The present invention relates to a high-pressure steam generator having at least one centrally disposed duct, and supplying a combustible mixture to a combustion chamber, this supply duct being surrounded by coaxial annular section chambers, traversed by the combustion gases and in which are arranged coils in which the fluid to be vaporized circulates.
This generator is characterized according to the invention in that the combustion chamber is limited by a surface of revolution having as its axis the common axis of the chambers of annular section, the largest diameter of this combustion chamber being greater than the diameter. exterior of the chamber of internal annular section, in which is disposed at least one vaporization coil extending into the peripheral part of the combustion chamber and terminating in a vapor collector located opposite the outlet orifice of the core duct born and arranged on either side of a plane passing through the central part of the bottom wall of the combustion chamber,
a device making it possible to adjust the position of the supply duct with respect to the bottom of this chamber and the whole being arranged so that at least some of the walls in contact with the flames and the hot gases are protected against an excess of temperature. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an installation comprising an embodiment of the generator according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of this embodiment of the generator.
Fig. 2 is a partial section on 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a schematic view showing the entire installation comprising this embodiment of the generator.
Fig. 4 is a schematic longitudinal section of a running control thermostat of this installation, and FIGS. 5 and 6, sections made respectively according to 5-5 and 6-6 of fig. 4. The steam generator shown in the drawing comprises (fig. 1) a casing having a cylindrical part 1, made of stainless steel, at one end of which is fixed a cap of revolution 3 of pressed sheet metal, the boundary wall of which on one side a combustion chamber 4.
In a central opening in the bottom of this cap 3 is fixed a spherical pressure collector 5 composed of two metal half-shells 6 and 7 screwed into a flange R welded to the edge of the circular central opening in the bottom of the cap 3. The bottom wall of the combustion chamber is thus connected to the spherical vapor manifold in a large circle, and this manifold is thus disposed on either side of a plane passing through the central part of the wall. bottom of this combustion chamber.
At opposite points of the half-shell 7, symmetrical with respect to a horizontal plane passing through the center of the manifold 5, two steam pipes 9 terminate and an outgoing pipe 10 is also connected to the half-shell 7.
The vapor collector 5 is separated from the combustion chamber by a cap 11, made of refractory material and pierced with holes 12 towards the base, to allow free circulation of the gases. The collar 8 is provided with tabs 13 for fixing the refractory cap.
Between the edges of the cap 3 and of the cylindrical part 1, which serve to fix these two parts to one another, is clamped a flange of a frustoconical wall 14 which limits the combustion chamber 4 on the interior side. The fixing of these parts is ensured by screws 15 and the assembly is consolidated by a belt 16 which at the same time ensures the sealing of the combustion chamber 4, which is thus limited by a revolving surface comprising the inner surface. of the wall 14 and that of the cap 3.
The cap 3 is surrounded on the outside by a second wall 17 and the frustoconical wall 14 by a second wall 18, so as to constitute two water circulation jackets 19 and 20, each connected to an inlet pipe 21. and to an outlet pipe 22.
The frustoconical wall 14 is welded by the edge of its small base to a cylindrical wall 23 having the same axis as the combustion chamber, and a cylindrical wall 24, surrounding the wall 23, and having the same axis as the latter and the part 1 is welded by one end to the wall 18. Finally, a cylindrical wall 25 surrounding the wall 23 is welded, on the one hand, to the wall 18 and, on the other hand, to the wall 23, so as to form a water circulation jacket 26 in communication with the plug 20. The free ends of the cylindrical walls 23 and 24, as well as those of the casing part 1 simply rest against circular angles 27, 28 and 29 integral with a base forming part of the casing and composed of two sheet metal plates 30 and 37.
between which is interposed an asbestos sheet 32. This base is held in place by means of a device comprising a cylindrical sheet metal plug 33 fixed to the periphery of the base, a sheet metal ferrule 34 fixed to a circular angle 35 integral with the belt 1.6 and the springs 36 attached, on the one hand, to the sleeve 33 and, on the other hand, to the ferrule 34. In this way, the sleeve 33 which engages in the ferrule 34 is elastically applied - Only in the circular angle 35 and nothing opposes the differences in expansion of the various cylindrical walls of the generator.
The cylindrical wall 24 is pierced with openings 37 on the side of the wall 14 and the wall 23 with orifices 38 at its opposite end.
The space between the cylindrical part 1 and the jacket 33 constitutes a chamber 39 for heating the combustion air. For this purpose, a fresh air inlet pipe 40 and a heated air outlet pipe 41 are connected to the jacket 33.
The center of the base 30, 31 of the generator carries a sleeve 42 threaded internally, into which is screwed a tubular sheath 43 traversed by a central duct 44 having the same axis as the combustion chamber and which opens into the latter through an orifice located in face of the refractory cap 11. This central duct serves for the admission of a combustible mixture, for example a mixture of air and oil, this mixture burning in the combustion chamber 4, the largest diameter of which is greater than that of the cylindrical wall 23 to which the wall of this chamber 4 is connected.
The sheath 43, the walls 23, 24 and 25 and the part 1 limit three chambers of coaxial annular section 45, 46 and 47 surrounding the central duct 44 and of the same axis as the combustion chamber 4. In these chambers are arranged the coils. 48a, 48b, 48c, respectively, in which circulate the steam and the water to be vaporized. The outer coil 48c is supplied with pressurized water by the pipe 49, this water progressing by approaching the chamber 4 and it is connected to the intermediate coil 48b by connections easily accessible from the outside. The coil 48b, in which the water progresses away from the chamber 4, is in turn connected by a connector 51 to an annular tube 52 arranged concentrically around the central duct 44.
The section of this tube 52 is markedly greater than that of the coils and its role will be explained later in the operation of the device. Finally, the two internal ser pentins 48a mounted in parallel, arranged in the inner chamber 45, are re-linked at one of their ends by couplings 53 to the tube 52. These coils extend into the peripheral part of the combustion chamber 4 and their other ends are each connected to one of the conduits 9 leading to the manifold 5.
The central duct 44 is supplied with air by the pipe 54 from the connector 41 by means of the flexible pipe 55 and with liquid fuel by an injector 56 which opens into a venturi 57 disposed in the pipe 44, and whose flow rate is adjustable by means of the handwheel 58. The liquid fuel is brought through the pipe 72.
The annular section space 60 between the sheath 43 and the central duct 44 is connected to a compressed air duct 61 and its section is constricted towards the free end by a grooved ring 62 force-fitted, arranged at, the 'outlet end of the sheath between the latter and the duct. This ring serves as a spacer and its grooves 63 form channels of well-defined section which determine, under a given pressure, the suitable reduced flow of secondary air, this air also serving for cooling the duct 44 and the sheath 43.
It should be noted that the distance separating the outlet orifice of the central duct 44 from the cap 11 is adjustable, thanks to the screw connection between the sheath 43 and the sleeve 64 integral with the bottom of the generator, which makes it possible to moving the whole of the sheath 43 and of the duct 44 axially. An arrangement not shown allows rotation of the sheath 43 relative to the duct 61.
The operation of the steam generator which has just been described is as follows: the liquid fuel arriving under pressure at 59 is projected into the axis of the central duct 44 in the form of fine droplets and is entrained by the air passing through it. the venturi. 57 and which arrives through tubing 54 after having warmed up in the external heating chamber 39. This air comes from a fan which brings it into chamber 39 through tubing 40. In addition, it is sent equal. air under pressure through the pipe 61 in the space 60, the maximum flow rate of this air being limited by the section of the channels formed by the grooves 63 of the ring 62. The mixture of liquid fuel and air is.
ignited by means of any device, for example an ignition plug, preferably eclipsable once the ignition has been carried out, and the ignited mixture goes towards the refractory cap 11 on which it spreads to fill the interior space of the cap 3. In this way, the gases are completely burnt by the time they reach the cylinders 48a, which avoids the deposition of soot and coke and the blow of the torch.
The water jackets 19, 20 and 26, as well as the air current in the space 60 effectively protect the various corresponding walls from excess temperature and, moreover, the heating of the water and the heat. The supply air allows calories to be recovered which would otherwise be lost.
The burnt gases then pass into chamber 45, pass through openings 38, circulate in the opposite direction in chamber 46, pass through openings 37, then pass into chamber 47 to be finally discharged to the chimney through an exhaust port. pement 65.
During this journey, the burnt gases successively lick the coils 48a, 48b, 48c, As for the water, it is admitted under pressure at 49, travels through the economizer coil 48e where its temperature rises more and more, then the coil 48b where it begins to vaporize; it then passes through the annular tube 52 and, from there, into the coils 48a where it completes vaporizing completely and where it overheats. The superheated steam collects in the manifold 5 from where it is taken by the tubing 10 for use.
As can be seen, the gases circulate in the opposite direction of the water following a methodical circulation. Preferably, the feed water introduced at 49 contains the heated water which has already passed through the water jackets 19, 20 and 26.
The diameter and length of the water coils 48e and 48b are calculated such that the temperature of the water reaches a temperature of the order of 300 when it arrives in the tube 52; it therefore arrives there in the form of wet vapor and, given that the section of the tube 52 is appreciably greater than that of the coils, this vapor only demands to be released from the water molecules with which it is mixed, in at the same time increasing in volume before entering the final vaporization and superheat coils 48a. This annular tube 52 therefore acts as a water separator.
On leaving the coils 48a, the superheated steam arrives through the pipes 9 in the manifold 5 which constitutes a second water separator to eliminate the traces of humidity which could still have been entrained up to there by the steam.
In fact, theoretically, dry steam no longer contains water, but, in practice, during its va porization in tubes, there is entrainment of water molecules or vesicles, which in aggregates of vapor do not arrive. more, during their circulation in the coils, to transform into vapor because they do not have the necessary space and it is thus that, in spite of an energetic stirring against the walls of the coils, some molecules are entrained among the dry steam.
The spherical collector 5 gives the water molecules the possibility of being transformed into vapor because of the space which they suddenly have available and also by their sudden projection against the lower wall of this collector. The dryness of the steam is thus ensured, which is a big advantage for the life of the machines, in particular for the fins of the turbines. In addition, the collector 5 allows the uni fication of the temperature of the steam coming from the two coils 48a and it gives flexibility to the installation comprising the generator described.
All parts of the generator described are made of stainless steel, of one composition. suitable for the high temperatures and pressures prevailing in this generator.
It will be noted that the generator described is easily removable and that in particular all the connections of the various coils are external. This greatly facilitates the checking, cleaning and maintenance of this generator.
In fig. 3, there is schematically shown a vaporization installation provided with the generator which has just been described and comprising the accessory supply and adjustment devices.
Referring to this figure, 33 denotes the generator.
The air supply is provided by a fan or positive-displacement compressor 66, sucking at 67 and delivering in line 68 which, after passing through the preheating chamber of the generator, exits at 41 and passes through a valve 69, to end in fitting 54 of the brfileur. On this pipe 68 is mounted, as a bypass, a pipe 70 which ends at the upper part of a feed supply tank 71 containing diesel fuel and above which the fan 66 therefore maintains a certain pressure.
This tank 71 is connected to the injector 56 of the generator by a pipe 72 in which are interposed a valve 73, a coil 74, a valve 75, a shut-off Tpblnet 76 and a bleeder 77. The pipe 70 is, at its upper part, connected by a bypass to a small reservoir 78 containing alcohol and connected, on the other hand, to the injector 56 by a pipe 59 (not shown in FIG. 1) on which there is a shut-off valve 79. The duct 61 supplying the space 60 is connected to the air pipe 68 and is fitted with the valve 80. The burnt gases exit at 65 and reach the chimney via the ducts 81, 82, 83.
The duct 82 is arranged so as to lick the bottom of the diesel tank 71, to which the burnt gases give up part of the calories carried away from the generator, a first part having already been transferred to the coil 74 containing the gas oil circulating to the carburetor . At the low point of the pipe 81 is connected a pipe 84 bringing to a reservoir 85 the water of the condensation coming from the combustion gases.
The pressurized water supply is provided by a pump 86 which sucks the water from the bottom of the container 87. The water circulation in the water jackets 19, 20, 26 of the generator takes place as follows: the inlet pipe 21 in the jackets is connected to the supply pipe 49 upstream of the regulator 88 and is provided with a valve 89 regulating the water flow. The pipe 22 pours this heated water directly into the tank 87. Preferably, the pump 86 is driven by the steam engines supplied by the installation. The receptacle 87 is in the open air and the pump delivers via a pipe 90 on which an accumulator 91 is placed in charge.
This accumulator 91 is connected to the generator by the pipe 49 on which are successively disposed a manometer 92, a bypass regulator 88 with its valve 93, a thermometer 94 and a tap 95. The bypass regulator 88 comprises a piston 96 pushed by an adjustable res sort 97.
The pump is calculated to send to the generator a quantity of water greater than that which it admits and thus the bypass regulator 88 is still in operation and returns through the discharge pipe 98 (for example regulator by its diameter of much higher than that of the pipe 49) the excess water in the receptacle 87. As for the steam which leaves the generator by the pipe 10 on which are placed: a valve 99, a manometer 100, a thermometer or pyrometer 101 and a shut-off valve 102, it passes through the body of an adjustment device 103 which will be described in detail later, and arrives through the pipe 104 at the machine or machines 105 after having passed through the valve 106.
The steam expanded in this or these machines goes through the pipe 107, on which is arranged a check valve 108 to a coil 109 housed in a condenser 110 supplied with 1.11 with fresh water, the overflow flowing through the tubing 112. The machine or machines 105 can be short-circuited more or less by a discharge pipe 113 joining the pipe 104 to the pipe 107 downstream of the check valve 108. This discharge pipe 113 is controlled by the valve with counterweight 106 for mant safety valve.
The entire installation is completed by an automatic adjustment device controlled by the thermostat 103 and which comprises a lever mechanism (described in detail below) acting on the following various taps or valves 93 arranged at the outlet the pressure regulator bypass, 75 for the fuel inlet, 69 controlling the main air inlet, 80 controlling the secondary air inlet, 99 placed on the steam outlet of the generator, and 106 of shunting of operating machines.
Referring now to fig. 4, which schematically shows the detail of the thermostat 103, 201 is a metallic tubular body provided with a sapper inlet pipe 202 and an outlet pipe 203. A cover 204 and a bottom 205 screwed onto the tubular body with interposition of metalloplastic sealing members 206 and 207 close it in a sealed manner at both ends. The bottom 205 is provided with a boss 208 on which is mounted a tube 209 with a high coefficient of expansion. A screw 210 immobilizes the tube on the bottom.
Inside the tube 209 is placed another tube 212 made of metal with a very low coefficient of expansion or better still of invar metal, the two tubes being made integral with each other only by their upper parts by means of between fathoms 214 (see also fig. 5). Another tube 215 with a high coefficient of expansion arranged inside the tube 212 is fixed to the lower end of the latter by spacers 216 (see also FIG. 6). Finally, still following the same assembly principle, there are still two tubes 217 and 218. The latter is connected to a rod 219 which passes through a gland 220 mounted in the cover 204.
The rod 219 is articulated at 222 on a lever 223 articulated in turn on a pin 224 integral with a support 225 held on the cover 204 by screws 226.
The base of the tube 209 is pierced with openings 227 which allow the steam which enters through the upper part of the tubes and which passes between the spacers, to escape through the outlet tube 203. The operation of this thermostat is obvious: the steam, passing through the apparatus, brings all the tubes to a certain temperature which determines a corresponding expansion of the tubes and, consequently, a certain angular position of the lever 223. This angular position is therefore a function of of the temperature of the steam circulating in the thermostat and the device has the advantage of operating practically without delay, which is very important for its use as a regulator.
The lever mechanism mentioned above and intended to control the various taps under the action of the thermostat comprises a T-lever 114 (fig. 3) and an angled lever 115. The T-lever 114 is articulated around an axis. fixed 116, one of its branches is connected at 117 to the tap 93 by means of a link 118 which can act in both directions, a second branch is connected at 119 by a link 120 which can also act in both directions , at the tap 75, this connection is carrying a stop 121 capable of acting on the tap 106 in antagonism with the counterweight 122. It should also be noted that the taps 69, 80 and 75 are interconnected by rods 123 and 124 .
Finally, the third branch of the T-shaped lever 114 cooperates with the lever 223 of the thermostat 103 by virtue of a groove 125 made in this branch.
The angled lever 115 is articulated on iin fixed axis 126 disposed in the vicinity of the top of the square. The lower branch is connected to the valve 99 by a link 127 which enables the valve 99 to be acted on in the closing direction, a return spring (not shown) urging it towards opening. The upper branch 128 of the angled lever carries in the vicinity of its end a pin 129 on which is articulated a cleat 130 provided with a heel 131, so that, when a vertical pressure is exerted from top to bottom on the cleat 130, the latter drives with it the angled lever 128, while the cleat is simply erased under the action of a thrust directed from the bottom up.
The position of this lever at right angles to the lever 223 of the thermostat is such that the free end of the lever 223 can cooperate with the latch 130 carried by the lever at right angles.
The operation of the installation which has just been described is as follows: The generator, that is to say the coils and the collector 5, is filled half with water. the boiler, 76 of the fuel oil inlet to the burner and 102 of the generator steam outlet are closed, while the purge valve 131 on the steam outlet pipe 10 of the generator is open: pump 86 running, the water then circulates in a closed circuit in the water spaces of the generator, in the pipes 90 and 98, and returns to the reservoir 87. The tap 96 is then opened very slightly so that the water begins to pass through the drain valve 131, then the valve 95 is closed, then the valve 1.31 when the water has stopped flowing.
The purpose of this maneuver is to empty the generator of half of its water, which allows vaporization and an almost immediate start-up; while otherwise, the coils being flooded, the start would be slow and there would be water entrainment.
Then, the fan 66 is operated, the alcohol inlet tap 79 is opened, the alcohol-air mixture is ignited by means of an electric spark plug device for example, then the valve is gradually opened. fuel oil inlet valve 76, while the alcohol inlet valve 79 is slowly closed, combustion then continues only with a mixture of oil and air. When the temperature of the thermometer 101 reaches the operating temperature, the valves 102 for the steam outlet and 95 for the water inlet in the boiler are opened.
It will be understood that the temperature overheating of the steam, at its exit from the generator, is a function: on the one hand, of the quantity of water injected by the pump 86 into the cylinders following the tube 40 and, d on the other hand, the number of calories produced by the combustion of the mixture of air and oil in the combustion chamber. It is a question of adjusting the water inlet in relation to that of the combustible mixture so as to maintain constant a determined temperature of the steam produced whatever the instantaneous consumption of the steam, being is limited by a determined maximum.
If, for some reason, the production of steam is greater than the consumption, the temperature tends to rise; on the other hand, if the production of steam becomes lower than the demand, the temperature drops to the detriment of the quality or dryness of this steam.
We immediately see that any variation in the temperature of the steam circulating in the thermostat 103 causes an oscillation of the lever 223 and, consequently, an action in one direction or the other on the adjustment devices and on the valves: 93, 75, 69, 80, 99 and 106.
The initial positions of the taps, with respect to the adjustment devices, are established so as to obtain the desired automatic adjustment, taking into account the fact that the water inlet pressure is constant and the fact that the water inlet pressure is constant. secondary air, in excess, passing through the tube 61 tends to lower the combustion temperature.
Under these conditions, if, for example, the steam reaches the fixed maximum temperature (500 for example), the lever 223 oscillates progressively upwards; consequently, the tap net 93 is partially closed and the pump sends the maximum amount of water to the generator, while the tap 80 increases the flow of secondary air, while the taps 69 and 75 reduce the inlet of water. oil and combustion air, the mixing ratio of which remains constant.
On the other hand, if the temperature drops, the lever 223 gradually oscillates downwards and the opposite effects occur.
In the event of an overproduction of steam, as a result, for example, of stopping the operating machine 105, or for any other cause, which would cause overheating exceeding the fixed limits, the tap 106, controlled by the stop 121 , opens and part of the steam escapes through the tube 113 to the condenser 110. In this case, the check valve 108, due to the overpressure produced by this discharge of live steam, closes momentarily. , which avoids a back pressure in the machine 105.
Likewise if, for any reason whatsoever, the temperature of the steam produced drops in a proportion exceeding the fixed minimum limit, the end of the lever 223 abuts against the stopper 130 and causes the angle lever 128 to oscillate around its axis 126 , which causes the progressive closing of the valve 99 and a decrease in the flow rate of fear whose temperature consequently tends to stabilize and even to rise.
When the installation is stopped, the lever 223 descends and disengages from the latch 130 after having made the lever oscillate at right angles, while the valve 99 returns to its normal opening position under the action of its return spring. . The end of the lever 223 is therefore stationary under the stopper 130; the latter is provided with a hinge precisely to allow lever 223 to be raised when the installation is restarted; when the lever 223 has risen sufficiently by driving the stopper 130 on its own, the latter falls back under the action of its own weight to resume its normal position.
On the other hand, the supply pipe coming from the pump 86 has as far as the bypass regulator 88 a larger diameter than that which it has downstream of this device. The water flow rate of the pump is greater than that which the boiler can receive. In the event of overpressure, the water from the boiler tends to flow back towards the inlet, therefore towards the device 88 and it could be discharged through the latter if the tap 93 which depends on the regulation system was not there. to prevent it.
At the time of normal resumption of operation, there could be a delay in the flow of the pump, while the water reserve would be insufficient; also the robi net 93 maintains the water pressure in the boiler and the pump continues to supply it.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the details of execution described above, which have been given only by way of example. Thus, in the case of a generator of large dimensions, it is preferable to use a burner comprising a group of several supply ducts, for example three, arranged centrally. The generator described could also be used with regulating devices using compressed air, mercury or oil, for example.
