Briquet pyrophorique.
Pyrophoric lighter. The present invention relates to a pyrophoric lighter, which is characterized in that it comprises a removable flintlock device adapting to the body of the lighter in an instantly detachable manner &, this body and which comprises a part carrying a case containing and guiding the stone, a spring for urging this stone towards its position of cooperation with a grinding wheel, and means for rendering this spring inoperative on the stone at will.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the bri quet according to the invention.
'ii. 1 is a side view of the lighter with the cover open and part of it shown partially cut away.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view partially sectioned along II of FIG. 1.
Fig. S is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of the second embodiment.
The pyrophoric lighter shown com takes a body 1 having a hinged cover 2 urged by a spring 3 towards one or the other of its two extreme positions, stable opening and closing thanks to the cooperation of this spring with a block 4 integral with the inside of the cover.
This lighter has an operating wheel 5 visible on part of the length of one of the large ridges of the lighter body, as is well known. This wheel is integral with a shaft 6, the upper part 7 of which protrudes above a part 8 of the body of the lighter forming a bearing for this shaft. This upper part has a hexagon and ends at its free end with a cylindrical portion 9.
The hexagon is intended to cooperate with a cylindrical grinding wheel 10 to produce the rotation of the latter when the wheel is rotated 5. The grinding wheel 10 is simply threaded onto the upper part 7 of the shaft. 6 and, thanks to the hexagon that this part presents, it is angularly fixed with respect to this shaft.
The lighter shown comprises a removable stone holder device which fits on the body 1 of the lighter and which comprises a metal part 11 having the general shape of a bracket having between its two branches 12 and 13 a tubular case 14 containing and mistletoe. before the stone (or pyrophoric element) 15, intended to cooperate with the grinding wheel 10 to produce the ignition of a wick 16. This case 14 also contains a compression spring 17 urging this stone 15 towards its cooperative position with the grinding wheel 10.
The spring 17 does not act directly on the stone 15, but on a metal piston 18 disposed in the tubular case 14, between the spring 17 and the stone 15. This piston 18 is integral with an annular member 19 mounted around it. 14, thanks to two fingers 20 connecting this piston to this member 19 through two helical slots. 2.1 made in the tubular case 14. It is easily understood that, under the action of the spring 17, the piston and the annular member 19 are urged towards the right end in FIGS. 1 and 3.
At the opposite end of this member 14, the slots 21 have a stopper 22! intended to retain the member 19 at the left end of the member 14 when brought there. To bring this member into this left-hand position in the drawing, it suffices to act with the finger on the member 19, tangentially, to make it rotate clockwise in FIG. 2. When the fingers 20 thus cooperate with the notch 22, the spring 17 is rendered inoperative on the stone 15.
The part 11 which the stone holder device comprises has a hollow rod 23 engaging in a cylindrical recess 24 of the body 1 of the lighter. A compression spring 25 is arranged inside this hollow rod 23 and bears on the bottom of the recess 24, to bias, as can be seen by examining FIG. 1, the part 11 to be lifted away from the body 1.
The part 11 is retained in the position shown in the drawing thanks to an elastic locking member constituted by a leaf spring 26 fixed at one -of its ends, at 27, on the body 1 and having at its opposite end a curved beak 28 cooperating with the upper 29 of the member 11, as can be seen in particular in FIG. 2.
In its upper region, the leaf spring 26 also has a part 30 projecting upwards and which is intended to be grasped with the finger to move the part 28 away from the part 11, so as to stop this part from cooperating. 28 and the surface 29. When the parts 28 and 30 are thus brought to the right, in FIG. 2, the part 11 is released which, under the action of the spring 25, rises relative to the body 1 and can be instantly removed from the body of the lighter.
The stone holder device thus removed as a whole by a single operation can be easily checked, cleaned, and the stone it contains can be easily replaced. It is even possible, if desired, to replace the stone holder device with an identical device, thus ensuring immediate repair of the lighter.
The branch 13 of the member 11 has a part 3,1 forming, on the one hand, a bearing for the cylindrical end 9 of the -driving shaft 6 of the grinding wheel and, on the other hand, a member holding this grinding wheel in place along this shaft. Indeed, when the part 71 is adapted to the lighter, as can be seen in the drawing, the part 31 covers the free end of the shaft 6 and the grinding wheel 10 is axially immobilized between this part 31 and the end of part 8 of the body 1.
When we detach the stone holder device from the body of the lighter as we have. seen previously, by acting with the finger on the end 3.0 of the spring 26, the part 31 leaves the end 9 of the shaft 6 and the grinding wheel can be immediately disengaged from this shaft by axial displacement, or to be cleaned, or to be replaced by an identical grinding wheel.
When the stone holder device is placed on the lighter, a ramp 32, presented by part 11, meets the free end of part 2.8 of spring 26 and forces it to move away from its. active position as part 11 approaches the position indicated in the drawing. When this position is reached, part 28 of spring 26 passes over the. surface 29 and comes, occupy the position shown for which the stone holder device is locked in place on the lighter.
It is therefore sufficient, to put the stone holder device in place, to thread its part 23 into the recess 24 by bringing the part 31 opposite the end of the shaft 6 and to exert a finger pressure. to release the spring 25,, until the device is in place, its locking then being automatically ensured by the spring 26.
The lighter described has the great advantage that all the organs likely to require cleaning or an overhaul can be instantly extracted from the body of the lighter without it being necessary to use any tool. It has the additional advantage that its different components can be interchanged immediately. In addition, the stone-holder device being extracted from a block, the user does not run the risk of losing parts when removing it.
In the lighter according to fig. 4, 11 shows the metal part having the two branches 12 and 13. The wheel 19 extends in this case over the entire length of the space between. These two branches. It is mounted to rotate on a cylindrical case 33, engaged in a hole 34 of the branch 12 and screwed at 34 'in the branch 13. Inside the case 33 @, there is placed a hollow piston 35 on a part of its length.
A res comes out of compression 36 bearing, on the one hand, on the bottom 37 of the case 33, and, on the other hand, inside the piston 35, as seen in the drawing, urges this last to the right in fig. 4, to apply the stone 15 on the grinding wheel 10. The piston 35 is integral with a radial finger 38 projecting externally to cooperate with a helical groove 39 provided in the internal surface of the wheel 19.
This helical groove 39 ends at the left end in FIG. 4 by a circular portion 40, the function of which will be indicated below. To reach the groove 3, 9, 40, the radial finger 38 passes through a recti-line longitudinal slot 41 of the case 33.
The operation of this lighter is as follows: When the wheel 1'9 @ is turned by hand, the finger 38 - which is prevented from rotating thanks to the presence of the groove 41, himself; moves parallel to the axis of the wheel due to its cooperation with the helical groove 39. When this finger is brought to the left end of this groove 39, it enters the circular part 40 and, therefore, the action of the spring 36 does not cause the piston 35 to return to the right, when the wheel is abandoned to itself. The part 11 can then be extracted without inconvenience from the body of the lighter in order to access the stone 15 and replace the latter.
A slight angular displacement of the -molette with the finger makes it possible to bring back the finger 38 in cooperation with the helical groove 35 and, from this moment, it suffices to leave the wheel to itself so that the spring 36 again produces the application of stone 1 against the grinding wheel 10.
The hook serving to retain the part 11 on the body of the lighter is indicated at 28 and the spring facilitating the detachment of the part 11 from this body. This spring acts in this case on a small piston 42 pressing on the bottom of the recess 24.
