Apparatus for taking samples inside a container operating under vacuum.
In devices for the treatment of products under vacuum, for example cookers, evaporators, desulphitors, it is necessary, in order to control the operation of the device and the concentration of the product subjected to the treatment, to be sampled during the operation, samples of this product.
These samples must be able to be taken without stopping the operation of the apparatus and without modifying the degree of vacuum which prevails inside it.
The apparatus for taking samples, generally employed up to the present day, included a small auxiliary receptacle which a set of rohinets made it possible to put in communication either with the interior of the apparatus or with the atmosphere; in the first case the product entered the auxiliary container and in the second case it could be taken from the outside. This sample-taking apparatus required a long maneuver, necessitated the use of pipes and taps which complicated its cleaning; moreover, it was unusable when the treated products were of a very pasty consistency.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. The apparatus which is the subject thereof is characterized in that it comprises a hollow body fixed to a wall of the container, the body inside which is housed an intermediate part movable in the axis of the body, recessed and having a lateral opening at its front end, this end being provided with a seal while its rear end comprises a shoulder, a spring bearing on said body and on said shoulder to ensure that the device is in the rest position, by making the aforesaid joliet press against the anterior end of the body, and in that it comprises a second seal placed inside this body and surrounding the outer periphery of the intermediate part,
ensuring the being ehéité between these two members, and in that the intermediate part houses an assembly formed by a spoon for taking samples, a rod, a handle provided with a gasket of being ehéité on its front face and which can lean against said shoulder of the intermediate piece, the tuut being arranged so that a sample can be taken by pushing said assembly by its handle and then withdrawing it from the intermediate piece.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is described, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing in which: a fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the apparatus, mounted on a vacuum evaporator, said apparatus being shown in its rest position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the apparatus in position for taking a sample.
Fig. 3 shows the same device, returned to the rest position, but from which the sample-taking spoon has been extracted.
Fig. 3a represents the assembly to which the sample-taking spoon is integral.
The apparatus shown consists of a braided body 1, fixed to a wall of a vacuum evaporator. Inside the body 1 is housed an intermediate piece 2 movable in the axis of this body, hollowed out and having a lateral opening at its front end, this end being provided with a seal 3 which is held pressed against the end. front of the body 1 by a spring 4 which bears, on the one hand, on said body 1 and, on the other hand, on a shoulder 1a that comprises the rear end of the intermediate part 2.
A second seal 9 is placed inside said body and surrounds the outer periphery of said intermediate piece, ensuring the integrity between these two members.
Inside the intermediate part 2 is housed an assembly (fig. 3a) formed by a sampling spoon 5, a rod 6 and an operating handle 8 provided with a seal 7 on its face. earlier.
The device being in its rest position, the spring 4 maintains the seal 3 of the intermediate part 2 applied against the body 1, which ensures the seal between the inside of the evaporator and the outside.
When taking a sample, by pushing on the handle 8 in the direction of the arrow f, the joint 7 is applied against the shoulder of the intermediate piece 2 and the spring 4 is compressed, the piece 2 is moved towards the inside of the evaporator with the assembly shown in fig. 3a and the spoon 5 is uncovered and can be filled through the lateral opening of the intermediate piece (position shown in FIG. 2). From the moment this maneuver has been carried out, the seal between the inside and the outside of the evaporator is ensured, on the one hand, by the pressure exerted by the seal 7 on the shoulder 4a of the intermediate piece and, on the other hand, by the seal 9.
The product contained in the evaporator enters the spoon 5 and the handle 8 can be brought back by letting the spring 4 act until the seal 3 is again pressed against the front end. of the body 1. Then exerting inie traction on the handle 8, it is possible to release the assembly shown in FIG. 3a, which makes it possible to collect the sample taken at will.
