Process for the preparation of a new monoazo dye. The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a new monoazo dye, which consists in reacting diazotized p-nitroaniline, N-n-amyl-N-s-oxyethylaniline and a su.lfurierungsmittel with one another, whereby the procedure can be
that diazotized p-nitroaniline is coupled with N-n-amyl-N-ss-oxyethyl aniline and the oxyethyl group is then converted into the corresponding sulfuric acid ester group,
or that N-n-amyl-ss-oxyäthy.lanilin is treated with a sulfurizing agent to convert the oxyethyl group into the corresponding sulfuric acid ester group and the reaction product is coupled with diazotized p-nitroaniline.
The conversion of the oxyethyl group into the corresponding sulfuric acid ester group can be achieved, for example, by treating the compound with sulfuric acid or with chlorosulfonic acid in an inert solvent, e.g. B. Tetrachloroethane or Ethylene dichloride.
The new dye is particularly suitable for dyeing 7, e, llulos, acetate artificial silk from diluted or sound-liquid dye baths, such as those used when dyeing with the reel.
The new dye obtained in this way is a dark red powder, which dissolves in water to form a red solution and in conc. Sulfuric acid dissolves to form a brownish-red solution. The dye dyes cellulose acetate rayon in red tones with good fastness properties.
Example 1: 20.7 parts of Nn-amyl-N-ss-oxyethylaniline (obtained by reacting N-ss-oxyethylaniline with n-amyl bromide in an aqueous medium in the presence of an acid-binding agent 12 parts of chlorosulphonic acid in a tetrachloro-ethane solution are treated at 50 ° C. by means of e.g. lime.
The solvent is removed by evaporation and the residue is dissolved in a solution of 8.4 parts of sodium carbonate in 400 parts of water. The solution obtained in this way of 30.9 parts of the sodium salt of the Schnefel acid ester is cooled to 5 to 10 ° C. and the diazonium chloride solution obtained from 13.8 parts of p-nitroaniline is added.
After the mixture has been stirred for 2 hours, a sufficient amount of 50% strength aqueous I # ratrium acetate is added to neutralize the mineral acidity of the coupling medium. The stirring continues,
until the coupling is finished. The suspension of the monoazo dye is then made just alkaline to brilliant yellow by adding aqueous 5N sodium hydroxide. The dye is filtered off, washed with 21I2% aqueous sodium chloride and dried at 60.degree.
Example 2: The dia.zonium chloride solution obtained from 13.8 parts of p-Nitra.nilin is cooled to 5 to 7 ° C. and, while stirring, a solution of 20.7 parts of Nn-amyl cooled in the same way -N-ss-oxyethylaniline in 250 parts of water containing 12.5 parts of 36% hydrochloric acid was added.
The. The mixture is stirred for 3 hours, whereupon a sufficient amount of 40% aqueous sodium hydroxide is added to make the medium just alkaline to brilliant yellow. The water-insoluble monoazo compound is filtered off, washed with water and dried at 40 to 50.degree.
The powdered monoazo compound is then gradually concentrated into 80 parts. Sulfuric acid added and the resulting solution stirred for a few "hours. It is then poured into a mixture of 400 parts of ice and 100 parts of water. The precipitated product is filtered off and washed with water. It is then suspended in 400 parts of water and the suspension with 2N sodium carbonate just ordered alkaline to brilliant yellow.
The sodium salt of the dye thus obtained is then filtered off and net getrock at 40 to 50.degree. The new dye is identical to the dye obtained by the method according to Example 1.
