Device for burning liquid fuels pulverized using water vapor. The invention relates in general to devices for burning pulverized liquid fuels, using steam: of water and is particularly but not exclusively applicable to:
device which forms the subject of patent n 13,660,0 of February 21, 1928 of the same firm. According to the invention, the steam jet is produced by the flame of the burner itself, at a pressure that varies between two very close limits, that is to say practically constant and in a quantity adapted to the different powers of the flame of the appliance,
that is to say, the different hourly quantities of fuel that the appliance can and must burn according to the wishes of the person using it. These quantities of steam are therefore variable in a certain relation with the quantity of fuel to be burned, so as to ensure the best performance, while. avoiding the waste of steam: and the loss: of heat which follows.
The -dispositif object of the invention, ensures the necessary interdependence between the intensity of the steam jet, which causes and controls the supply of fuel by sucking it from the container which contains it, and the corresponding supply: d water to the organ, vaporizer in the quantity necessary to follow the variations. the power of the steam jet.
It also ensures the simultaneous action of the flame in this direction. that if there is a greater demand for steam to cause and ensure a greater supply of liquid fuel, the device allows the transmission of a greater quantity of heat -from the flame to the vaporizer body and conversely reduces this transmission otherwise.
The accompanying drawing represents, to. by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 schematically represents the entire device; The figs 2 and 3 are vertical sections in two planes normal to each other of certain organs .du device.
In fig 1, 1 indicates the vaporiser member represented .simplement by a bent tube which, in practice, may have different shapes depending on. -constructive requirements of -different applications. The vaporizer 1 is placed directly in the hearth of the thermal appliance which must use the flame. The dotted line precisely indicates the inner contour of the fireplace where the vaporizer 1 is located, immersed in the flame and under the radiant action of the walls.
2 indicates the space reserved in the hearth for a small heating chamber running on gas, alcohol, or the naphtha itself and serving for the first heating of the vaporizer in order to produce the first vapor necessary for heating. working. The.
vaporizer 1 is connected at 3 with the feed water supply line from container 4, where the feed water is under the desired pressure which, generally, does not exceed the three meters of water column. In the container 4, the space 5, which is not occupied by water, contains air at the same pressure to create an air wear mate. 6 shows a pipe which opens into the container 4 to maintain the desired pressure therein, supplied either by a filling container under load, or by a pressure pipe, with which the pipe 6 is.
in communication either directly or, if necessary, by means of a reduction valve. 7 indicates an air exhaust valve which serves to establish in the container 4 the desired level of water, this level having to be a little above the ori fice 8 leading to the vaporizer. The vaporizer 1 is connected at 9 with the tube which, through the tap 10, brings to the reservoir 11 the value developed at 1.
From tank 11 through pipe 12 and to. Through a regulating member 13, the steam is conducted to the nozzle 1.4, from where it escapes by causing the fuel to be sucked through the pipe 15, terminated at. sin points -and -whose lower part is immersed in the fuel container. In the vapor reservoir 11 is disposed a floating body 16 which carries a shutter capable of closing the inlet orifice of the tube 12, to prevent the flow to the outside of the water, which could possibly enter the tank. tank 11 if, at rest, the valve 10 and the adjustment member 13 had remained open.
The float is guided in its movement by appropriate slides 17.
18 indicates an exhaust valve for air -and 19 a valve for draining the water from the tank 11. The tanks 4 and 11 are placed outside the hearth and the muffle but. very close to the vaporizer 1.
The operation of the device is as follows: When starting up, turn on the air valve 18 and the drain valve 19 of the reservoir 11, while keeping the valve 10 closed, to ensure that it there is no water in the tank 11 and to let out that which could possibly be there; the float 16 will then be at the lower end of its stroke, so that the inlet of the tube 12 will be open. The vaporizer 1 will be full of water at the pressure of the container 4.
By lighting the fire in small chamber 2 for pre-heating, vaporizer 1, whose interior volume is very small compared to its exterior surface, will immediately begin to produce steam, which, since tap 10 is when closed, will expel the non-vaporized water towards the container 4, which restores the equilibrium of the pressure with said container 4.
By slightly opening the valve 10, the air valve 18 and the drain valve 19 being always open, a slight pressure drop will be caused in the vaporizer h in relation to the container 4 and a call for water will take place in the vaporizer, which, during this time, will have been heated almost red, in such a way that the small quantity of water which arrives in the hollow body will vaporize. instantly by creating a back pressure which, on the one hand,
will suspend the power supply -and the other will cause in tank 11 the flow of steam allowed by the slight opening of the tap 10. The steam entering in 11 will condense by heating the tank itself and the water condensate came out through the drain valve 19.
The back pressure will be quickly followed by a depression and a new supply and the pendular phenomenon of the supply-vaporization, instantaneous-backpressure depression being repeated very quickly, the apparatus will be in a very short time at its operating speed. operation, which will be recognized by the high temperature reached by the walls of the reservoir 11, -and also at the outlet of the scare by the valve 18 -and the tap 19.
We will then close said valve -and the tap and we will almost completely open the regulating member 13-and fully the tap 10. A strong and continuous jet of steam will then come out, from the nozzle 14 and the naphtha, immediately as pirated through. ) the tube 15 and sprayed, forming, with the water vapor and the entrained combustion air, a cone of combustible mixture which will ignite by coming into contact with the flame @ of the small chamber 2.
By regulating by the organ the flow of steam, the desired volume of flame will be obtained - and combustion will then continue automatically to the extent established without any need for monitoring.
From what has just been described the interdependence between the steam jet, the fuel supply and the vaporization capacity is obvious. Assuming in fact that a reduced flame regime is desired to switch to a full flame regime, the valve 10 being always fully open, we will have the adjustment member 13, so as to allow a greater; flow of steam to the nozzle 14 which will suck and spray, entraining it with a greater quantity of fuel and, by ejection effect, a greater quantity of primary air.
In this way, a greater volume of flame will be obtained instantaneously in the hearth, which will envelop a larger surface of the porizer which is immersed therein; there will be a rapid increase in the average ambient temperature and radiating surfaces, with the increase in specific vaporization which ensues.
At the same time, the greater flow of steam through the nozzle will have caused a decrease in pressure in the tank 11 and, consequently, a greater demand for water to the vaporizer 1, which being, as we have. In view of the possibility of producing a greater quantity of steam, it will quickly reestablish the pressure regime at 11 while supplying the greater flow of steam. The pendular phenomenon which has been mentioned in relation to the starting of the apparatus, will occur in this case with regularity, but with an at the same rate or by accelerating the frequency.
The fact that the capacity of the reservoir 11 is much greater than that of the vaporizer will prevent too much feeling the pressure variations which occur in the latter and the jet at the nozzle will remain practically regular and stable.
If from a larger flame we change to a smaller one, the phenomenon described above will occur in the opposite direction. The control of the adjustment member can be done by hand as well as automatically by means of members controlled by thermostats or the like.
If for any reason the flame were to go out, with the tap 10 and the regulator 13 remaining open, the apparatus, cooling down, would fill with water coming from the pressure vessel 4 and the water in stagnation. into the tank 11 and by filling it would flow outside through the tube 12, the regulating member 13 and the nozzle 14. This drawback is remedied by means of the shutter-holder float 16 which, when the water has reached a certain level in the reservoir 11, closes the inlet of the tube 12, thus interrupting all communication with the outside.
The steam tank 11 with the float member and shutter holder 16, the supply and discharge pipes, the regulating members and the related accessories, is shown in fig. 2 and 3 in cross section and longitudinal section, respectively, in an already tested constructive form, the operation of which has been proven. It is obvious that other similar constructive arrangements or comprising variants in the construction of the various members can be carried out according to current technique and without departing from the scope of the invention.
In particular, the vaporizer 1, instead of being placed directly in the hearth of the thermal appliance which is to use the flame, could be placed in a muffle provided for this purpose in front of the door of the hearth. In this muffle will be reserved the small heating chamber, mentioned above, used for "preliminary heating of the vaporizer.
