huée .dans sa. partie cen trale, la profondeur de la -gouttière et donc la hauteur de l'amas étant telles que la tempéra ture de cette zone atteibne la température né eessaire à, la distillation complète du combusti- ble, et l'air étant injecté en excès, de manière à permettre la combustion complète dan;
Fireplace-boiler. There are various types of firebox in which the fuel is fed continuously on a grate on which it is gasified. For this purpose, fresh air is injected into the fuel through openings in the grid.
These fireplaces, however, are not entirely satisfactory; in particular, it is very difficult to obtain a complete and regular gasification of the fuel, - especially when the heating power of the boiler must be regulated in order to obtain a constant temperature of the water, or a constant pressure of steam.
Certain manufacturers have improved the operation of these hearth-boilers by placing a heat-insulated wall opposite the grate, thanks to the radiation from which the temperature of the hearth could be kept at a greater value. These fireplaces-boilers are, on the one hand, of difficult construction and, on the other hand, do not allow the manufacture of all types of boilers required by industries for the production of hot water and of va scare. .
The present invention relates to a furnace-boiler, which eliminates the drawbacks mentioned by the fact that it comprises a combustion chamber constituted by a hollow body with a horizontal axis, having two end walls. one is crossed by an evacuation channel opening into the upper zone of the combustion chamber, this hollow body having, in its lower part, a gutter whose axis is arranged along a generatrix of the internal wall of this body,
.this gutter opening into the combustion chamber and being intended to allow the formation of a mass of fuel inside and in the lower zone of .the combustion chamber, 'air formed in the side walls of the gutter and connected by a pipe to a blower making it possible to inject, into this heap of fuel, the air necessary for its distillation and for the combustion of the distillation gases, this heap of co-fuel promoting the creation of a high temperature zone:
hoot .in his. central part, the depth of the gutter and therefore the height of the pile being such that the temperature of this zone reaches the temperature necessary for the complete distillation of the fuel, and the air being injected in excess , so as to allow complete combustion dan;
the combustion chamber, before their evacuation, of the distillation gases being released therein, The appended drawing shows, by way of example and diagrammatically, one embodiment of the furnace-boiler which is the subject of invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross section, following. line I-1 of the fi- ,. ?.
The, fig. 2 is a lon-ituditialo section following the. line II-II of fig. 1.
The furnace-boiler shown is intended for the production of high pressure steam and for supplying the furnace with coal dust or braisettes. As these fuels do not form ash, no ashtray is necessary. The furnace-boiler comprises a cylindrical hollow body 1 with a circular section and a horizontal axis. In the thickness of the walls are. furnished water rooms connected to. a circuit. heating via pipes 16 and 17.
The front end wall of this body or front face of the furnace-boiler is formed by a hollow pa king provided with a hearth door 3 comprising a fire screen 4. The interior space of this wall is in communication. with the other water chambers of the body 1.
The rear end wall of the body 1 is crossed by a channel for evacuatioit 1 5 of the burnt gases opening directly into the combustion space? above the horizontal median plane. This wall is also hollow like the other walls of the body 1 and the chambers formed in its thickness are connected with the water circuit.
A hopper 18, intended to receive a reserve of fuel, is fixed on the body 1. Corridors 21, approximately of width equal to the. Lonpieur the interior wall of the hearth, pass through the walls of the cylinder approximately at the height of its horizontal diametral plane and connect the interior space of the body 1 to the interior space of the hopper 18.
The fuel flow rate is regulated by means of registers 29. The passage cross section of these registers is determined for the largest dimension of the calibrated fuel grains that it is possible to use. A shutter sector 2'2, with an adjustable position with respect to this register 29 ,, makes it possible to choose and fix the section of the free passage of this register according to the calibration of the fuel used.
The inner side walls located below the horizontal diametral plane constitute an inclined grid 10 in which openings 10-a are formed which are connected, by pipes 9 and 7, to a blower (not shown). These pipes are placed in the side water chambers so that the air passing through them is heated before being injected into the fuel.
In the lower median part of the body 1, on either side of said vertical median plane and at the foot of the grids, a vacuum is left which constitutes a gutter whose axis is arranged along a generatrix of the internal pa king. This gutter opens into the de combustion chamber and is intended: to allow the creation of a pile 20 of fuel. This gutter presents. in the lower zone of its side walls, openings 111b connected to the pipes' 9.
A pressurized air distribution chamber 6 is arranged on the rear wall. This chamber 6 is supplied with pressurized air by a blower (not shown), connected at the end of a pipe 5, and gives access to two pipes 7 by or vertures each comprising a valve of r # é- 0 0.
age 8. Finally, a control valve 7a allows the flow rate of an orifice 7b to be adjusted directly to the outside.
The operation of the furnace-boiler shown and described is as follows: Lia, hopper 18 being loaded with fuel in the form of grains, preferably ca released. this fuel flows through the corridors 21 and slides on the inclined internal walls of the fireplace. These walls each constitute an inclined grid provided with openings for the admission of the air necessary for the gasification of the fuel and for the complete combustion in the combustion chamber 2 of the products of the distillation.
As soon as the fuel arrives near the uppermost row of openings 10a, it begins to be gasified. In this area of the grate, the fuel layer being low, only the volatile distillation gases escape and are burned in the combustion chamber 2. As the fuel reaches lower regions of the combustion chamber. grid, the thickness of the fuel layer being greater, the temperature of the latter increases. It follows that as the fuel descends along the grate, higher temperature and therefore less volatile distillation products are released and are burned in combustion chamber 2.
Finally, when the fuel reaches the bottom of the grid, it forms in the gutter created between the two grids a pile 20 of fuel, in which the temperature reaches a maximum. The gasification of this cluster is activated by the air injected through the openings 10b. The temperature prevailing in this cluster is obviously a function of the thickness of the fuel layer. To obtain the complete distillation and gasification of the fuel, it is therefore sufficient to increase the temperature of this cluster 20 by increasing its thickness.
To do this, it suffices to let a greater quantity of fuel flow over the grids, by opening the registers 29 until the temperature inside this cluster is sufficient to distill the less volatile products.
The oxygen in the air, injected through openings 1% and 10b, which has not been used for gasification of the fuel, mixes in chamber 2 with the distillation gases and allows their complete combustion in this chamber. .
The burnt gases escape through the discharge nozzle 15. It can therefore be seen that, thanks to the gutter, it is always possible, whatever the fuel used, and the heating power required, to obtain a distillation. and complete gasification of the fuel, as well as complete combustion of the gases produced in chamber 2.
The opening of the adjustment valves 8 and 7a determines the quantity of air injected through the openings 10a and 10b, the blower still operating at its normal flow rate.
Ultimately, to modify the heating power of the boiler, it suffices to modify simultaneously the position of the valves 8 and 7a and of the registers 29.
The great advantage of the furnace-boiler shown is to constitute a high-pressure boiler, heated by means of: a gasification-fuel furnace.
It is obvious that other forms of execution can be provided depending on the operating conditions and heating power required. In particular, the gutter can have a rectangular section as shown - or any other desired shape.
For small heating powers, -on can provide only an inclined grid disposed on one of the lateral sides of the gutter.
We could also place in the bottom of the gutter hollow bars with water circulation. These can be connected either to the water chambers or to an independent heating circuit.
It is obvious that the fireplace-boiler described can also be used for the production of hot water, for example, the water chambers being able, in this case, to be connected to the heating circuit.
The section of the body 1 can be other than circular. .
