Porte-mine.
Mechanical pencil. There are various types of mechanical pencil on the market. The simplest and most appreciated by users are those comprising a tapered body at one of its ends and having a guide tube, subjected to the action of a return spring, and carrying a clamp screwed into the end of the guide tube and cooperating with a seat formed in the tapered end of the casing.
Finally, an actuator emerging from the casing allows the user to act on the guide tube against the action of its spring. reminder to loosen the clamps and release the lead.
These mechanical pencils, although very practical, are relatively expensive to manufacture. One of the most expensive parts of these mechanical pencils is certainly the clamp which comprises three or four jaws, each carried by a resilient arm solid with a tube screwed into the end of the guide tube.
The present invention relates to a mechanical pencil comprising a tapered body at one of its ends, a device for clamping and holding the lead in the service position having, a seat arranged in the tapered end of the body and jaws cooperating with said seat under the action of a return spring, a device for releasing said jaws comprising a member of my work emerging from the body at its non-tapered end, and mechanically connected to said jaws by means of a guide -mine.
According to the invention, said lead guide is constituted by at least two similar elements arranged symmetrically around the lead and each having at least one jaw integral with said element.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the mechanical pencil which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof, FIG. 2 a cross-sectional view along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view, on a larger scale, following. line III-III of FIG. 1.
This mechanical pencil comprises a body 1 tapered at one of its ends. This body has an axial hole 2 and comprises a seat 3 fitted in its tapered end. This axial hole 2 has a chamber 4 in which a smooth neck an operating member 5 emerging from the non-tapered end of the body 1. This operating member is secured to a lead guide carrying a clamp for clamping the mine. 7 and is. subjected to the action of a return spring 6. This lead guide 9 and the jaws 10 consist of two similar elements 8 arranged symmetrically on either side of the axis of the lead guide. As shown in the drawing, each jaw is secured to one of the elements 8.
Each element 8 is obtained by stamping and comprises a part in the form of a hollow half-cylinder and a part in the form of a jaw. However, during stamping, internal tensions are created in the metal, so that each finished element 8 is slightly arched in its longitudinal direction. This very slight longitudinal curvature is very useful, because it automatically confers on the jaws 10 the necessary elasticity tending to separate them from one another, since the opposite ends of the elements 8 are kept rigidly in contact. with each other by the actuator 5.
By stamping, it is easy "to give the jaws the desired internal and external shape. Externally, these jaws have a surface 11 intended to cooperate under the action of the spring 6 with the seat 3 to cause their clamping on the lead 7 The outer surface 11 of each jaw has the shape of a half-cone, the radius of each cross section of which is smaller than the smallest radius of the cone formed by the seat 3, so that, theoretically, only one generator of the circular cone of the seat cooperates with a single generatrix of the circular half-cones of each jaw, which generatrix is that situated in the plane of Fig. 1.
Thus, it is possible for a generatrix of the surfaces 11 to cooperate with the seat 3 to cause the clamping of the jaws on the lead 7. FIG. 3 shows, on a larger scale, this difference in the radii of curvature of the cone of the seat and that of the jaws in the same cross section.
The elements 8 have, behind the surfaces 11, a part 12 of transverse cross section of smaller diameter than that of a cross section of the shank of an element, connected to the lead guide by a cone 13.
The operation of the mechanical pencil described is very simple and similar to that of known mechanical pencil. Indeed, when no thrust is exerted on the operating member 5, the spring 6 maintains part of the surface 11 of the jaws in contact with the seat 3 and automatically causes the clamping of the jaws on the mine 7 engaged. between them. If the user exerts an axial thrust on the operating member 5 against the action of the spring 6, it causes an axial displacement of the elements 8 and the release of the jaws due to the seat 3. Thanks to the inherent elasticity of these elements 8 , these jaws move away from the mine 7 and. therefore free the latter.
At the end of the stroke of the operating member, the shoulder 13 comes into contact with the rear end face 14 of the seat 3 and causes a slight pinching of the jaws. This pinching is sufficient. to brake the mine 7 and prevent it from sliding entirely by gravity out of the jaws, but insufficient to block the mine, so that the user has the possibility of adjusting the axial position of the mine.
When the user releases the operating member 5, the return spring 6 brings the elements 8 back and the jaws cooperating with the seat 3 clamp the lead 7 and fix it in the service position.
From the above, it can easily be seen that the cost price of the mechanical pencil described is very low and much lower than that of existing mechanical pencil. Indeed, the stamping operation necessary for the manufacture of the elements 8 is a very inexpensive operation and, moreover, given the very small number of constituent parts, the assembly of the mechanical pencil is extremely fast and not very expensive. expensive.
In an alternative embodiment of the mechanical pencil, there could be three elements 8 arranged symmetrically around the mine. Each element 8 comprising a jaw 9, the lead would then be clamped by three jaws.
In another variant embodiment, elements 8 comprising. each two jaws. For this, it would suffice to split each element 8 longitudinally over part of its length. It is clear that the half-cylindrical part of the elements could present in cross section the shape of a circular half-ring or. polygonal.
