Auxiliary motor device for cycles. The present invention relates to an auxiliary motor device for the mechanical drive of cycles and in particular of bicycles, tandems or others.
The motor of this device is established to be fixed, in a removable manner, under the frame of the cycle and its dimensions are such that it fits between the two surfaces swept by the cranks of the crank.
The following description, given with reference to the accompanying drawing, given by way of example, relates to several embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an overall elevation of a first embodiment of an auxiliary motor device mounted on a bi-cycle, the motor being partially switched off.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding cross section taken through the output axis of the reducer, but on a larger scale.
Fig. 3, which shows another embodiment, is a cross section which is made, on the right, by the axis of output of the reducer and, on the left, by the axis of the crankshaft on which a flywheel is wedged. magnetic which, to. in the known manner, contains an ignition device.
Fig. 4 is a partial elevation showing the mounting of the motor joint and the bracket on the frame.
Fig. 5 is a cross section of the support, this section passing through the axis of articulation. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of an alternative embodiment in the case of a motor mounted rigidly on the frame and showing the arrangement of a movement selector mechanism between the output pinion of the reduction gear and the chain pinion.
In the embodiment, more specifically represented by FIGS. 1 and 2, one substitutes for the normal pinion of the bicycle a pinion 1 mounted to freewheel on the axis of the crankset, so as to transmit the movement to the rear wheel in. one direction of rotation.
The chain to pinion 1 of the crankset has internal teeth 2 with which a pinion 3 wedged on the output shaft of the reduction gear engages.
The engine is in the form of a unit 4 which is formed by the actual engine 5 and by the reduction gear comprising a pinion 6 integral with the crankshaft of the engine, and a toothed wheel 7 driven by the pinion 6 and wedged. on the output shaft of the reducer, shaft on which the pinion 3 is fixed in engagement with the internal teeth 2 of the chain pinion.
The motor 4 is suspended by a pin 8 from a support 9 fixed to the. two tubes of the rear fork of the frame, by a cap or flange 10.
The motor 4, by manual or foot control, can pivot around the axis 8 and occupy two main positions limited by two stop notches.
By lifting the motor to the upper notch, pinion 3 is released from internal toothing 2: from wheel 1 of the crankset. In this position, the mechanical connection between the motor and this wheel 1 is completely eliminated, so that it is possible to pedal normally, as on an ordinary bicycle, without driving any mechanical part of the motor.
By lowering the motor to the lower notch, the pinion 3 is again meshed with the internal toothing 2, so as to obtain the mechanical drive of the bicycle.
This mechanical connection can be re-established even while driving. To this end, we stop pedaling, so as to stop the pinion 1, and we lowered the motor to engage the pinion 3 with the internal teeth 2. We pedal at. again only to start the engine and, after; starting it, we stop pedaling to obtain the mechanical drive of the bicycle.
Of course, you can pedal at the same time as the mechanical drive is taking place.
The whole engine which is fixed under the frame is included in the space limited laterally by the two surfaces swept by the cranks of the bottom bracket.
In addition, for the drive of the rear wheel, the chain equipping the bi-cycle as well as the gear change such as a derailleur -if this bicycle is provided with such a device is used.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 illustrate a variant embodiment in which the engine, of the 34 cm "two-stroke type, develops at a speed of 5000 revolutions, a power of 0.75 HP and gives a bicycle a speed of approximately. 30 km per hour, the consumption being of one liter per 100 kilometers using a fuel which contains 7 oil.
This engine comprises a magnet flywheel 11 wedged on the crankshaft shaft, the whole assembly being housed under the frame between the surfaces swept by the cranks 14, the crank @de, left being slightly carried outwards.
The complete supply for a bicycles is of a reduced weight, in the order of 5 to 6 kilograms: and includes: the engine with carburetor, flywheel and silencer.
20 The support for attaching to the frame.
30 The toothed wheel of the crankset which must be substituted for that fitted to the bicycle. 40 The reservoir, with its collars. fixing, tap and gasoline piping.
50 The levers - and the control cables which must be fitted, on the handlebars. As it appears in fig. 3, the toothed wheel 7 is journaled by means of an ordinary bearing 15 and an oblique bearing 16.
The articulation axis 8 of the motor is fixed on the support 9 which forms, with the cap or collar 10, an articulated jaw 17. This jaw 9-10 has two arched bearing surfaces 9a and 1Orx which are applied to the mounting on the housing 18 of the crankset, these jaws also applying, by means of oscillating caps 19 and 20, to the two tubes 21 of the bridge of the rear fork.
In this embodiment, the motor has a projection 22 provided with an oblong slot 23, in which the shaft 17 is engaged. On a projection 24 of the motor is articulated a pawl 25 which can be moved, as indicated in features. mixed, by a cable 26 leading to a handle or lever placed on the gui don.
By action on this handle, the cable 26 is moved in the direction of arrow F, which initially causes the pawl 25 to tilt in the direction of arrow f, the subsequent action of the cable causing the assembly to be lifted. of the motor in order to release the pinion 3 from: the internal teeth 2.
To achieve the mechanical connection previously removed, the cable 26 is released, which causes, on the one hand, the lowering of the motor and, on the other hand, the return of the pawl 25 to its position indicated in solid lines, the . light 23 being. of sufficient length to allow these movements.
The adjustment of the low position of the motor is carried out by acting on a screw 27 provided with a counter nut 28. The adjustment of the screw 27 must be accompanied by the adjustment of the screw 29 constituting a stop for the pawl 25.
The engine adjustment and lifting devices are given here by way of example only.
In another embodiment, the motor can be mounted rigidly on the frame of the bicycle. In this case, it is necessary to provide, between the input shaft of the reduction gear and the chain sprocket mounted freewheel, a movement selector device.
One embodiment of this device is more especially shown in FIG. 6. In this example, the output pinion 3 of the reducer is constantly required with an internal toothing 30 of a crown 31 housed practically inside the chain pinion 1. The crown 31 is mounted on the hub. of this pinion 1, by means of a movement selector such as a freewheel 32.
To allow the positive connection between the pinions 1 and 31, in order to ensure in particular the starting of the engine, there is provided a clutch finger 33 mounted in a sliding manner in the pinion 1 jet which can be engaged. dan :, a corresponding perforation or slot 34 formed in the pinion 31.
