Die ältesten und bekanntesten Kunstleder sind aus Textilgeweben hergestellt, auf welche eine wasserbeständige Schicht aus elastischem organischem Material aufgebracht ist. Gewisse lederähnliche Eigenschaften werden durch eine aufkaschierte Kunststoff-Folie erzielt oder durch einen Farbfilm, der nach wieder holtem Aufstreichen eines Kunststofflackes usw. auf das Gewebe entsteht;
Artificial leather and method of making the same. The present invention relates to a new type of artificial leather, i. H. a plastic that can be used in place of leather due to its leather-like properties.
The oldest and best-known artificial leathers are made of textile fabrics to which a water-resistant layer made of elastic organic material is applied. Certain leather-like properties are achieved by a laminated plastic film or by a color film that is created after repeated painting of a plastic varnish, etc. on the fabric;
the fabric itself only gives the product the necessary strength. The synthetic leather fabric produced in this way is often just as kink-resistant and durable as real leather and even surpasses this in terms of its water resistance, but it is not permeable to air, so it is not breathable, and its strength properties are far inferior to natural leather.
1> The other large group of artificial leather includes non-woven artificial leather. They are obtained by adding a uniform layer of loose, matted cotton, rayon or cellulose fibers, d. s. Textile or paper fleeces that have practically no durability, such as impregnation with a binder and gives it a leather-like character because of it.
The fleece leather is, similar to real leather, a sheet of non-fully oriented fibers that are held together by the binding agent or the cement substance. The strength values therefore depend largely on the binder, but always remain well below the relevant values for natural leather. As with real leather, the fleece synthetic leather is interspersed with cavities and capillaries.
At a certain intermediate production stage, it also has air permeability; However, this is lost again because the non-woven synthetic leather, after impregnation, is given a sealing film overlay with several coats of lacquer in order to increase the otherwise all too low dimensional stability and at the same time to create a leather-like appearance.
Both types of artificial leather, artificial leather and non-woven artificial leather, have the disadvantage that they are much less firm than natural leather and are not breathable. Despite many and exhausting attempts. it; So far it has not been possible to produce an artificial leather without these disadvantages.
According to the present invention, an artificial leather is now obtained which, in addition to its external similarity to natural leather, also has its advantageous properties and in some cases exceeds them in terms of strength, suppleness and possibly breathability. It is characterized by a textile that has a fine and dense part interspersed with an organic material to form an elastic layer and another part made of particularly tear-resistant and relatively coarser material that is free of the organic layer-forming material is on points.
Natural or synthetic resins, natural or synthetic rubber, cellulose derivatives, and also synthetic polymerisation or condensation products such as polyvinyl derivatives, or polymerisation condensation resins such as polyurethanes, can be used to form the elastic layer. .
The type of textile used is of major importance for the new artificial leather, as this not only has to be the inner framework for the elastic and possibly air-permeable layer made of resin, etc., but also the donor of the required special strength properties of the whole. The textile can be woven, knitted or knitted, but must always be composed of parts that are able to absorb the resin etc. as well as tear-resistant parts. Depending on the intended use of the artificial leather and depending on the nature; and the way in which the textile materials are processed, both single-layer and multi-layer textile frameworks are possible.
When using so-called plated yarns you can get by with a single fabric layer. In an advantageous embodiment, the chain and Sehuss can consist of a tear-resistant yarn enclosed by a textile material capable of absorbing the resin, e.g. B. is wrapped in fine yarn, whereupon the single-layer textile is made from the so vorberei ended material. This single-layer textile can also be produced in several layers (chains one on top of the other). In order to achieve a smooth surface for the synthetic leather, the surface of the textile can also be roughened, milled or felted.
According to another advantageous embodiment, in which the warp and weft also consist of a tear-resistant yarn, a rough, lining or pile thread can be mute-inserted into this textile structure and then stolen. or cut open, which in turn creates an absorbent fiber layer. The textile frame can also consist of several, partly of tear-resistant and partly of fabric layers capable of absorbing the resin, each of which is woven from at least one Ge fabric layer, d. H. Chain made from the appropriate textile material.
A two-layer textile structure is thus formed from a tear-resistant layer as the upper chain and from an absorbent layer as the lower chain, a three-layer one from a tear-resistant layer as the upper chain, from an absorbent layer as the middle chain and to achieve the smoothest possible surface of art leather; made from a layer of particularly fine threads in a satin weave as a lower warp. These different layers are made in one piece by e.g. B. in the case of two-layer fabrics the upper warp with the lower warp, in the case of three-layer fabrics the upper warp with the central warp and this with the lower warp.
Particularly suitable absorbent material are open-spun, loose yarns, two-cylinder yarn, Vigoga yarn, mercerized synthetic fibers or slightly twisted cotton yarns. Your choice depends if necessary on the liquid in which the resin, etc. is to be used, since in this case the textile part in question should also be receptive to them. For the expediently full and uniform penetration of the resin etc. with the fabric, its mesh size is of course also important; it should be so small that the resin completely fills the hollow spaces between the mesh threads.
Solid artificial silk or linen yarn can be used as tear-resistant material. The tensile strength of the fabric part in question is retained if the cavities in the mesh are not filled with resin. The mesh size can therefore be selected to be appropriately large and, if this is required by the type of subsequent treatment of the textile in a bath made of the organic material, the fibers can also be compared to the organic material or to the organic material make keeping liquid repellent, e.g. B. by waxing, if your material is not already naturally repellent in this sense.
To Heisstellung the new artificial leather you bring z. B. a liquid - it or necessary if necessary, z. B. by heating, liquid made resin into the absorbent part of the tissue. The resin can also be used in the form of a solution, dispersion or emulsion, possibly with the addition of vitamins.
The introduction itself can advantageously be done by pulling the textile through a bath of the liquid resin or the resin-laden liquid, or by pulling the liquid resin or the resin-containing liquid on: the fabric on and inside A resin that was originally liquid is then converted into the solid but elastic state, preferably by heating.
B. by cooling or by further heating i'estigt.Hat the resin in forums of a resinous liquid. (Solution, dispersion or emulsion) is applied, the liquid is evaporated - if necessary, removing any resin constituents.
After such a treatment, in all cases, at least within the absorbent part of the textile, there remains a tight, elastic, elastic element that is two-dimensionally complete, evenly and dense in its entirety is interspersed with textile fibers.
In the event that a resin-containing liquid was assumed, the resin layer is still interspersed with fine pores and continuous channels. The latter are presumably caused by the escape of gas or steam bubbles along the textile fibers and give the artificial leather a breathability. Has. one takes a sol ches as a resin that develops gases during storage through a reaction, possibly under the influence of the surrounding atmosphere, temperature and / or pressure, such as e.g. B. certain Pol \ urethane, so can also be achieved there by the breathability. will.
The planar structures obtained in this way are then processed in a known manner into the finished synthetic leather, e.g. B. by the fact that the resin layer is vulcanized or plastified and given a grain in an embossing calender. Finally, the artificial leather can also be coated with a very thin varnish, if necessary in the same way as with genuine leather, so that the respiratory channels are not closed. The air permeability of the artificial leather can be reduced by manufacturing measures (e.g.
B. different up th of the receptive textile part, versehie.- dene concentrations of resin-laden liq fluid., Selection of resin or the like) or by processing the finished Fabri kates, such. B. pressing, can be varied. Finally, by means of a correspondingly strong pressure, the channels that guarantee the leakproofness can also be completely closed, which means that there is no. more, breathing, but a particularly strong synthetic leather is created.
The single and multi-sided artificial leather produced in this way is largely similar in structure to natural leather. Because here as there the actual leather shielite consists of a putty substance or a resin, in which there are many fibers and capillaries.
The strength properties that the new artificial leather has in one layer. Structure dureli the tear-resistant inner thread, the soul, at. more layered structures primarily obtained by the tear-resistant layer are far better than those of other artificial leathers and most natural leathers. This can be seen from the following figures:
EMI0004.0001
The new material can, depending on the yarns to be processed, in a single-layer sheet in a thickness from about 0.2 mm, in a multilayer in a thickness of about 0.5 to over 5 mm in one piece, in which the individual layers in Knitting or weaving processes are firmly connected to one another, are produced.
With the leather replacement materials known to date, on the other hand, the thicknesses over 0.5 mm must be built up from several individual layers by lamination, which brings with it the risk that the individual layers will become detached due to the influence of moisture or mechanical stress Detach them from each other at the adhesive points. This major disadvantage does not apply to the new planar structure.
a The manufacture of the new leather replacement material is significantly easier than that of all previously known types of artificial leather. The latter he demand for the production of the film coating very many, up to 10 or even 20, interrupted operations. The new artificial leather is, following the production of the spe cial textile framework, practically produced in one operation, in which the resin is brought in, etc., cooling or further heating or evaporation and, if necessary, painting and pressing take place one after the other .
Example 1: A three-layer fabric is produced, with a paraffined artificial silk (650 denier) as the upper warp for the production of the tear-resistant layer.
Strength = 3 kg, elongation approx. 12 1 / o, 10 warp threads and 8 weft threads per cm), for the production of the layer capable of absorbing the resin as a middle warp 50/2 rayon (37 warp threads and 14 weft threads / cm) and for the atlas cover as a sub-chain artificial silk 180 den. (72 warp threads) are used; The 14 weft threads from Mittelhette are used as weft threads.
The three-layer fabric produced in this way has a weight per square meter of about 700 g. This fabric is drawn through a bath consisting of a 50% aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile and styrene. After passing through the bath, the textile web is passed through a drying cabinet and the liquid evaporates at a slowly increasing temperature of about 60-80.
With this synthetic leather produced in this way, the atlas and middle chain are embedded in the organic material layer, while the tear-resistant upper chain remains free from this layer. After the liquid medium has evaporated, the surface structure is provided with a grain in the embossing calender. The artificial leather produced in this way weighs around 1400 g per square meter.
Example A single-ply knitted fabric is produced, a linen yarn being used as the material for the tear-resistant yarn (core), which is spun with a cotton yarn that is absorbent for the resin. This knitted fabric is treated as in Example 1.
