. box, except to drill the hole 4 in the cover 2.
It should also be noted that the size of the device is so small that it can be housed entirely inside the rim 3 of the cover 2 of the box, without any part of the device protruding above or beyond. of this ledge 3.
In the second embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the hole 4 is drilled in the cover 2 in the center of a small circular reinforcing nerve 9, in which is permanently engaged a rubber ring 10 projecting above the upper level of the cover 2. In In this embodiment, the lever 5 is anchored at one of its ends in a pivot notch 11 formed by slightly bending inwards a part of the circular rim 3.
The opposite end of the lever 5 is bent at 12 so as to match the diametrically opposite part of this rim 3, when this end 12 of the lever 5 is pressed downwards, so as to compress the ring 10 and, in doing so, to hermetically close the opening 4. In this lowered position, the nail 8, forming the end of the curved part 12 of the lever 5, is shaped so as to press elastically against the adjacent lower part of the rim 3, so to elastically lock the lever 5 in its active position of closing the hermetic seal formed by the rubber ring 10. To open the box, simply engage the nail under the nail 8 and lift the end 12 of the lever 5.
In the event that only part of the liquid content of the box is to be used, as the rubber ring 10 remains permanently fixed in the rib 9, the lever 5 can be put back in place, so as to close sealingly opening 4 as often as desired.
In the third embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the hole 4 is drilled at the bottom of an approximately spherical depression 13, formed by stamping in the cover 2 near the circular edge 3 of this cover. In the lever 5 is formed at one end a hole 14, facing the hole 4 of the cover 2, while at the other end is formed, by punching and partial cutting of a small triangular part, a piercing point 15, extending downward between this raised end of the lever and the cover 2.
In this form, the lever 5 is fixed to the box 1 before the operation of placing the bottom of the box and before the operation of filling said box. This fixing is carried out by placing the lever 5 on the cover 2 so that the holes 14 and 4 are located one above the other, and by pouring liquid latex between two dies placed on either side. holes 4 and 14. After removal of the two dies and solidification of the latex, a seal or biconvex lens 16 is thus formed, consisting of a part filling the depression 13 and a part extending over the upper surface of the lever 5, these two parts being connected by the mass of latex having flowed through the hole 14.
This lens 16 not only hermetically seals the hole 4, but also ensures the fixing of the lever 5 to the cover 2 of the box.
The operation of this embodiment is as follows:
When it is desired to open the box 1, the end of the lever 5 opposite the seal 16 is strongly pressed downwards so as to pierce, using the point 15, a small ventilation hole in the cover 2. This done, one engages the nail of the thumb under the nail 8 and one raises the lever 5, so as to detach or tear off the latex seal 16 from the bottom of the depression 13 and one withdraws the lever 5 so as to uncover the drain hole 4.
In the fourth embodiment (fig. 7), the lever 5 is held in its active closed position on the cover 2 of the box by the wedging of a slightly conical circular depression 17, stamped in the lever 5, in a corresponding depression 18, stamped in the cover 2 around the flow orifice 4. When the cone 17 is thus forced into the cone 18, a rubber washer 19 is pressed, interposed between the lever 5 and the cover 2 around the cone 17 and which seals the closure.
Several modifications could be made to the four embodiments described above.
For example, in the form of Figs. 3 and 4. the clamp 12 of the lever 5 could be replaced by an inverted end forced and wedged against the inner periphery of the rim 3 of the box, which rim would then present a second part pushed inwards 11, diametrically opposed to the first .
